  • Patent number: 6027567
Abstract: In a flow coater for applying coating liquid to a plate member such as a printed board by a curtain flow method, a heat exchanger unit of a temperature controller is arranged in a collection tray which is arranged below a coating liquid supplying head across a conveyance path for the plate member. This heat exchanger unit has a coil-shaped structure. The coating liquid is caused to flow down curtainly from the head to come in contact with the heat exchanger unit in which the heat exchange is carried out. Since a small amount of coating liquid comes in contact with the heat exchanger unit, an excellent efficiency of the heat exchange can be obtained, and hence it is possible to cope speedily and accurately with temperature changes. In addition, since after the coating liquid has flowed down from the head, the coating liquid flows naturally down in the tray while contacting the heat exchanger unit, there is no need of providing a special drive apparatus therefor.

  • Patent number: 5997692
Abstract: A system for applying a suspension of uncooked starch particles in water to a web on a forming wire includes a source of such suspension and a source of dilution water, an application die positioned transversely of the web with an internal manifold opening into a downwardly opening die slot through which material flows from the manifold as a falling curtain onto the web. The die has a plurality of transversely spaced inlets leading into the manifold to define transversely spaced application zones across the web. The suspended starch and water are applied from the manifolds through control valves into the inlets by means of which the consistency or concentration of the starch may be varied at positions representing the application zones across the web to provide a desired strength profile to the dried web.

  • Patent number: 5985030
Abstract: A method of applying a starch sizing to a forming web on a paper machine, such as in the form of a curtain on a fourdrinier machine, employs a suspension of uncooked particulate starch and water which is applied, as a suspension, to the inlet of a downwardly opening die positioned over the forming web and applied at a consistency of between about 2 to 10% onto the surface of the web as a free falling curtain, the impact velocity of which is controlled to a rate sufficiently low to prevent distortion of the web on impact. Improved drainage is achieved by heating the suspension to a temperature less than about 150.degree., to prevent the cooking of the starched particles. The curtain may be applied to the web at fourdrinier table consistencies as low as about 2% and still obtain starch retention rates of about 80%.

The printed-circuit boards or multilayers (3) thus treated and made electrically conductive on the lateral surfaces of the drill-holes are then passed on for the metallization of the lateral surfaces of the drill-holes (FIG. 1).

  • Patent number: 5217536
Abstract: A composite plating apparatus includes a plating tank for receiving therein a composite plating solution containing water-insoluble particles or fibers and a reservoir disposed adjacent the plating tank through an overflow weir, preferably in a common housing, the plating solution flowing into the reservoir in an overflow manner. A pump is disposed within the reservoir having a suction port for drawing the solution in the reservoir and a discharge port for pumping the solution. A conduit connected to the pump discharge port extends therefrom over the bottom of the plating tank through the overflow weir and includes a plurality of orifices. The plating solution is circulated by causing the solution to flow over the weir from the plating tank to the reservoir, pumping the solution to the conduit, and injecting the solution into the tank through the orifices to uniformly agitate the solution.

Abstract: Methods, compositions and apparatus are provided for coating a substrate with a strongly adherent hydroxyapatite coating, which allows for ingrowth of natural bone and strong bonding between the coating and the substrate. The procedure provides for coating under conditions which form sticky particles which bind to the substrate to form a crystalline hydroxyapatite coating. The coating has particular application for prostheses, where porous areas of the prostheses are completely coated with a thin sturdy coating of hydroxyapatite. The apparatus includes a coating trough in which the substrates are present and the reactive components added. The medium is recirculated in an outer circuit through a distribution tank solution preparation tank and coating trough. Means are provided for maintaining temperature and pH. The substrates are maintained in a line normal to the flow in the trough and can be rotated to ensure even coating.
