A motor is connected to a drive belt which causes the grinding drum to rotate while isolating the grinding drum, and thus the animal, from vibration. The grinding drum has an outer surface covered with grit. When the pet's nail is brought into contact with the drum outer surface, the grit coupled with the rotation of the drum both conditions the nail for grooming by causing the vein to retract, and also causes the nail to be filed down. • Patent number: 7500486
Abstract: A fingernail grinder uses a bench grinder-like configuration wherein a motor has dual output shafts with a wheel with an abrasive outer circumference attached to one of the shafts. The wheel is contained within a protective housing that has a longitudinal slit through which a fingernail passes to be ground down by the abrasive wheel. A padded member may surround the slit in order to help the user control the depth of insertion of the fingernail. At least one additional slit can be provided with a padded member of different thickness. The opposite side of the device can have a second abrasive wheel with a different coarseness, a buffing wheel or a centrifugal fan contained within a fan housing and having a debris collection bag near the bottom thereof. The fan housing is connected to the abrasive wheel housing and draws the fingernail debris out of that housing and deposits the debris in the debris bag.

  • Patent number: 7475687
Abstract: The invention relates to a nailcare device, comprising a housing (1) and a discoid grinding body (4), driven by an electric motor, sitting on a driveshaft (10), connected to an electric motor (6). The essentially discoid grinding body (4) is arranged in the upper part of the device housing (1), beneath a cover or plate (3), parallel to the upper side (4a) of the grinding body (4), fixed to the housing (1) of the device in an easily detachable manner and with at least two slots (3a) for the fingernail of the user as close as possible to the grinding body (4) at differing radial separations from the driveshaft (10). The cover or plate (3) can be funnel- or cone-shaped with relation to the grinding body (4), such that the axial separation between the upper side (4a) of the discoid grinding body (4) and the slots (3a), arranged at various radial separations from the driveshaft (10), increases or decreases with increasing separation from the driveshaft (10).

  • Patent number: 7377282
Abstract: A hand held nail polish removal tool includes a housing having a main body connected by an elongated neck to a head. An abrasive member is removably attached to the head and the tool contains a motor or transducer for causing the abrasive member to move so that when the abrasive member is positioned against a finger or toe nail, the abrasive member will abrade away any polish on the nail. The polish removal process may be accelerated by applying a solvent to the abrasive member. This may be done by dipping that member in a solvent or by including a solvent in the member or by incorporating a solvent dispensing system in the housing which allows a solvent to be delivered via the head to the member's abrasive surface. Preferably, the tool is powered by a rechargeable battery in the housing. Various different abrasive cover members for attachment to the head are also disclosed.

Abstract: An electrically operated sander for removing calluses and increasing circulation, having a rectangular base unit for insertion into a docking unit. The base unit has a rear end, and includes a movable base plate having rounded edges and a grainy surface area and a gripping handle. The gripping handle extends outwardly from the base unit and defines a curved junction before extending horizontally toward the rear end of the base unit. The base unit houses a motor having a drive shaft mechanically linked to base plate. A rotating two position on-off switch actuates the motor, causing the base plate to vibrate. A rectangular docking unit has a hollow cavity for accepting the gripping handle of the base unit therein for allowing users a hands free method of removing calluses.

  • Patent number: 7267125
Abstract: A device for sanding, buffing or grinding elongate objects includes a housing having a collar at one end and a rotatable sanding/buffing head rotatably mounted in the collar. The collar defines a cavity. A driveshaft is mounted to a motor in the housing for rotation of the driveshaft about an axis of rotation of the head upon actuation of the motor. A distal end of the driveshaft extends into the cavity in the collar. The sanding/buffing head may be cup-shaped and removably mounted or mountable into the collar on to the distal end of the driveshaft. The driveshaft rotates the cup within, and relative to, the collar upon the actuation of the motor. An abrasive is mounted to the annular inner surface of the cavity in the collar. The second end of the housing, opposite the first end, provides a handle for manual grasping and lifting by a user.
