  • Patent number: 6202691
Abstract: An undersea hydraulic coupling has a bleed port for seawater external to the coupling to enter the bore of the female coupling member when the male member is partially withdrawn from the female member. A ring-shaped radial seal positioned between the coupling members allows fluid to enter through the bleed port and flow into the bore, while sealing against the flow of hydraulic fluid out of the coupling. The bleed port and ring-shaped radial seal provide for seawater to fill the vacuum between the coupling members when they are separated, thereby decreasing the separation force required.

  • Patent number: 6202692
Abstract: A device for connecting hydraulic lines to a second coupling muff (11) has a connector socket (13) to receive and fix a first hydraulic connector (24). The first hydraulic connector (24) has a first connector valve. The coupling muff (11) has a muff valve (12), and an actuating lever. The lever transfers the first muff valve (14) and the first connector valve into the open position when the first hydraulic connector (24) is fixed in the connector socket (13). A second hydraulic connector (27) is connected to an end of the coupling muff (11) remote from the connector socket (13). This device serves to connect a coupling muff, which is connected to a pressure source, to a hydraulic connector on the side of the load, even if the load side is pressurized in the disconnected state. The device is interconnected when such a load exists.

  • Patent number: 6199578
Abstract: A fluid container draining device (10) for use in draining a fluid container, such as an oil filter (12) in a controlled manner. It has a drill bit (14) with a sharpened tip (16) and exterior channels (20) on its shaft (18) extending from its tip (16) to a rear region (22). The drill bit (14) is immobilized in an axial bore (3) of a drill bit holder (24) which has a threaded front region (26) which is preferably frustum-shaped. Located rearwardly of the drill bit holder (24) is a valve (42) which when opened up permits fluid to be drained from the fluid container (12) through the channels (20) on the drill bit's shank (18), through the axial bore (30) in the drill bit holder (24), and out through the valve (42).

  • Patent number: 6192934
Abstract: A vapor recovery breakaway hose coupling for use in conjunction with a vapor recovery nozzle and for application within a fuel line, that prevents untimely decoupling, that incorporates a secondary seal that is located between the fuel and vapor passages to maintain clean o-ring sealing and sliding surfaces by preventing fuel and/or contaminates from contracting the primary fuel to vapor o-ring when the valve is in a non-emergency situation, an interference bump is incorporated which imparts a shock to the fuel check valve during separation and unbalanced check valve springs that maintains a static seal to reduce o-ring fretting, and primary fuel to vapor o-ring relocation.

  • Patent number: 6182695
Abstract: A coupler is provided which is mountable to a fitting of a breakaway coupling to facilitate assembly and disassembly of the coupling. The coupling has a first fitting and a second fitting which are held together by a ball in the first fitting which is received in a detent in the second fitting. The second fitting has an outer sleeve on which the detent is formed, and an inner sleeve slideable in the outer sleeve. A latch ring on the inner sleeve is alignable with the groove. A spring biases the inner sleeve and latch ring into a locking position in which the detent balls are urged into engagement with the detent to hold the two fittings together. The coupler includes an open ended housing having a side wall and an end wall. A plate, securable to the second fitting inner sleeve, is received in the coupler housing for axial movement. A cam on an outer surface of the housing end wall is connected to the plate by a rod.

  • Patent number: 6179002
Abstract: An undersea hydraulic coupling having a radial pressure-energized seal with a dovetail interfit is disclosed. The seal has a pair of flexible sealing surfaces for sealing with the male and female coupling members, and a cavity therebetween that is exposed to fluid pressure in the coupling. The outer circumference of the seal has a dovetail interfit between inclined shoulders in the female member bore and on a seal retainer that holds the seal in the bore.

  • Patent number: 6176263
Abstract: This invention relates to a circuit breaker for an installation handling pressurized fluid comprising an internal valve, at least one joint of substanially toroidal shape being disposed in an accommodating housing around said valve and/or a member for maneuvering the valve, characterized in that the housing is connected, via at least one fluid-circulation channel, to a counter-pressure zone formed downstream of the joint around the valve or the maneuvering member. During a transitory phase of opening of the valve, a preferential flow circuit of the fluid is arranged between the housing and the counter-pressure zone through the channel. Thanks to the counter-pressure exerted on the seal, the latter does risk being dislocated with respect to its housing.

  • Patent number: 6173742
Abstract: A hydraulic coupling for use in undersea drilling and production operations is disclosed, having a male member with radially extending projections or fins configured to be received in a female member having corresponding grooves in its receiving chamber. Relative rotation of the members urges the male member inwardly and preferably compresses axially a metal seal between the leading face of the male member and an internal shoulder. This preloads the seal before the coupling is pressured up with hydraulic fluid. The rotation of the male member may be done manually or by remote actuation.

  • Patent number: 6170522
Abstract: An improved self-sealing-type double tube joint which has a pair of tubular outer shell 11, 21, each of which having a tubular inner barrier wall 12, 22 fixed therein so as to form a double flow passage. The tubular barrier wall 22 in a male outer shell 21 is closed at front end 23 therof, and a side passage 24 connecting to the flow passage 1 is formed in a side wall of the tubular barrier wall. A male-side ring-like movable valve element 41 is slidably mounted on the tubular inner barrier wall 22 so that the valve element 41 shuts the side passage and faces against an end surface of a tubular barrier wall 12 of the female outer shell 11. A female-side ring-like movable valve element 51 is mounted on the inner tubular barrier wall 12 in the female outer shell 11 so as to face against an end surface of the male tubular outer shell 21.
