  • Patent number: 7334566
Abstract: The invention relates to an internal combustion engine comprising a manifold, from which an induction pipe leads to an intake of a cylinder of the internal combustion engine. A gas intake valve is located at the intake of the cylinder. A pulse charging valve is positioned upstream of the gas intake valve in the induction pipe, the latter being released or sealed depending on the selected position of the pulse charging valve. The internal combustion engine is also provided with a pressure sensor, which is located in the induction tract and detects an induction pipe pressure. The progression of the detected induction pipe pressure is compared to that of a reference induction pipe pressure, which characterizes a predetermined operating state of the pulse charging valve. A malfunction of the pulse charging valve is detected depending on said comparison, thus guaranteeing a reliable monitoring of the pulse charging valve.

  • Patent number: 7316385
Abstract: A lightweight, low cost throttle body and throttle valve placed in the body, both formed of resins, that resolve the problem of excessively large gap formation is disclosed. Circumferentially oriented filler contained in a resin forming a throttle valve compensates to make the radial linear expansion coefficient of the throttle valve substantially equal to that of a bore. Grooves are formed on concentric circles in the throttle valve to orient filler circumferentially. A throttle valve provided with circumferentially oriented filler can be formed by impregnating an aggregate formed by circumferentially arranging the filler with a resin and curing the resin. A rib is formed in a part near a throttle shaft to control molding shrinkage so that the roundness of the bore is small.

According to various exemplary embodiments of the present invention, the single shaft and one sensor are utilized to activate all control valves. Additionally, the present invention can also be used in in-line engines. Advantageously, the present invention utilizes one moving shaft and sensor to activate all control valves on both sides of the intake manifold without restricting air flow by locating the shaft in the middle of the manifold—lower housing. Further, the control valves are not attached with screws, thus eliminating a tolerance stack-up at assembly problem. The air induction sub-system can be manufactured with metals or plastic, or any combination thereof.

Abstract: A vortex generator is disclosed for flow of a fluid. The vortex generator includes a housing that includes a passage through which the fluid flows. The vortex generator also includes a valve that is movably coupled to the housing between a fully closed position and a fully open position for changing flow of the fluid in the passage. The valve includes an open portion that defines a main aperture for generating a vortex in the flow of the fluid. Also, the valve has an intermediate position between the fully closed position and the fully open position. The housing further includes a recessed portion such that the recessed portion of the housing and the valve cooperate to define a sub-aperture through which the fluid flows when the valve is positioned in the intermediate position. A method of manufacturing the vortex generator is also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 7243635
Abstract: The invention is intended to simplify a default mechanism of a throttle valve opening and closing device for the purpose of improving mountability of the device to a vehicle. When a motor generate no driving forces, a throttle valve is held in a position (1) by a return spring. In this position, gaps are formed between the throttle valve and a wall surface of an intake passage. Spherical recesses are formed in parts of the wall surface of the intake passage. In a position (2) where the throttle valve is opposed to the spherical recesses, the gaps are minimized in an operating range of the throttle valve.

Abstract: An air passage 2 is provided with an air passage groove 5 that supplies a required volume of air to the side downstream from the fully closed position of a valve body for control purposes. Further, a taper is formed in such a way that a predetermined volume of air can be supplied, even if positional variations have occurred to the valve body. This arrangement allows the volume of air required for the traveling of a car to be supplied, without increasing the number of parts, even if the valve body 3 has stuck downstream from the controlled area. This arrangement also permits a stable supply of air flow at the idle position of the valve body.

  • Patent number: 7225792
Abstract: A valve device for an internal combustion engine is provided with two flange portions, each of which is arranged at the outer periphery of a valve and has a larger outer diameter than a shaft. Annular valve-side end surfaces of the flange portions obstruct water flowing toward bearings and the inner surface of a cylindrical portion of a house along the surface of the shaft. Thus, water can be restricted from flowing into annular gaps between the shaft and the housing and annular gaps between the shaft and bearing members. Accordingly, water is not frozen in the annular gaps, thus restricting the shaft and the valve from freezing/sticking.

Abstract: A bearing support device includes a rotor, a bearing member, and a bearing holding member. The rotor rotates about a rotation center axis. The bearing member rotatably supports the rotor within a bearing hole passing through the bearing member. The bearing holding member holds the bearing member in a secure manner within a fitting hole that passes through the bearing holding member along the center axis of the rotor via an engagement force produced by tightly fitting the bearing member. The rotor and bearing member are made of a resin. An engagement section is provided for tightly fitting the bearing member into the fitting hole relative to the bearing hole to enable an engagement force produced by the tight fitting to act in a direction that does not affect an inner diameter dimension of the bearing hole.

Abstract: A control system for a plant is provided. This control system can control the plant more stably, when the model parameters of the controlled object model which are obtained by modeling the plant, which is a controlled object, are identified and the sliding mode control is performed using the identified model parameters. The model parameter identifier (22) calculates a model parameter vector (?) by adding an updating vector (d?) to a reference vector (?base) of the model parameter. The updating vector (d?) is corrected by multiplying a past value of at least one element of the updating vector by a predetermined value which is greater than “0” and less than “1”. The model parameter vector (?) is calculated by adding the corrected updating vector (d?) to the reference vector (?base).

  • Patent number: 7207314
Abstract: An engine electronic control unit is inserted through a through hole provided in an intake pipe and mounted in an intake air passage in a direction substantially perpendicularly with respect to a plane of the intake pipe forming the intake air passage. This unit is then secured to the intake pipe using a fixing flange provided at a connector portion. A fixing rail is protruded inside the intake pipe and leading edges of a metal base and a metal cover of the unit are inserted into this rail, thereby securing in position an end opposite to a side of the connector portion of the unit. This realizes an engine electronic control unit offering an outstanding heat radiation performance and vibration resistance, without having to provide special heat radiating parts or without involving an increase in an intake air resistance within the intake air passage. By using such an engine electronic control unit, it is possible to provide a low-cost, compact engine air intake system.

  • Patent number: 7201142
Abstract: A tumble control valve for an intake manifold of an engine which eliminates or substantially reduces air leakage between the bottom and sides of the valve blade through a selected rotational segment of the blade as it moves from the closed position toward the open position. The sealed area is maintained by contouring the inner cavity wall to track the arc defined by the bottom edge of the rotating blade. In other embodiments, a flexible flange or wedge-shaped element is attached to the blade to engage the inner cavity wall through the selected rotational segment. In another aspect of the invention, air flow pressure is maintained and tumble is optimized compared to rotational movement of the blade by contouring the top wall surface to track the arc defined by the rotating upper edge of the blade.
