Patent number: 7503983Abstract: A wafer preparation method is provided for producing a wet region and then a corresponding dry region on the wafer. Brushing produces the wet region on the wafer. As the brushing moves in a selected scan operation across the wafer, a generating operation forms a meniscus that follows the brushing and dries the wet region. The generating operation produces the meniscus at least partially surrounding the wet region scrubbed by the scrubbing. The controlled meniscus is formed by applying fluid to the surface of the wafer and simultaneously removing the fluid. The scan operations may be selected so the brushing scrubs the wet region and then the meniscus forms the dry region where the scrubbing took place. The scan operations include a radial scan, a linear scan, a spiral scan and a raster scan.Type: GrantFiled: January 11, 2008Date of Patent: March 17, 2009Assignee: Lam Research CorporationInventors: John M. The method has a first cleaning stage during which the level of the liquid (WA) is lower than or equal to the level of the content of the stirring member (BA). It optionally includes a second cleaning stage during which the level of the liquid (WA) is higher than the level of the content of the stirring member (BA).Type: ApplicationFiled: January 26, 2006Publication date: November 13, 2008Inventors: Jacques Henri Bielle, Pierre Laujon

Publication number: 20080272286Abstract: The present invention is directed to ion source and vacuum housings for use in MALDI-TOF mass spectrometry which operates with any type of mass analyzer including linear, reflector, or tandem TOF-TOF instruments. By removing the requirement for the vacuum lock, the present invention allows operation of the ion source vacuum chamber at a pressure at least two orders of magnitude higher than conventional instruments. The present invention also requires only a single valve that isolates the ion source vacuum housing from the TOF analyzer vacuum housing. This is a significant improvement over vacuum locks in the art where the valve opening must be sufficiently large to allow the sample plate to pass through.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 1, 2007Publication date: November 6, 2008Inventor: Marvin L. Publication number: 20080257384Abstract: An improved apparatus and a method of using the apparatus for cleaning tools, utensils, and other objects. The apparatus comprises a container, a first wiping element that is submerged in a liquid in the container capable of removing undesirable material from at least a portion of the object and a second wiping element mountable to the container that is capable of removing excess moisture from the object. The object undergoes at least a two-step wiping comprising a first wiping against the first wiping element while submerged in the liquid and a second wiping against the second wiping element after being at least partially removed from the liquid. The apparatus of the invention reduces the potential for serious injuries from cuts or abrasions from contact with the objects and is more sanitary than systems currently used in the prior art. The apparatus of the invention may also be easily disassembled for cleaning.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 25, 2006Publication date: October 23, 2008Inventor: Christopher P. Farrell

Publication number: 20080257383Abstract: In one disclosed embodiment, the present method for semiconductor fabrication utilizing a cleaning substrate comprises loading a cleaning substrate capable of removing an undesirable particle from a semiconductor processing tool onto the tool, causing the undesirable particle to be attracted to the cleaning substrate, and unloading the cleaning substrate from the semiconductor processing tool. Following cleaning, the processing tool can be used for producing a lithographic pattern on a semiconductor wafer. In one embodiment, the cleaning substrate comprises an electret. In another embodiment, the cleaning substrate comprises an adhesive layer. The present method can be used without breaking vacuum, or otherwise altering the operational state of a processing tool. In one embodiment, the present method is used in conjunction with an exposure tool utilized for high resolution lithography, for example, an extreme ultraviolet (EUV) lithographic exposure tool.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 23, 2007Publication date: October 23, 2008Inventor: Harry J.
