Walled Receptacle; E.g., Litter Box, Etc., Containing Moisture Absorbent Material Patents (Class 119/165)
  • Patent number: 5249549
Abstract: A disposable litter container for pets, usually cats, includes a molded tray of water-absorbent paper material that does not lose appreciable structural strength upon absorption of limited quantities of water. The paper material preferably includes an appreciable wax content. The tray has a bottom wall formed integrally with side walls, enclosing a litter chamber, with the side walls extending upwardly from the bottom wall for a predetermined height greater than the litter chamber height. Lid retainers are molded into the side walls at the top of the chamber. A lid interfits with the lid retainers to seal the top of the litter chamber. There are complementary, interfitting supports on the lid and on the tray that adapt the lid to service as a base for the tray when the lid is removed. The lid can be replaced, when the litter is spent, to re-seal the container for disposal.

  • Patent number: 5184575
Abstract: The advantage of this toilet for cats relative to conventional models consists of the fact that the toilet automatically cleans itself after each use and is again automatically supplied with fresh cat litter.Annoying odors are extensively eliminated by that the used cat litter is immediately removed into a separately mounted, air tight waste container equipped with a replaceable bag, by a slide. This satisfies both the hygienic requirements of contemporary household pet maintenance and the cleanliness needs of cats. The probelm is resolved by that a slide is located in the cat toilet facility, which moves the used cat litter into an automatically opening and closing waste container and that subsequently fresh cat litter is distributed over the bottom by an automatic refill device. To prevent access to the toilet facility during the cleaning process, the inlet is closed by a sliding door.

  • Patent number: 5183009
Abstract: An apparatus and method are provided for partially automating the placement of litter bags in animal litter pans. The apparatus uses two pivoted arms over the tops of which the upper portion of a litter bag may be folded when the arms are extended upwardly. The arms are then pivoted downwardly to spread out the litter bag either in a litter pan or upon the base upon which the pivoted arms, which operate in a scissors action, are pivoted. Thus the apparatus also provides a means for complete elimination of an animal litter pan. Litter may be placed within the litter bag either before it is folded over the pivot arms or after. When the litter arrangement has been used by the animal to an extent such that it should be replaced, the pivot arms are extended upwardly and the bag is removed and secured at the top after which is can be disposed of in the normal manner.
