Abstract: A hose for use in bio-pharmaceutical applications includes an innermost tubular layer made from a fluoropolymer material. The tubular layer has an inner, relatively smooth and pure surface that defines an opening for transfer of various media. A layer of silicone is disposed next to an outer surface of the innermost tubular layer through use of, for example, an extrusion method. The outer surface of the tubular layer may first be modified by various treatments or chemicals to facilitate the adhesion of the silicone layer thereto. The silicone material may be solid or foamed. A reinforcement layer may be disposed adjacent to an outer surface of the silicone layer. The reinforcement layer may be formed of a wire braid having gaps. An outer jacket of silicone may be attached to the reinforcement layer and to the inner silicone layer through the gaps in the reinforcement layer.

Abstract: A pipe lining composition and a method for installing the pipe lining composition into a pipeline requiring repair is provided. The lining composition is a layered lining composite formed of alternating plies of felt and carbon fiber strand reinforcing such that layers of carbon fiber reinforcing strands are trapped between layers of felt. Once the composite is laid up the composite is preferably stitched to provide stability and to maintain the layers relative to one another and then formed into a tube. In accordance with the method, the lining tube is then sequentially filled resins of increasing viscosity as it is drawn through rollers in a manner that fully wets out the carbon fiber before it is placed into the pipe to be lined.

The composition can further contain a reinforcing agent, such as glass fibers, and a combination of an organosilane coupling agent and an impact modifier. It was discovered that the combination of the aminosilane coupling agent and the impact modifier substantially increased the low shear viscosity and melt strength of the composition without increasing the high shear viscosity of the composition. The increase in the low shear viscosity makes the composition particularly well suited to molding articles with a complex shape. When producing blow molded articles, for instance, the composition provides better control over wall thickness while having improved interior surface smoothness at higher throughput and extrusion rates.
