Abstract: A device for clamping thick, textured, coiled or kinky hair includes first and second curved components, each with an outer edge and an inner concave curved edge between first and second ends. The inner concave edges include a plurality of inwardly directed, spaced-apart teeth. A hinge joins the first ends of the curved components, enabling the second ends of the components to open and close around a bundle of hair with the teeth penetrating into the bundle. A cooperating closure maintains the device in position around the bundle of hair. The ends of the teeth define an opening even when the device is closed around the bundle of hair. The first and second curved components are preferably integrally formed from molded plastic. The cooperating closure may include first and second hook shapes. The device may come in different sizes to accommodate different hair textures and styles of children and adults.

Abstract: A hair apparatus and hair retention method includes a spine having a longitudinal axis, wherein the spine includes a hole and a peg outwardly protruding from an edge of the spine and substantially along the longitudinal axis of the spine. The spine includes a plurality of protrusions outwardly projecting orthogonal to the longitudinal axis of the spine. The hair apparatus further includes a first clip portion including a first connecting mechanism that non-integrally connects the first clip portion with the spine, wherein the first connecting mechanism is positioned at a first end of the first clip portion. The first clip portion includes a first attachment mechanism positioned at a second end of the first clip portion, wherein the first end is at an opposite end from the second end, and thereby the first connecting mechanism and the first attachment mechanism are positioned at opposite ends of the first clip portion.

Abstract: A hair accessory device; in particular, a device and method of use that is uniquely configured to clamp and securely grasp hair in place and allow the hair to appear fuller. The device is a double hair clip having a corresponding pair of pivotable jaws, an inner set and an outer set. This advantageously allows for the secure holding of hair while creating the look of hair fullness.

Abstract: A hair barrette includes two barrette members each having an outer head engaging end and an ear extended from an inner coupling end, and a coupling device includes two coupling members disposed above and below the ears and having two pivot axles for pivotally coupling the ears between the coupling members and for allowing the barrette members to be folded to an opened working position where the barrette members are opened and oppositely spaced from each other for forming or operating as a hair barrette device, and to be folded relative to each other to a folded storing position where the barrette members are engaged with each other for forming or operating as a hair clip device.

Abstract: Apparatus having three hinged arms for separating portions of a person's hair during a French-braiding process. The two elongated outer arms attach to a connector body via pivots while the middle elongated arm attaches via rivets, allowing the elongated outer arms to open and close. The elongated outer arms each include a set of prongs extending towards the middle elongated arm. The middle elongated arm includes apertures or grooves in which the prongs of the elongated outer arms can nest. The elongated outer arms also include a securing mechanism such that they can fasten to the middle elongated arm via a post, for example, to maintain the hair braiding apparatus in a closed position. In preferred embodiments, the third or middle arm of the device uniquely separates the hair (e.g. at a part) to effect simplified braiding.

Abstract: A hair clip comprises a first clip member including a first arcuate rod and a second clip member including a second arcuate rod. The second arcuate rod includes a first end pivotally engaged with a first end of the first arcuate rod and a second end releasably engaged with the second end of the first arcuate rod. Arcuate first teeth project from the first arcuate rod and extend toward the second arcuate rod. Arcuate second teeth project from the second arcuate rod and extend toward the first arcuate rod.

Abstract: This invention is a device for parting hair into a preferred style. The device has an extended point that is preferably a solid point and two handles that each hinge about the point such that the handles open and close in a jaw like fashion. The handles are preferably flattened elongated handles that are larger at the holding ends for easy operation and handling of the device. The tip is also preferably flattened and substantially co-planar with the handles or positioned at an angled of 45 degree or less relative to the plane of the flattened handles. In an alternative embodiment of the invention, the handles section are connected together by a single hinge near or at the tip section of the device. Hair is parted into the preferred configuration by tracing the tip of the device through a section of hair with the handles in the closed position such that the hair flows over the handles and accumulates on the handles. The handles are then opened thus separating the hair and forming the part.

Abstract: The hair clip includes two comb-shaped elements pivotably mounted in relation to each other and held in a brought-together state by an elastic member. Each comb-shaped element has teeth arranged on an end of the element. A first set of teeth has at least one opening in which a corresponding tooth from a second set of teeth engages when the cone-shaped elements are in a completely or a partially brought-together position to adequately clamp the hair.

Abstract: A hair holder includes two symmetric holder members made of flexible material. Each holder member includes a first portion for holding hair, a second portion for retaining hair, and a transition portion interconnecting the first portion and the second portion in an acute angle to thereby define a hair holding space therebetween. The first portion of each holder member includes a number of first slits spaced along a width thereof to thereby define a number of first teeth spaced along the width. The second portion of each holder member includes a number of second slits spaced along a width thereof to thereby define a number of second teeth spaced along the width. The width of each second tooth increases from a distal end of the second portion to the transition portion, thereby defining an engaging portion adjacent to the transition portion.

