Abstract: A marine engine cooling system is provided with a valve in which a ball moves freely within a cavity formed within the valve. Pressurized water, from a sea pump, causes the ball to block fluid flow through the cavity and forces pumped water to flow through a preferred conduit which may include a heat exchanger. When the sea pump is inoperative, the ball moves downward within the cavity to unblock a drain passage and allow water to drain from the heat generating components of the marine engine.

Abstract: A bathtub plumbing system including a hand-held shower controlled by a compact pressure balanced, volume and temperature controlled mixing valve. The pressure-balancing valve is installed in a bathtub plumbing set having a hand-held shower accessory. The pressure balancing valve receives hot and cold water from hand-held shower water feed pipes coupled to the main hot and cold water inlet pipes, respectively, located upstream of the respective hot and cold water control valves used to supply water to the main faucet. The hand-held shower hot and cold feed pipes are each hydraulically connected to a first respective hot and cold water inlet of a compact pressure-balancing valve. The hand-held shower is hydraulically connected to the outlet of the pressure-balancing valve by a flexible hose. Hot and cold water entering the pressure-balancing valve is mixed therein independently of the hot and cold water supplied to the faucet.

  • Patent number: 6354617
Abstract: The invention relates to a level control arrangement for vehicles having air springs (6a) to (6d) and a pneumatically controllable directional valve (26). A residual pressure holding function and an overpressure function are integrated into the directional valve (26). The directional valve (26) is controlled by the air pressure in the air springs (6a) to (6d). The air pressure can be applied via a control line (20) to a control input (24) of the directional valve (26). The air from the air springs (6a) to (6d) is released with the aid of the venting line (28). The venting line (28) is guided separately from the control line (20) through the directional valve (26). In this way, a large air flow can be conducted through the venting line (28) without the static air pressure in the control space (50) of the directional valve (26) being reduced. The venting line is blocked by a stepped piston (44) of the directional valve when no air is to be released from the air springs.

  • Patent number: 5425394
Abstract: The invention relates to a shower control valve assembly which includes a casing mountable in a wall with inlets for hot and cold water. A cartridge is insertable into the casing in one of two orientations so that the hot water inlet of the cartridge can be aligned with either one of the casing inlets, depending on which one is the hot water inlet. The casing has two outlets, one for the shower and the other for the tub. There is an integral bypass which takes water from the tub outlet to the shower outlet upon activation of a diverter valve. The cartridge is of the pressure and temperature balancing type, with water of the desired temperature flowing to the tub outlet and then to the tub or shower as desired. Each water inlet in the cartridge includes a check valve which, in one position allows water to enter the cartridge, and in the other position prevents water from leaving the cartridge through the inlet.

Abstract: An apparatus and method are provided for preparing low concentration gas phase calibration standards. The flows of a standard mixture of impurity in a gas and a dilution gas are controlled by regulating the pressure upstream of respective calibrated orifices. The pressures of the gas flows are regulated such that a critical flow condition is maintained through the orifices. • Patent number: 5143111
Abstract: A system is described that combines two or more fluids in fixed proportions over a wide range of flow rates, in which said proportions are independent of the rate of flow of the fluids, by causing each of said fluids to experience a drop in pressure which is approximately proportional to said fluid flow. An important application of such a system is to serve as a fuel-oxidizer combiner for a combustion engine to provide a constant ratio of air to fuel over a wide range of engine power output. The invention is especially useful in controlling the ratio of air to natural gas in natural gas fueled engines, where the gas is stored at very high pressures and is normally reduced to atmospheric pressure before being mixed with the air in an air-gas mixer.

  • Patent number: 5016482
Abstract: Disclosed is a method for taking a constantly proportional flowing sample of gas flowing through a line and which is part of measuring and determining the total energy flow, that is, BTUs per minute, of combustible gas flowing through a line such as a pipeline. One method includes taking a continuous sample of the gas flowing through the line which sample is a constant proportion of the gas flowing through the line, and burning the sample in equipment which supplies air to the sample in an amount which maximizes its burning temperature. The flow rate of air which produces the maximum burning temperature of the sample is a flow rate which is directly proportional to the rate of energy flow in the main pipeline. Alternately, the flow rate of air which produces a stoichiometric mixture is directly proportional to the rate of energy flow in the main pipeline.

  • Patent number: 4987916
Abstract: A liquid flow control device (20) comprises a variable orifice (28/30) in a conduit (15), and branch lines (41, 42) above and below a flow restriction, which may be the variable orifice itself. The orifice is controlled to maintain a predetermined relation between the pressures (P.sub.1, P.sub.2) in the two branches. A metering valve (60) for a second liquid to be injected into the conduit may be controlled simultaneously to maintain a preset ratio between the flow coefficients of the valve and the orifice, so that if the pressures above and below the metering valve are the same as the pressures above and below the variable orifice, the respective flow rates will stay in the same proportion, and the proportion of second liquid injected into the liquid in the conduit will be constant at all flow rates.

  • Patent number: 4979530
Abstract: A valve housing is claimed which provides for diversion of fluid flow into a valve cartridge from a selected inlet through a selected outlet to the valve cartridge. An opening is provided in the housing in which the cartridge is located. The housing also has diverting mechanisms disposed between the cartridge and the fluid inlets. The diverting mechanisms may be adjusted to orient the fluid flow into the valve cartridge. For example, if an installer incorrectly installs the hot and cold water inlets to the housing, the diverting mechanism may be moved to provide the correct orientation of flow into the valve cartridge.
