Abstract: An improved headset is provided to selectively distribute the weight of the headset while securely registering the headset comfortably on a wearer's head. The headset comprises one or more compliant arms and a frame to selectively distribute the weight of the headset and secure the headset to the wearer's head without the need for straps or leavers. The compliant arms provide a normalizing force through elastic body deformation to selectively distribute the weight of the headset.

Abstract: A hair curling device has a flexible flat base portion, a stem having a bottom end secured to the base portion, and a bowl portion having a frusto-conical wall extending upwardly from a top end of the stem in an open position. The frusto-conical wall has a top edge and a flange extending from the top edge, the frusto-conical wall adapted to be folded over in position around the stem so as to enclose the stem and the base portion in a folded position where the flange of the frusto-conical wall extends around the outer edge of the base portion and is aligned with the bottom of the base portion. The base portion, the stem and the bowl portion are made in one piece from a silicone material. The frusto-conical wall has a greater thickness in a region adjacent the stem than the thickness along the rest of the frusto-conical wall.

Abstract: A unitary device for curling hair that can be described as comprising three portions: an upper head portion having a generally circular shape with a throughbore in its general radial center; an elongated body portion integrally extending from the upper head portion and having a generally shaft-like shape with at least one notch along its longitudinal axis; and a lower tip portion integrally extending from the elongated body portion and generally tapering to a tip. Furthermore, the hair curler device is capable being resiliently looped along a generally lengthwise axis and locked in a looped configuration when at least one notch is passed through the throughbore.

Abstract: Disclosed herein is a perm rod. The perm rod includes a body, a sheet of permanent wave paper, and a rubber band. The body is made of an aluminum material, has a hollow cylindrical shape, and is configured such that hair is rolled around the body, a plurality of slots is formed in the outer surface of the body, and caps, having coupling protrusions, are fitted into the respective ends of the body. The sheet of permanent wave paper is rolled around the body in the state in which an appropriate number of hairs is placed on the sheet of permanent wave paper. The rubber band has coupling holes, which are formed in the respective ends thereof, and is detachably coupled to the coupling protrusions.

Abstract: A device for permanently curling hair has a hair rod, a cap, and an optional elastic band for attaching the cap to the hair rod. The hair rod is formed as a cylindrical hollow body. A first and second end plates are positioned on respective ends of the body. A plurality of outwardly extending projections formed on an outer surface of the body between the first and the second end plates facilitate retaining of hair on the rod during the rolling process. The body has a pair of diametrically opposite elongated slots that help retain pieces of perm paper on the hair and the rod, and a plurality of openings extending through the body that facilitate free water and perming solution flow through the hair rod. The cap has a lengthwise slit, and is sufficiently resilient to permit the lengthwise slit to be selectively widened by hands to snap over the body to thereby closely encircle the body with the mesh cap.

Abstract: A hair perm rod for permming hair including a cylindrical hollow rod having a center section with a knurled surface, and having an integrally attached end wall with a perimeter wall edge at one end of the hollow rod; and a detachable end cap with a perimeter wall edge at the other end of the hollow rod. The hair perm rod further includes a plurality of ventilation and liquid holes formed within the center section of the hollow rod; and a plurality of hair gripper teeth formed on knurled surface of the hollow rod. In addition, the hair perm rod also includes an elastic band having a first and a second end for connecting to the end wall and end cap, respectively. The end wall includes a first plurality of notches extending in a radial direction and a center hole formed therein for receiving the first end of the elastic band. The end cap includes a second plurality of notches extending in a radial direction and a center hole formed therein for receiving the second end of the elastic band.

Abstract: A flexible hair roller having a soft cylindrical central core surrounded by and sealed within a soft towel-like outer covering. A snap and a snap catch are located at opposite ends of the flexible hair roller so that the roller can be folded back and closed upon itself with the opposite ends being detachably connected together to form a loop configuration. By virtue of the foregoing, the wearer is able to achieve a variety of hair styles (e.g. a spiral curl) without using caustic chemicals or damaging heat or requiring that the hair be wet. Moreover, the flexible hair roller is washable, lightweight so as to be easily packaged and transported, and comfortable to wear through the night.

Abstract: A hairstyling device includes a material that is elongated soft, resilient, lightweight in combination with a semi-rigid loop that is bendable enough to shape, but stiff enough to assume and retain any shape it is bent into. The loop extends beyond the material and along the outer surface of the material. The loop has second and third pliable extensions attached to it beneath the ends of the material. The extensions can be retained beneath the material or extended outwardly and bent back for securing hair, or bent and attached to each other to hold the material in a circular oval or other shape.

Abstract: A hair braiding tool allows the user to simulate a French braid style hair-do. The apparatus includes an elongated body member comprising a continuous curving web. The body is formed of a plurality of generally C-shaped or horseshoe shaped alternating loops each providing a socket into which a section of hair can be placed when simulating a French braid style hair-do. In a second embodiment, an elongated curved comb like member has first and second sets of opposed teeth. The user simply braids alternating sections of hair into the combs in creating the French braid style hair-do.

