Abstract: A flush-mounted fireplace assembly comprising a surround structure configured to encompass a perimeter of an opening in a mounting wall and a bezel structure configured to fit within the outer surround structure. An inner edge of the surround structure and an outer edge of the bezel structure oppose each other and define a gap between inner edge and outer edge such that air can flow through the gap. An outside major surface of the surround structure and an outside major surface of the bezel structure are substantially co-planar with each other and with an exterior surface of the mounting wall.

Abstract: A multimedia fireplace console comprising a heating unit, a supporting device defining an air chamber, and an entertainment assembly which allows a user to enjoy a movie or music in 3d surround sound in a warm and comfortable environment. The heating unit is housed within the air chamber and is able to generate warm air to be blown towards the user through an air outlet. The entertainment assembly is further comprised of a sound system that is supported at a position that faces the user by the supporting device, which allows the sounds system to be heard at an optimal distance from the user. The support device is allows a displayed device such as a television to be support on a top surface and allows the television to be viewed at an optimal height.

Decorative screens of the invention may also be for other purposes. The fireplace screen includes a planar main member, a decorative design applied to the front surface of the main member, a substantially clear adhesive layer over the decorative design, a design-enhancing mosaic of shattered-glass pieces adhered to the adhesive layer and substantially covering the decorative design, and grout between the shattered class pieces and securing them in place. Certain preferred embodiments are a support member along the lower edge, a frame, a foam board on the back surface of the main member to facilitate air-blocking of the fireplace. Preferred decorative features are glitter selectively applied over the design and use of a substantially transparent material as the main member.

Abstract: A manufactured fireplace is adapted for flush-mounting within a pre-sized opening in a wall structure without the need to double the layers of drywall surrounding the opening. The fireplace metal facing panels are manufactured to be flush from the fireplace window to an outer edge of the panels. Non-combustible board is attached over the panels during manufacture of the fireplace, obviating the need for installers to size, cut and attach non-combustible board to the fireplace panels on site then to attempt to achieve a flush-mounting by doubling up the layer of drywall surrounding the fireplace opening. The fireplace including the attached non-combustible board facing is shipped to a work site for installation.

Abstract: A fire surround for use with a substantially enclosed gas fire unit (34) comprises an outer fascia (12) securable, in use, to a chimney breast around a flue opening in the chimney breast, the outer fascia having an opening therein for receiving the gas fire unit (34), and an inner fascia (22) securable, in use, to the outer fascia (12) so as to entrap an out-turned flange (40) of the gas fire unit (34) between the inner and outer fascias. The inner fascia (22) comprises a pair of side columns (26) bridged by a top portion (28), and at least one of the side columns (26) is formed as a channel member for receiving a slide control for operating the gas fire unit (34). The invention also provides a method for the securing such a fire surround to a chimney breast so as to secure in place the gas fire unit (34).

Abstract: A direct vent fireplace unit that resembles an open hearth wood fireplace. The unit is installable in the interior of a dwelling above a surface defining an outer hearth. The unit includes an outer casing to define a cavity in the dwelling adjacent the outer hearth surface. A combustion chamber is provided having enclosing walls, a floor, a roof and an open front face with a combustion air inlet and an exhaust outlet communicating the combustion chamber with the exterior of the dwelling. The combustion chamber is mountable within the cavity of the outer casing such that the floor of the combustion chamber is substantially co-planar with the surface defining the outer hearth. A burner element for burning fuel within the combustion chamber is connectable to a fuel supply. A controller to control the burner element and a transparent cover mountable over the open front of the combustion chamber to seal the combustion chamber from the interior of the dwelling are also provided.

Abstract: A metallic fireplace shield is provided which fits into a fireplace opening by flexing or bowing the shield in the vertical or horizontal direction and placing it in the fireplace opening while flexed. After insertion the shield is partially relaxed. The residual stresses in the shield provide a pressure on the fireplace sides which holds it firmly in place.

The cover may also include at least one fastener for removably attaching the opaque substrate to the frame within the front access opening of the fireplace for display of the decorative indicia.

Abstract: A front surround or enclosure for overlying the open front of a fireplace box is disclosed. The enclosure has a relatively narrow peripheral frame that carries one or a plurality of glass panels that substantially fill the enclosed area defined by the outer frame. The glass panels may be rigidly secured to the frame or can be configured as operable doors. Patterns configured by silk screening or other application techniques are selectively applied, preferably to the inner surface(s), of the glass panel(s) to enhance visual appeal of the glass and/or to selectively mask the viewer's vision through the glass. Quick release brackets are provided for detachably securing the enclosure to the front of a fireplace box.

