  • Patent number: 10308010
Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for enhanced dryers for printing systems. One embodiment is an apparatus that includes a dryer for a continuous-forms printing system. The dryer includes heating elements located within an interior of the dryer that radiate infrared energy onto a web of printed media as the web travels through the interior, and an air knife that is interposed between the heating elements. The air knife includes a shell that directly absorbs infrared energy from the heating elements and also defines a passage for air to travel through the air knife onto the web. The shell directly absorbs infrared energy from each heating element that would otherwise overlap on the web with infrared energy from another heating element.

  • Patent number: 8962098
Abstract: The objective of the present invention is to provide an unexpected method of manufacturing a battery electrode and a coating die for use therein, both of which are capable of providing a high speed drying and of improving a peel strength between a collector and a compound. The manufacturing process S1 of manufacturing the battery electrode 1 includes the process of coating the compound 3 containing the electrode active material 4 and the binder 5 on the sheet collector 2 and the process of drying the compound 3 to bond the collector 2 and the compound 3, wherein in the coating process, a laser light is emitted to the interface between the compound 3 and the collector 2. Due to the above structure, regardless of the drying speed, the binder 5 contained in the compound 3 is crystallized at the interface with respect to the collector 2. As a result, the high speed drying is provided and the peel strength between the collector 2 and the compound 3 is improved.

Abstract: Plant for powder coating the surfaces of objects with polymeric powder having a melting and softening temperature below 100° C. The polymeric powder includes a polymer curable under the influence of electromagnetic radiation. Objects to be coated are prepared to retain powder charged with static electricity. The objects are then sprayed with powder charged with static electricity and thereafter heated to a surface temperature of about 100° C. thereby melting the powder retained on the surface by exposure to infrared radiation and heated air. The objects are radiated by electromagnetic radiation for curing of the powder over the surface of the objects.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for coating a moving web of paper or board from on sides with at least one coat layer. The coat is applied to the web by means of a film transfer coater (12) and next the web is passed to a dryer cylinder group (4) via an air-cushion cylinder (18) supported by a wire (14), whereby the web can run fully supported all the way from its entry to the coater up to the winder. The apparatus further comprises a belt calender (8) and a belt-supported winder (9), whereby the web is thus supported over its entire passage in the machinery from the unwinder or paper machine up to winding.

Abstract: The present invention relates to methods and apparatus for the controlled placement of a shear-thinnable polymer composition into a moving web. The controlled placement is preferably performed by applying the polymer composition onto a surface of a moving web, shear thinning the composition and placing it into the web, and curing the polymer composition. A preferred apparatus includes one or more process heads that has mounted thereto a rigid knife blade for engagement with the moving web. The knife blade is movable vertically and rotationally. The process head is also movable horizontally along the path of the moving web. A plurality of macro and micro tension zones are established and are monitored for controlling the apparatus and process.

Abstract: Sheets to be coated with water-based coating material, for example a primer and a low adhesion backsize, are supplied from a feeder (1), in end-to-end overlapping relationship, to a dual coater (3) in which the sheets are coated individually on both sides. A sheet inserter (2) is provided, upstream of the dual coater, to insert sheets from a second supply into the sheets from the feeder (1). The dual coated sheets are dried as individual sheets or as a pseudo-web of overlapped sheets. The sheets are then overlapped, unless previously overlapped, and the direction of overlap changed, if necessary, to provide the trailing edge of each sheet on top of the leading edge of each succeeding sheet. The overlapped sheets are conveyed through an adhesive transfer station (7) where stripes (236) of at least partially dried adhesive are coated onto the dual coated sheets from a transfer belt (71).
