Smoke Washing Type Patents (Class 131/173)
  • Patent number: 4111213
Abstract: A smoking pipe includes a base, a cylindrical standpipe extending upward from the base, and a smoke inlet pipe arranged concentrically within the standpipe and extending from near the base up to a little above an intermediate water level. Baffle plates are disposed around the inlet pipe at successive levels below the water level and extend radially between the inlet pipe and the standpipe to form a labyrinthine passage for smoke. The standpipe wall has a vent hole and an inlet hole above the water level, and a bowl support pipe having a general S shape is removably but snugly fitted through the inlet hole to releasably fit into the upper end of the inlet pipe and to support a bowl outside the standpipe.

  • Patent number: 4111214
Abstract: A water pipe having a tubular body bent at an acute angle into "V" shape, the first leg of the "V" supported by a stand at a shallow angle to the horizontal with the "V" apex down, and the second leg above in a vertical plane. The first leg has a removable plug at the free end for introduction and removal of water and for cleaning, and a smoke inlet partway up the incline of the leg and near the top surface. Smoke is introduced from a smoke tube leading from a pipe bowl supported by the stand beyond and above the apex. The second leg of the "V" has a purge tube connecting at an inlet partway up the leg in the top surface and leading to a thumb-controllable purge vent in a handsaw-type grip in a wedge shaped brace tying the "V" legs together.

  • Patent number: 4108152
Abstract: A liquid-filtered smoking device includes a liquid reservoir container for retaining a body of liquid, and is provided with an aperture within a sidewall portion thereof for receiving a tubular member which has a smoking bowl mounted upon the upper end thereof which projects upwardly and outwardly from the device. The lower end of the tubular member is immersed within the liquid, and the upper portion of the reservoir container is defined by another tubular member upon which a sealing, storage compartment cap is removably mounted. The cap seals the reservoir in a fluid-tight manner and also defines a storage compartment therein for housing, for example, tobacco or the smoking bowl, the cap being removed when the device is operatively used for smoking purposes.

  • Patent number: 4041960
Abstract: A liquid filtered smoking device including a container having an opening, hollow at one end thereof, and having a liquid filtering medium therein, and a hollow, preferably cylindrical, tube, open at both ends, inserted through the peripheral wall of the container such that the lower end of the tube is immersed within the liquid filtering medium while the upper end of the tube projects outwardly from the container. A smoking bowl, having smoking tobacco deposited therein is secured upon the upper end of the tube and a filter is adapted to be inserted within the bowl in order to prevent tobacco ash and unburnt or partially burnt tobacco particles from passing through the tube and into the liquid filtering medium. The bowl may be either of the reversible or non-reversible type and the filter may be utilized in conjunction with both types of bowls.

  • Patent number: 4036240
Abstract: A smoking apparatus comprising a pipe bowl, a hollow pipe stem and a pipe body. The pipe body includes a detachable base portion and a replaceable filtering cartridge disposed within the body. The cartridge has a liquid therein for filtering, cooling and/or flavoring smoke passing therethrough. The cartridge further includes means for providing a first smoke port, a first tubular extension member extending therefrom, a means for providing a second smoke port, and a second tubular extension member extending therefrom. The first extension member extends below the top surface of the liquid when the apparatus is substantially upright and above that surface otherwise. The second extension member extends to a point which is always above the top surface of the liquid.

The smoking pipe has a tube for retaining water or other filtering substances and a sealing cap is detachably secured to the bottom of the tube with the cap and tube assembly mounted in a recess of a base which applies further pressure to seal the cap to the tube. The sealing cap has a circular rib formed on the inner surface of the flange near the mouth of the cap. Also provided is a base having a recess to receive the cap and press the rib firmly against the tube wich seals the bottom of the tube when the smoking pipe is being used. The base and cap may be easily removed to clean the tube.

  • Patent number: 4031905
Abstract: Quite a large cylindrical tube for a mouthpiece tube and a smaller stem for supporting a small bowl extend upwardly from different portions of a hollow base. The hollow base functions as a reservoir, and the base and the lower portions of the stem and the mouthpiece tube are filled with water. A plastic ball within the mouthpiece tube helps control the draw of the pipe. The plastic ball is the sealing member of the check valve that prevents rapid flow of water from the mouthpiece tube to the stem when inhalation is stopped abruptly. The port of the check valve is a hole that is eccentric within the bottom of the mouthpiece tube. The eccentricity provides a desirable amount of leakage for slowly equalizing the level of water in the mouthpiece tube and the stem.

  • Patent number: 4029109
Abstract: A fluid-cooled smoking device includes a plurality of concentrically disposed tubular members which, depending upon the predetermined length of some of such members, and/or the provision of apertures therewithin, together define an elongated serpentine fluid flow path. An ash receptacle is defined within the upstream portion of the fluid flow path while the downstream portion of the flow path includes a liquid chamber, and in this manner, the smoke is air-cooled within the upstream portion of the flow path, ash deposits are segregated from the fluid flow prior to the same being further cooled within the water chamber, and consequently, the water chamber does not readily become contaminated.

  • Patent number: 4014353
Abstract: A fluid-cooled smoking device includes a housing for containing a liquid coolant, and a tubular member projecting into the housing for supporting a smoking bowl-ash receptacle assembly disposed upon and with the tubular member. Concentric tubular members within the ash receptacle portion of the assembly define a serpentine flow path whereby the smoke and fumes to be inhaled are initially air-cooled, and subsequently, the air-cooled smoke and fumes pass into the liquid coolant so as to be liquid-cooled prior to reaching the smoker. The ash receptacle accumulates burnt tobaccos and ash deposits and prevents the same from entering the liquid coolant whereby the latter remains clean for extended periods of time.

  • Patent number: 3982897
Abstract: The quantity of carbon monoxide removed from a gas stream by a filter containing hemoglobin is greatly enhanced in quantity when the hemoglobin is accompanied by another factor present in blood. The quantity of carbon monoxide removable from a gas stream by hemoglobin depends upon the equivalent weight of the hemoglobin. However, in the presence of the additional factor, the quantity of carbon monoxide removed is substantially greater than can be accounted for by the stoichiometry of the hemoglobin alone.
