  • Publication number: 20100024922
Abstract: Apparatus for limiting the amount of debris that is disbursed in and around a disc type wood chipper when the disc is being treated with high pressure air. The apparatus includes a casing that surrounds the chipper disc having a stationary section and a removable section that can be detached from the stationary section to provide access to about 90° of the disc. A shield is hinged to the stationary section of the disc that has a vertical wall and an arcuate cover that can be moved over the exposed section of the disc which contains and directs debris in the chippers exhaust system when removed by high pressure air that is directed at the front face of the disc.

  • Patent number: 6817393
Abstract: An end-dogging head saw is disclosed comprising a log cradle for supporting a log, a log-turning device for rotating the log into proper alignment with a pair of band saws, the log-turning device depending from overhead log carriages which move the log into contact with the band saws, and a carriage drive for powering the overhead log carriages, whereby short logs can be quickly and efficiently processed. The invention also seeks to provide a method for using the apparatus, comprising rotation of a log through 360 degrees to allow for cutting at any desired angle along the length of the log. The method allows for maximal recovery of high-quality lumber.

  • Patent number: 5637068
Abstract: A saw changer for changing a saw assembly mounted on an arbor of a saw machine. A carrier is positioned for powered sliding movement axially along the saw assembly from a position under the arbor to a position free of the arbor. The carrier includes holders that are raised into position for holding the saw assembly and through powered axial movement of the carrier, for removing the saw assembly from the arbor. Upon removal, the saw assembly is lifted from the carrier and a replacement saw assembly is mounted on the carrier for placement onto the arbor.

  • Patent number: 4667713
Abstract: The present invention is a knife assembly for a chipping canter or a mechanically similar device. In its basic form it comprises four parts: a knife holder, a knife, a knife retaining pull down block, and a tapered draw bolt to tighten the assembly. The knife holder is constructed to engage a conventional seat in a chipper head segment. It has an arcuate front surface to receive the knife element. The knife element has a rib on its rear surface which has a dovetail or T-shaped flange. The pull down block is similarly configured with a female dovetail or T-slot to grasp the rib flange on the back of the knife holder. A tapered bolt is threaded into the knife holder and passes through a similarly tapered hole in the pull down block. As the bolt is screwed into the knife holder, the pull down block and encompassed knife element are drawn to the rear where they are tightly frictionally held against the knife holder.