Abstract: A hair styling device comprising an elongated shaped outer covering, a deformable elongated structure within the interior of said device capable of being repeatedly bent to form said device into a variety of shapes, and an essentially centrally located elongated opening within the material to expose a central region of the deformable elongated structure, the essentially centrally located elongated opening being adapted for partial withdrawal of the central portion of the deformable structure to permit hair to be passed through a region lying between the withdrawn portion of the deformable structure and the elongated opening.

Abstract: A rod device is provided for rolling a lock of hair during permanent wave hairstyling. The rod device comprises an elongated, rigid center core and a fine open mesh covering the center core. The center core includes a central opening extending from a first end of the core to a second end of the core such that air is permitted to pass through the center core. The mesh provides support for a lock of hair wrapped onto the mesh and core sufficient to prevent the hair from being damaged during permanent wave hairstyling. The mesh allows fluid applied to the hair to easily pass therethrough such that at least a portion of the fluid applied to the hair is evaporated as air passes through the center core.

Abstract: A fabric hair curler includes a fabric body defining a receiving area for hair, and elements for restraining laterally the hair placed in the receiving area. First and second unreinforced fabric tie strips are positioned below the restraining elements and extend laterally from opposite edges of the body with sufficient length to be in tied relationship when hair restrained by the panels in the receiving area is rolled longitudinally with the body into a curl. The body, restraining elements, and tie strips are made as one piece from one or more portions of fabric sewn together. The design makes the fabric hair curler easy to use, manipulate and tie, and when in place, makes it comfortable to wear during waking or sleeping hours. Other features make possible variations in curl sizes and reduced drying times. A method for using provides for use of the fabric hair curler, and a variation of the method provides for producing curls in a shorter time.

Abstract: A hair curler device for winding hair strands in the application of spiral permanents. Two rod members are connected at one of their respective ends to a flexible elongated connector. The rod members include trapezoidal threads that cooperatively receive hair strands of a person. Removably mounted locking pieces embrace the rod members at a position along the rod members that substantially coincides with the end of the strand of hair being treated. A rubber band urges the free ends of the rod members toward each other.

Abstract: Presented is a permanent wave rod formed from an elongated elastically flexible synthetic resinous body devoid of embedded bendable wire and symmetrical about its longitudinal axis and having push-to-engage and pull-to-disengage cooperable fastener elements associated with opposite ends whereby a tress of hair may be spirally wound on the elongated body and the opposite ends engaged to form the elongated body into an ovate configuration to retain the tress of hair on the rod body.

Abstract: A bobbin or spool type hair curler having a cylindrical hair roller portion formed between a pair of opposing parallel flanges and provided with a pliable, integrally formed, cup-shaped closure member. The closure member is axially aligned to one of the end flanges of the spool shaped hair roller portion. The wall of the cup-shaped closure member extends away from the spool shaped portion and, after the hair is wound upon the spool shaped portion, the wall may be flipped substantially 180.degree. about its point of attachment to its corresponding flange in order to place the rim of the cup-shaped closure member proximate to the other flange to thereby retain the hair around the spool shaped portion. The invention additionally includes a method for curling hair with the aforementioned device and, in one embodiment the hair curler is provided with an axial throughbore and the invention further includes a method for heating same.

Abstract: A hair curler for providing a variable curl on human hair is disclosed. The hair curler comprises a first elongated portion that is situated for wrapping receipt of hair. This first elongated section has a cross-sectional area A that is substantially constant over a length of the first elongated portion. A second elongated portion extends axially from the first portion and is situated for wrapping receipt of hair therearound. The second portion has a cross-sectional area B that differs from cross-sectional area A. Cross-sectional area B is substantially constant over a length of the second elongated portion of the curler.

Abstract: A hair curler having a spool portion that is flexible and an attached cover of relatively rigid material adapted to be slid from an open to closed position and vice versa, over said spool portion after hair is wound thereon. A further hair curler has a flexible spool portion with a base flange at one end and a cup-like flange at the other end, said cup-like flange having a rigid rim which can be pushed over said base flange after hair is wound on said spool.

Abstract: A radially expandable hair curler comprising a generally cylindrical hollow body, a detachable holding strap stretching from one longitudinal end of the body to the other, and internal mechanical devices for expanding and contracting the curler body.

Abstract: The invention relates to hair rollers and provides for the use of a cylindrical tube rolled from a rectangular sheet of flexible material, the sheet having an outer edge which overlaps a portion of the tube. The tube has a pair of opposing transverse edges, each of which is engaged within a spiral groove formed in opposing caps. The caps are rotationally mounted on an elongated shaft, such that rotation of the disks causes advancement of the transverse edges within the spiral groove, changing the diameter of the outer tube, as desired.

Abstract: A non-heated hair waving device for producing perm-like curls and waves in the hair. The device has a U-shaped curler with outwardly flared ends around which the hair is woven in a figure eight pattern. A unique end clip is slid onto the ends of the U-shaped curler and folded over the ends of the hair and locked to hold the hair firmly in place.