Abstract: A hairpiece is provided for extending the length of a wearer's natural hair. The hairpiece includes an attachment and a detachable flexible band, such as a fabric band. The attachment has a pair of free ends and male and female snap fastener components respectively located near either free end. Attached to the flexible band are a plurality of hair strands and a pair of complementary snap fastener components mated to the snap fastener components of the attachment. This arrangement allows the hair strands to be selectively coupled to the attachment. The attachment can also include a plurality of inwardly projecting comb-like tangs. The comb-like tangs prevent the hairpiece from being easily displaced after being positioned on the wearer's head. A method of attaching the hairpiece to existing hair is also provided.

Abstract: A first comb has a graduated scale attached near a first end of the scale so that the scale can be pivoted outwardly and inwardly from the first comb. A cutting guide first end is pivotably attached to the second end of the graduated scale. The graduated scale can be slidable lengthwise with respect to the first comb to position the cutting guide a select distance from the first comb. A swivel or hinge permits the graduated scale to extend in the plane of the first comb or to extend perpendicular to it or any angle in between. Clamping or friction provision permit the first comb and the graduated scale and the cutting guide to all be fixed in the plane of the first comb, either in a folded carrying configuration or in a ready-to-use configuration, or to fix the graduated scale perpendicular to the plane of the first comb and to fix the cutting guide parallel to the plane of the first comb at a fixed or at a select distance parallel to the plane of the first comb.

Abstract: A hair-styling device, for french braiding hair, including a first comb detachably secured to a second comb, with each comb vertically disposed in the hair. Each comb has an arcuate spine supporting horizontally extending teeth vertically spaced apart on the spine. The second comb abuts the bottom of the first comb and is disposed in a plane below and parallel to the first comb. The teeth of the second comb are aligned intermediate consecutive teeth on the first comb, and teeth on the first comb are similarly aligned intermediate consecutive teeth on the second comb. This arrangement of the comb teeth separate hair into predetermined sections of hair of uniform thicknesses that are vertically disposed and alternating from side-to-side on the head. The combs are inserted in the hair, a user interweaves the hair sections for braiding. A user then detaches the first comb from the second comb and removes the combs from the hair while retaining the hair braid design.

Abstract: A hair clip includes a first clip piece and a second clip piece which are complimentarily formed. Each of the first and second clip pieces includes an inclined teeth-like clipping portion formed at a bottom thereof, each inclined clipping portion including a plurality of teeth which are so spaced and dimensioned as to allow smooth lateral opening and closing of the two clipping portions without jamming between the teeth of the clipping portions. The second clip piece has a first end pivotally connected to a first end of the first clip piece. The first clip piece and the second clip piece respectively have a clipping end formed on a second end thereof, the two clipping ends extending in different directions so as to be releasably engaged together.

Abstract: A braiding apparatus and method are provided useful in gathering and separating a person's hair into a series of discrete bundles which may be woven into braids, during which braid making process the apparatus of the invention may be left in the hair to maintain the hair bundle configuration while the braid is being made. An apparatus is provided with a pair of arcuately shaped pivotally interconnected clips having oppositely facing comb structures configured to form a series of bundle-forming slots when the comb structures are brought into registration with one another after moving the clips toward one another through the hair.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for styling hair includes a latch mechanism for releasably securing a hair styling device about a plurality of hair strands. The latch mechanism is adapted to interconnect first and second pivotally interconnected elongated members of the hair styling device and includes a first latch member disposed substantially adjacent a first end of the first elongated member and a second latch member disposed substantially adjacent a first end of the second elongated member. The first and second latch members are adapted to releasably engage one another. At least one of the first and second elongated latch is elastically deformable. In the preferred embodiment, each of the latch members includes a first segment having a free end spaced apart from an adjacent surface of its respective elongated member. Each free end cooperates with the adjacent surface to define an opening therebetween.

Abstract: The present invention is directed to a multi-directional hairstyling adjustable level barrette device. It includes a barrette member which has a first elongated frame and a second elongated frame with each of these frames having a plurality of teeth. The first elongated frame and the second elongated frame each have a first end and a second end and the first end of these frames are hingedly connected to one another and the second ends of these frames have an attachment mechanism which permits them to be removably attachable to one another. The comb member has a plurality of teeth and it has a comb member attachment mechanism so that it can be attached to the barrette member at a plurality of locations along the elongated length of the barrette member. For example, the attachment mechanism may be hooks, snaps or slide-ins or other attachment mechanisms.

Abstract: A hair clip including a first comb member having a forward end and a rearward end and a plurality of teeth extending therefrom, a first comb member having a forward end and a rearward end with a plurality of teeth extending therefrom, and a flexible band affixed to the rearward end of the first comb member and affixed to the rearward end of the second comb member. The flexible band has an accordion shape of expandable length. The forward end of the first comb member is detachably connected to a forward end of the second comb member such that the teeth are separated in an unintertwined relationship. The first comb member is movable between a first position engaging the forward end of the second comb member and a first position extending distal the second comb member.

Abstract: A toothed hair fastener having leaf-spring elements situated between one or more of the teeth of the fastener, and suitable for both thick and thin hair. Preferably, the leaf-springs are integrally formed as part of the toothed hair fastener.