Abstract: A collapsible, portable outdoor fireplace with a fire screen assembly is easily broken down into its constituent components, which are stored in a space between the cover and bottom members of the fireplace. A fire screen assembly is supported between the cover and bottom members and includes a series of individual screen panels that are hinged together. The fireplace has a support structure that supports it off the ground and includes pairs of legs that are attached to the bottom member. The legs may extend either up through the cover and bottom members or alongside the bottom member. These support legs terminate in handle portions. In the assembled operational state the top chimney section fits over an opening through the top of the firebox section which fits, at the bottom, onto the top of the base section. In order to facilitate both transport and storage the sections may be configured so that the overall height and volume is much less than the overall height and volume of the fireplace in an operational state. The inverted chimney section may be largely disposed within the firebox section depending from the top of the same through an opening through the top of the firebox section and the base section then fitted on top of both depending downward exterior to the firebox section. At least one lateral opening to the inside of the firebox is provided for access to the interior and facilitation of viewing of a wood burning fire inside.

Abstract: Disclosed is a window construction for a heater, which generally has a frame and at least one panel fitted on the frame. The frame and the at least one panel are usually made of different materials having different expansion coefficients. An expansion compensator made of bimetallic material is provided to the window located between the frame and a distal portion of the at least one panel to otherwise contact the frame. The expansion compensator compensates the differential expansions occurring between the frame and the at least one panel as the heater temperature changes.

Abstract: A fireplace downdraft regulator having a first end and a second end, such regulator extending across the top of a fireplace opening, such regulator having an aerodynamic draft header portion having a front face and a height and length, such draft header portion extending downwardly and rearwardly from the fireplace top at approximately 45 degrees to a vertical to form a corner angle and then extending upwards at approximately 90 degrees to the aerodynamic draft header portion to form a deflector portion with the deflector portion angled upwards into the chimney such that the inside portion of the regulator deflects downdrafts back upwards within the chimney and the aerodynamic draft header portion aids in drawing air from the room, which air travels down its front face and around the corner angle and back up the outside face of the deflector portion to help increase the updraft of air within the chimney.

Abstract: An unvented fuel burning appliance that includes a firebox, a burner and a front door releasably securable to the firebox. The firebox has an open front and enclosed bottom, rear, side and top surfaces. The door has a central panel with a catalytic converter positioned on the upper portion of the central panel. Exhaust gases from the burner are directed through the catalytic converter prior to exiting the firebox such that the catalytic converter eliminates or reduces harmful or noxious gases and particulate material contained within the exhaust gases. Heat that is generated by the operation of the catalytic converter is substantially directed, by way of radiation and convection, outwardly through the front of the appliance to reduce heat generated and maintained at the top of the firebox and thereby reduce the heating of the top surface of the appliance.

Abstract: The devices and methods described relate to the prevention of the spreading of campfires which might create forest fires through the unintentional emission of embers and sparks. The invention encloses the campfire in a three dimensional space. It is self-supporting, is easily portable and transportable by selection of an appropriate shape and weight, and is compactable through folding or rolling by the use of rings or hinges. The principal geometric shape is pyramidal with the use of multiple panels. Further, these panels have two end panels which can be folded out to allow temporary access to the campfire.

Abstract: A firebox cabinet comprising a front panel, two side panels and a top panel is disclosed, the cabinet mounting flush onto a firebox having a mounting flange. The front panel contains an opening corresponding to the front firebox face, and two recesses surround this opening, the first adapted to receive the mounting flange, the second adapted to provide clearance for fastening members. The front panel locks onto the mounting flange, and the cabinet is preferably of modular construction whereby the components are joined together with self-interlocking joining means.

The clip (26) includes a lip (72) that is sized to be received within the semicircular channel (46) of the frame member (24), the clip (26) being slidable or otherwise positionable at desired locations along the length of any of the segments (28, 30, 32, and 34). The clip (26) extends outwardly from the frame member (24) for attachment to the sidewall portions (14, 16, 18, and 20) of the fireplace opening ( 12) by a fastener (90) that extends through an aperture (76) in the clip (26).

Abstract: A screen, e.g. fire-guard is provided for heating a room by convection using the heat from a radiation heat source, e.g. an open hearth fire, a gas-fire or an electric radiant heater, and when the heat source is an open hearth fire for use as a fire-guard preventing sparks or other small particles of combustion from entering the room in which the fire is located. The screen includes a row of at least with their upper portions spaced apart vertical pipes having each at or near their lower end an inlet opening and at or near their upper end an outlet opening for air sucked from the room by the chimney-action of the warm pipes. The pipes of at least one pair of adjacent pipes of the screen are hingedly interconnected for the rotation of one of these pipes about the longitudinal axis of the other pipe thereof by coupling and clamping means.

The cover is rigid and may be formed of hingedly connected panels to permit folding and storage of the cover.
