  • Patent number: 4169425
Abstract: Apparatus for removing the surplus of coating composition at the exposed side of a running paper web has a stationary support for a deformable doctor blade the edge portion or one side of which extends transversely of the path for and contacts the exposed side of the running web, a pivotable or reciprocable rigid beam which is mounted on the support and is urged toward the blade by one or more inflated flexible hoses, and a profile adjusting unit which is mounted on the beam and can be adjusted to deform selected portions of the blade in dependency on the desired profile of the exposed side of the web. The beam compensates for eventual variations of the bias of the hose, as considered transversely of the path. The pressure of fluid which is confined in the hose can be regulated in dependency on deviations of measured weight of coating composition from a desired weight.

  • Patent number: 4164597
Abstract: Method and apparatus for mixing particulate materials, such as sand, gravel, and cement to form a concrete mix, and for mixing water with the concrete mix to form concrete, and for applying the concrete to a structure such as a pipe, wherein a controlled amount of aggregate is placed on a moving belt and leveled to further control its amount, and then a controlled amount of cement is placed upon the leveled aggregate and leveled to further control its amount, and then the materials on the belt are mixed by spiked rollers dipping into the mixture, water being added to form the concrete, and the concrete being impelled against the object by being passed between high speed rollers.

  • Patent number: 4133917
Abstract: A method and apparatus for coating at least one face of a moving web, such as a paper web, in which the web is fed longitudinally at a speed in excess of 400 meters per minute between a movable support and a blade forming, with the movable support, a nip. The blade has a bevel at the point of contact with the web, and an excess of coating material is applied at one side of the web in the nip, the coating material having a dryness content exceeding 60% and/or a viscosity exceeding 1500 cp. The angle of the blade is controlled so that it extends at most 20.degree. to the web and the bevel width, as measured in the direction of movement of the web, is at most 0.05 centimeters. Preferably, the blades are urged against the web with a force not exceeding 2 kgf per centimeter width of web.

  • Patent number: 4114228
Abstract: This invention relates to a doctor blade assembly which is an improvement of the assembly as taught in U.S. Pat. No. 3,859,690, as well as to an improved pressure finger which can be used in the assembly. The improved finger includes a bearing part on which the finger can be pivotably mounted. Extending forwardly of the bearing part are two spaced apart jaws having inner facing surfaces which define, between them, mounting slots for the doctor blade. The inner surfaces comprise a plurality of parallel, spaced, transverse grooves, with respective ones of the grooves in one surface being aligned with respective ones of the grooves in the other surfaces. The aligned grooves form vertical sets of grooves, and all fingers on the assembly are disposed so that respective sets of one finger are aligned with respective sets in all other fingers to define a plurality of transverse channels or passages.

  • Patent number: 4111155
Abstract: Apparatus for the construction of cathodes from pasty materials and expended metal substrates. A continuous roll of conductive metallic mesh is fed past a coating device and coated on one side. Simultaneously the coated metallic mesh is supported by an absorbent felt belt which is pressed against the mesh and removes excess liquids. After being coated on one side the mesh is turned over and further coated in a similar manner.

  • Patent number: 4068619
Abstract: An assembly for applying liquid material, for example, liquid resin, to elongated material, for example glass fiber strands, is disclosed herein. This assembly includes means for maintaining a supply of the liquid resin in a container and transferring some of it from the container to a stationary, preferably flat, surface which is positioned out of direct contact with the resin supply. The glass fiber strands are moved over the stationary surface and through the liquid resin thereon.

  • Patent number: 4052521
Abstract: A method of coating a fabric material and calendering the material while longitudinally and transversely tensioning the material, the coating being synthetic and being applied to one side of the material, and being heated in a curing oven. Then applying more synthetic material of a similar type to the calendered and heated material and then passing it through another oven and calendering it again before the tensioning is relaxed.

  • Patent number: 3996889
Abstract: An apparatus is provided for coating web-form substrates, the apparatus consisting of a coating roller and of a coating block part of which is pivotal. The thickness of the layer coated on the substrate is determined by the interval between the coating block and the coating roller. In order to adjust this interval, to the precise value needed replaceable precision-gauge blocks corresponding in length to the required production conditions are arranged between the fixed part and the pivotal part of the coating block.
