  • Patent number: 10422039
Abstract: Systems and methods for nickel plating include providing a tank that retains a plating bath into which a substrate is submerged, and creating a horizontal flow of processing solution in the plating bath to assist in carrying contaminants out of the plating bath. A sparger box may be positioned in the tank to deliver the processing solution into the plating bath in a horizontal direction. The processing solution, which carries the contaminants, may exit the plating bath through a plate member that includes a plurality of orifices and is also positioned in the tank. The orifices may have a variable opening size to help control outflow of the processing solution.

  • Patent number: 6926772
Abstract: Continuous void-free uniform coatings are formed on filamentous articles by applying a voided or otherwise substantially uneven coating to at least some of the exposed portion of a filamentous article or to a rotating substrate. The filamentous article or substrate is passed through an improvement station containing a plurality of coating-wetted rolls that contact and re-contact the wet coating at different positions along the length of the filamentous article or rotating substrate, wherein the periods of the rolls improve the uniformity of the coating. For coatings applied to a rotating substrate, the uniform wet coating is transferred to the filamentous article. The final coating can be very thin, very uniform and completely or substantially void-free. The coating improvement can be quickly and easily obtained using low cost equipment.

  • Patent number: 6911085
Abstract: Doctor blade dosing systems for devices used for coating material webs, particularly paper or paperboard webs, exist that have a doctor blade rod, which serves as a dosing element while being held inside a slot of a doctor blade bed that, in turn, is mounted in a support that can be fastened inside the frame of the system. According to the disclosure, the doctor blade rod has a diameter of less than 25 mm. The doctor blade bed is inserted in removable manner into a slot of the support situated on the face thereof. The ratio of the cross-sectional area (measured in mm2) of the doctor blade to the diameter (measured in mm) of the doctor blade rod is less than 60 mm, preferably less than 30 mm. The support is made of a plastic material and is shaped like a clamp having at least one rearward extending clamp limb and one joint location, whereby the holding slot that accommodates the doctor blade bed forms the clamp mouth.

Abstract: A method for rubbing alignment films and an apparatus for processing the same are introduced. The method includes a step of providing a glass substrate coated by an alignment film and further having a visible region and an invisible region, a step of moving the glass substrate along a predetermined direction, and a step of rubbing the alignment film by an inversed roller with cloth on a surface thereof along an in-stream direction the same as the predetermined direction while the glass substrate is moving. By reverse rolling upon the alignment film, chips rubbed off the alignment film can be made not to hard contact with the alignment film on the visible region which has been rubbed by the cloth.

Abstract: Disclosed herein is a method of creating a selectively formed lenticular image. The method comprises: providing a substrate having a printed interlaced image portion thereon; providing a coating applicator having a selectively-located coating transfer area that substantially conforms to the interlaced image portion on the substrate; applying to the interlaced image portion on the substrate, using the selectively-located coating transfer area, a coating layer that conforms to the interlaced image portion to form a coated interlaced image; curing the coated interlaced image to create a cured coated interlaced image; and forming a lenticular pattern in the cured coated interlaced image to create a selectively formed lenticular image. Adjusting the selectively formed lenticular images occurs by adjusting the selectively located transfer areas on the coating applicator. Also disclosed is a system for making a selectively formed lenticular image.

  • Patent number: 6770235
Abstract: A method for re-shaping portions of a coating applied to the surface of a component using a tool including a collet having a plurality of flexible arms with a wheel rotatably supported on each of the flexable arms, a nut and a sleeve. The tool is initially installed by disposing the collet caxially about the component. Then, the sleeve is disposed co-axially about the collet. Next, the nut is threaded onto a threaded first end of the collet. As the nut is threaded onto the collet, it engages and moves the sleeve axially toward the arms of the collet thereby causing the arms to be compressed radially inwardly such that outer circumferential surfaces of the wheels engage and re-shape the coating on the outer surface of the component. The tool, as a whole, can then be moved axially back and forth along the surface of the component to re-shape the entire length of the coating thereon.
