  • Patent number: 9190675
Abstract: A component for reducing the likelihood of ice-related blockage in a fuel cell and methods for starting a fuel cell system. In one embodiment, the component is a separate insert configured with a sharp leading edge such that water droplets present in a reactant fluid that pass through an orifice in the component are conveyed away from an unstable formation at the edge to a more stable formation in an adjacent part of the component. In one form, the component is sized to fit within a valve inlet that in turn is placed in a humid reactant flowpath. In this way, when the fuel cell is operated in cold conditions—such as those associated with temperatures at or below the freezing point of water—the water droplets do not freeze in the area around the orifice such that ice-related blockage of the flowpath does not occur.

Abstract: A fitment for providing leak protection at a frost-free hydrant has a protective sheath having a bore of a first diameter. An escutcheon plate is formed at an outer end of the sheath to define an aperture for receiving a frost-free hydrant into the sheath. The sheath is made longer than any of a range of frost-free hydrants to be received therein and has an end cap sealingly connected to an inner end of the sheath. The end cap has a reducing section and an end section having a bore of a second diameter smaller than the first diameter, and dimensioned to receive a link pipe in a sealing connection, the link pipe being of a length to bridge the distance between an inner end of the hydrant and building water supply equipment. In use, the hydrant with link pipe attached is inserted into the protective sheath and the combination of the hydrant and sheath is fully into the wall through a hole in the wall.

Abstract: The present invention is designed to prevent damage to lined ponds during removal and placement of a suction/discharge hose. The fluid transfer protection sleeve is a conduit with a liquid port on one end and a hose port on the opposing end. The fluid transfer protection sleeve is comprised of an angled section, a vented body, and a solid walled section that are connected to create an interior channel from the hose port to the liquid port. The liquid port is located on the angled section. Upon insertion of the hose into hose port, the liquid is drawn in (or out) through the liquid port and vents, thus drawing (or discharging) water away from the bottom of the pond. Furthermore, the interior channel prevents the hose from coming into contact with liner and thus preventing damage.
