Recirculation Or Nonradiant Heating Of Supply Of Particulate Material Patents (Class 118/312)
  • Patent number: 5690995
Abstract: A spray booth for use in the spray coating of articles with coating powder. The spray booth forms a coating space which at a bottom is bounded by powder collection means. The powder collection means is divided into an inner collection means and a surrounding outer collection means for the separate collection of surplus powder and the separate removal of the entire surplus powder from the booth. The outer collection means collects surplus coating powder dropping off the inside surfaces of the booth walls. Since this powder may be contaminated with different color or different types of powder from previous spraying operations, it is discarded as waste. The inner collection means collects pure surplus powder which has not touched the booth wall surfaces. This pure surplus powder is recycled.

  • Patent number: 5664489
Abstract: A food breading apparatus for breading food components with a breading mixture includes a breading drum rotatable about its longitudinal axis wherein the longitudinal axis is inclined from horizontal. The drum includes an inlet opening located in an upper end, an outlet opening located in a lower end, and a plurality of openings located proximal to the lower end of a sidewall. The openings are sized to allow surplus breading mixture and lumps of breading mixture to pass therethrough but retain the breaded food product in the rotating breading drum. An inlet conveyor provides food components to be breaded to the inlet opening of the breading drum. A recirculating breading mixture conveyor provides the breading mixture to the inlet opening. A takeout conveyor moves the breaded food components from the outlet opening of the breading drum. A lump removal conveyor is positioned below the plurality of openings in the sidewall of the breading drum.

  • Patent number: 5511510
Abstract: An apparatus and method for applying a resin coating to a plurality of discrete portions of a fastener, such as both internal and external threads. A conveyor supports a fastener. The fastener is first transported past a heater and then past a first powdered resin spray assembly. Powdered resin, supplied to the first spray assembly by a resin reservoir, is used to generate a first air-borne powdered resin stream which coats one set of threads with resin when the fastener traverses the resin stream. The conveyor also transports a second resin spray assembly through the first air-borne powdered resin stream. The second spray assembly uses a resin receiver to aspirate the air-borne resin. The resin is then used to generate a second powdered resin stream which coats the other set of fastener threads.

Abstract: An apparatus and method for utilizing and controlling finer particles in a powder coating system returns the finer particles to the spraying apparatus to be sprayed on parts by the system. Finer particles are continuously removed from the system by application onto parts, and the accumulation of fines is thereby prevented. The finer particles may be sprayed through specially adapted spray guns, which also permits the utilization of the special advantages of spraying fine powder materials. By removing fine powder particles from the system before they build up, the present invention improves the powder coating operation in various respects.

Abstract: An apparatus and method for applying particulate powder material to a moving fibrous substrate includes a volumetric dry material feeder for forming a continuous stream of particulate powder material. The continuous stream is then transmitted through a nozzle and exits at an outlet thereof. The nozzle is movable between a first and second position by a motion control. The motion control includes an adjustable differential gear box and an encoder for synchronizing the dispensing of powder at a predetermined location of the substrate. A flow separator is disposed beyond the outlet of the nozzle and intermediate of the first and second positions. In operation, the motion input drives the nozzle to oscillate between the first and second positions at a variable speed over each product cycle. A hopper is disposed above the food product conveyance path in which an amount of a coating material is provided to generate a falling curtain of bread crumbs or the like to cover the top and sides of food product pieces passing along the food product conveyance path. The machine also preferably includes a circular drum type conveyor which is rotatably supported along the elongated frame adjacent the hopper and includes a plurality of pockets formed therein which open into the interior of the machine and the hopper. Conveyors are provided in both the elongated frame and hopper to distribute coating material from the frame enclosure to the circular conveyor which will in turn distribute coating material to the hopper to generate the upper layer of breading material.

The surface of the substrate is exposed to high intensity laser radiation to melt a spot of the surface. Particles of a material such as WC are injected into the melt.In order to enhance the percentage of particles in the surface, thus increasing the wear resistance, there is a forced reflection of stray particles back toward the melted spot.Further a fixture for holding the substrate, comprising the essential reflection surfaces for achieving the desired back reflection is described as well as a device for carrying out the method.

  • Patent number: 4933211
Abstract: The invention relates to coating a heated substrate, particularly glass, by a process according to which a distribution nozzle ending in a slot, sprays a gas stream mixed with a pulverulent or powder product, which decomposes in heat, onto a heated substrate for contact therewith to form a thin coating layer thereupon. The coating zone in the vicinity of the main stream of gas-entrained powder coming from the nozzle is cooled to prevent premature decomposition and to directly remove pulverulent products not immediately deposited upon the substrate. Also, a device for carrying out the novel process is disclosed herein. The invention makes it possible to produce a coated glass substrate which is essentially free of the problem of coating fogging.

Abstract: A booth for applying a powdered coating to the surfaces of workpieces in which a clean gas zone is joined to the coating zone via the rear wall, which is connected to an extractor fan. Located in a recess of the rear wall is a frame-like structure, the outer frame of which is split up into individual areas by means of frame cross-members each area receiving a filter element, which is housed in an interchangeable cassette, and consisting of a continuous zig-zag shaped or wave-shaped surface-membrane filter strip. Each area of the frame is covered in a leak-proof manner by a protective hood in hood space in an oblique manner towards the coating zone and detach the excess powder attached to the membrane applied thereon, which is diverted through a slat-type screen down to the floor of the booth and into a powder container. Thorough cleaning can be effected by a second cleaning device arranged in the coating zone or after removal of an interchangeable cassette from the booth.

Abstract: The invention relates to the process and apparatus coating of a substrate, particularly a glass ribbon, with a pulverulent product. The invention proposes the implementation of a distribution nozzle (10, 24) that sprays the pulverulent product in suspension in a gas, and a suction device (14) for evacuating the resultant waste of the decomposition of the pulverulent product from a coating zone (Z). The invention concerns the formation of at least one to extend the residence time of the pulverulent product in the coating zone to facilitate its deposit on the substrate. The invention also concerns the production of substrates, particularly glazings, coated with metal oxides.

  • Patent number: 4816297
Abstract: A method of powder coating the inside of tubular goods, such as oilfield pipe and the like, by connecting one end of the pipe to a means for producing a flow of compressible gases therethrough. The other end of the pipe is open to atmospheric pressure. A valve means is connected for controlling the flow of air through the container which holds a single charge of plastic powder. The charge of powdered plastic is isolated upstream of the pipe inlet. The charge is of sufficient size to coat the entire inside peripheral wall surface of the pipe with a substantial uniform coating of plastic. The pipe is heated above the softening temperature of the plastic and axially rotated, so that when the valve is opened, air flows through the container, into the pipe, and establishes a pressure gradient across the entire length of the pipe. This action causes the captured charge of plastic to form a pocket of dispersed plastic particles which is forced to flow through the pipe by the air flow.
