  • Patent number: 5305706
Abstract: A page number indicating bookmarker capable of being selectively attached to a planar surface in a book which enables a reader to record a desired page number. The page number indicating bookmarker includes plurality of digit indicators which may be selectively attached in a side-by-side manner to any planar surface in the book. Each digit indicator is manipulated to record one digit of the desired page number. Each digit indicator includes an elongated body with a set of digits 0 to 9 aligned longitudinally on the top surface thereof. A collar with a central cutout is attached to the elongated body which slides over the elongated body. The central cutout enables the user to view a digit printed on the top surfaced of the elongated body disposed directly below the collar. In another embodiment of the invention, a plurality of digit indicators are used in combination with one topic indicator which enables a user to record the page number of important topics or subjects found in the book.

  • Patent number: 4793278
Abstract: A travel distance indicator having an elongated distance scale and a slidable marker member straddling the distance scale. A front leg of the marker member has a front projection which slidably fits within a channel extending lengthwise across a front surface of the distance scale. The channel stops short of each end of the distance scale to prevent the marker member from being inadvertently slid off an end of the distance scale. Pictorial symbols are removably attached to the front surface of the distance scale in the order in which various stops and observations are represented by the symbols are to occur. A marker in the shape of a motor vehicle is fixed to the marker member to give an appearance of a vehicle traveling along a road strip that is part of the distance scale. The road strip includes graduations which divide the distance bar into equal portions to represent equal portions of miles of travel.

  • Patent number: 4762251
Abstract: A dual chamber Brix measuring cup which can be used to determine whether a fountain syrup dispenser is dispensing the proper ratio of water to syrup, referred to a a Brix measurement. The cup is basically two abutting cylindrical chambers, one to receive water dispensed from the nozzle and the other adapted to receive the syrup by means of a diverter tube. The cross sectional areas of the water and syrup chambers are in the ratio of the ideal water to syrup ratio in the dispensed product. In a first embodiment, a series of calibrated marks are provided on each of the two chambers, such that the mismatch of column heights can be translated into a reading of acceptability, for example if the syrup and water heights are within two lines of each other, that enable a tolerance band of acceptable mismatches to be easily seen visually. In a second embodiment, a slider element is provided which is vertically slideable on the syrup chamber.

  • Patent number: 4741701
Abstract: A behavior monitoring and status reporting ("feedback") device, and the method of its use, are disclosed. The device gives visual feedback to a person concerning his or her behavior, along a continuous or discrete interval scale. The user moves an indicator to show the current status of the monitored person's behavior as the person completes each of a series of objectives or satisfies other criteria to justify the receipt of rewards or penalties. The apparatus is intended for use in two primary applications, among others. In the first application, a series of objectives to be achieved by the person being monitored is defined by the user of the device, and posted on a removable panel. The indicator is then moved to the position opposite each objective as the objective is achieved. After the last objective is achieved, a reward is given.

  • Patent number: 4412447
Abstract: An inverted tube closely fits a supporting cup and contains a column of water. A substantially annular or ring-like space is formed between the cup and the tube. Water is fed to the annular space through a lateral opening in the tube, the upper edge of the opening being located just below the level of the cup rim. As water evaporates from the exposed ring of water, it is replaced by the inverted column, air being admitted through the tube opening. Evaporation and transpiration causes reduction of the water level thus to indicate the amount of moisture loss from the surrounding soil.
