  • Patent number: 8496759
Abstract: A dishwasher is provided that advantageously enables reduction of the amount of water required during the rinsing cycle in order to thereby minimize operational costs and to improve environmental compatibility. A water preparation system has a water preparation container which can receive at least one part of the rinsing liquid used during operation of the dishwasher. The impurities contained in the rinsing liquid are at least partially biodegraded during a water preparation phase with the aid of microorganisms. By preparing and recycling at least one part of the used rinsing water, it is possible to reduce the requirement for fresh water. This enables the burden on the environment to be reduced since at least one part of the water used during the rinsing process is biologically cleansed while it is still in the dishwasher and the requirement for fresh water for the dishwasher is thus reduced.

Abstract: A dishwasher includes a controller controlling a cleaning cycle, a screen system for filtering a wash fluid, a circulation chamber and a collection chamber in fluid communication with the circulation chamber via a screen arrangement, a circulation pump for circulating the wash fluid and a drain pump for pumping out the wash fluid. During the cleaning cycle, to detect blockage in the screen arrangement, a degree of transmission in the circulation chamber filled with wash fluid is determined with an optical turbidity sensor in a first measuring step. The wash fluid is then pumped out of the collection chamber and the degree of transmission in the circulation chamber is again determined in a second measuring step. The change in the degree of transmission from the first measuring step to the second measuring step is then evaluated.

  • Patent number: 8336226
Abstract: A process for removing water from solid material using liquid-solid extraction and liquid-liquid extraction. In most embodiments, multiple solvents are used to remove the water from the solids and obtain dry solids. Multiple solvents facilitate the removal of the water from the solids, by replacing the water with a solvent, replacing that solvent with a different solvent, and then eventually removing the second solvent from the solids. The process utilizes a lesser amount of thermal energy to dry the solids and separate the solvents than conventionally used in drying processes. The first solvent selected has a lower heat of vaporization, enthalphy of vaporization, boiling point, or other such physical property, than water. Each additional solvent can have a still lower heat of vaporization, enthalphy of vaporization, boiling point, or other such physical property.
