  • Patent number: 5636593
Abstract: An apparatus and method are provided for partially automating the placement of litter bags in animal litter pans. The apparatus uses two pivoted arras over the tops of which the upper portion of a litter bag may be folded when the arms are extended upwardly. The arms are then pivoted downwardly to spread out the litter bag either in a litter pan or upon the base upon which the arms are pivoted. Thus the apparatus also provides a means for complete elimination of an animal litter pan. Litter may be placed within the litter bag either before it is folded over the pivot arms or after. It is preferred to use prepackaged litter containers and several prepackaged litter containers are disclosed which can be used with the particular apparatus or other apparatus including ordinary litter pans.

  • Patent number: 5359960
Abstract: The invention relates to a diagnostic system for testing animal urine and includes a device for the collection of the urine. The system uses granular particles which are nonabsorbent particles having sufficiently large diameter to provide sufficient interparticle spacing to permit free flow of urine from the particles to the collection region below. The base of the litter box can serve as the urine collector, but preferably, a moisture impermeable liner provides this function. In the use of the instant device for diagnostic purposes, the urine is allowed to pass through the grit, due to its non absorbency, into collection areas. Early evidence of many diseases can be detected, as well as the monitoring of ongoing treatment, through urine analysis. The grit can be used in combination with waffle type support inserts, plastic liners or a spacer member.

  • Patent number: 5337700
Abstract: A foldable, disposable, kitty liter container having an outside enclosure, a bottom disposable litter tray and a roof top. The outside enclosure fitting snugly over the bottom litter tray, and the bottom litter tray being disposable after several uses. The outside enclosure being made of a water resistant, and odor absorbing material, is re-useable for several bottom litter trays. The enclosure has four indentations, one in each of the four top corners. These indentations are pushed inward to form a support for the separate roof top pieces of the container. Also, four pointed corner structures, at the top of the enclosure provide scratching, and playing objects for the cat. The bottom litter tray contains a unique system of tabs, slots, and creases to fold and lock the tray in a folded position. The tabs are pre-formed, and the slots are pre-cut into the material. The tabs are used to be inserted into the slots to lock the bottom tray in the folded position.

  • Patent number: 5289800
Abstract: Minimizing or eliminating the amount of odor-laden air that leaves a cat litter box and circulates into the room is accomplished by the mixing of the cooler room air with the hotter air that rises from the animal's fecal matter to the top of the box and then out through a series of charcoal filters. This is achieved by having a dome cover (aesthetically or ornamentally designed to look like a bank) of approximately fourteen inches high, and twenty inches long by fifteen inches wide placed across the top of the litter box and/or removably fastened to same. The odor elimination or minimization starts with the cat's excretion of warm fecal matter in to the litter box or waste elimination system. As the warm, odor-laden air rises, it mixes in with the fresh cooler air entering into the dome cover from several (such as ten) designed slots on the outside of the dome cover. This diluted air automatically reduces odor by expanding the air flow to the top of the enclosure.

More specifically, the enclosure member comprises a support boot having floor ventilation and an access opening, a security sleeve, a service access door, and an enclosure body and roof. When assembled as an enclosure member, the seal is positioned around a mounting sleeve part of the support boot. The support boot is installed within a dwelling wall service opening, fitting matingly with the security sleeve which is secured from the interior; the combination of the two creating a service access area between the dwelling interior and the exteriorly disposed support boot. The enclosure body and roof are then releasably secured to the support boot and to one another; thereby, completing the enclosure member.
