  • Patent number: 8240347
Abstract: A cutting board provides support to large pieces of wood during cutting or shaping. The cutting board supports a piece of wood across its surface area to prevent the wood from bending, cracking, or breaking as it is cut. This allows the wood to be cut accurately and safely by a single person. The cutting board may include a generally planar work surface and have one or more openings. The one or more openings may be configured to reduce weight, allow clamps to be easily installed, and allow sawdust to escape. The cutting board may be placed on a variety of supporting structures or surfaces. In one or more embodiments, the cutting board may be modular to allow a plurality of cutting boards to be connected together to form a larger work surface. Other materials may be cut or shaped on the cutting board as well.

Abstract: The present invention is for an improved pencil sharpener that is slidingly disposed about a pencil. The pencil sharpener comprises a cutting surface, a first arm pivotally mounted or connected with respect to a second arm, and a pencil receiving variable-sized aperture formed through the interior of the first arm and the second arm. The variable-sized aperture preferably alters in size and/or shape depending on the pivotal position of the first arm with respect to the second arm. The pencil receiving variable-sized aperture preferably forms a substantially conical channel when the first arm and the second arm are compressed inwardly for sharpening the pencil. In another position of the arms, the variable sized aperture permits the pencil to slide through the pencil sharpener.

  • Patent number: 6293320
Abstract: A precision multi-purpose machining apparatus for facilitating lathing, milling, drilling, sawing or routing operations typically using a rotary-type cutting tool. In a preferred embodiment the multi-purpose machining apparatus of this invention is characterized by an elongated support frame and a cutting tool mount cradle which is adjustably mounted on the support frame for receiving a cutting tool, such as an electric-powered DREMEL (trademark) rotary cutting tool. The support frame is capable of resting in a horizontal position, in which the cutting tool can be fitted with a cutting tool bit and the frame fitted with alternative workstock mounting attachments, to facilitate various lathing operations on a wooden or aluminum workstock. Alternatively, a saw table and saw blade can be removably mounted on the horizontal support frame and the cutting tool becomes a saw motor, the rotating shaft of which is connected to the saw blade by means of a drive belt, to facilitate various sawing operations.

  • Patent number: 6286571
Abstract: The invention relates to a method of sawing a log in order to provide a high yield of vertical-grained pieces of lumber. According to the invention, this is achieved by sawing from the log not only pieces of lumber which are triangular or sector-shaped in cross-section but also essentially plane-parallel boards between adjacent pairs of the pieces which are triangular or sector-shaped in cross-section.

  • Patent number: 6186200
Abstract: A method of manufacturing tiles from waste wood uses round crosscut wood slices, a binder, and a filler. The slices, all generally of a thickness, are placed on the flat bottom of a die within side walls. Adhesive is applied to the slices and the die is filled with a mixture of the binder and the filler. The die contents are hot pressed to achieve the required tile thickness. The tile is ejected from the die and then maintained at room temperature for not more than 72 hours. The face side of the tile is ground and the dimensions of the tile are brought within the required tolerances.

  • Patent number: 6095212
Abstract: A lumber production machine and method for processing lumber uses a pressure vessel that can accommodate untreated lumber and an injection pipe disposed in the pressure vessel that is capable of injecting saturated steam into the pressure vessel. A pressure gauge is operatively coupled to pressure vessel to determine the pressure inside the pressure vessel. There is a mechanism for setting a minimum and maximum pressure inside the pressure vessel. Solenoid valves control injection of saturated steam from the injection pipe into the interior of the pressure vessel. A controller opens the solenoid valves when the minimum pressure is reached and closes the solenoid valve when the maximum pressure is reached. The method includes pressurizing and heating the lumber products with saturated steam by varying the pressure to achieve a uniform temperature inside the lumber.

Abstract: A method for manufacturing a high strength lumber obtained by artificially compressing a volume of grown natural wood without any destruction of wood tissue, and which is made such that a pine tree is lumbered and exposed to a microwave whereby moisture content is forcibly discharged and cellulose is softened and thereby volume is constricted up to more than 70% by a hydraulic press during a latent heat is still present, so that a high strength lumber is obtained without any destruction of lumber tissue and due to this, a strength and hardness are improved about 30 times of original wood and a tensile strength is increased about up to 10 times of original wood.

Abstract: A casket comprises an outer structure, a tray and an insert. The tray is formed of corrugated fiberboard having a corrugation extending in a first direction, while the insert is formed of corrugated fiberboard having a corrugation extending in a second direction perpendicular to the first direction. The casket has either a full lid or a split lid, and the lid is either flat or optionally curved. The structural integrity of the casket is improved by provision of side wraps, end wraps and pads inserted between each end wall and its respective end wrap. Methods of constructing the various alternative casket lids are also disclosed. Components are made of wood, corrugated fiberboard and foam.

  • Patent number: 5722209
Abstract: A process for cutting out decorative, artistic designs, and the three-dimensioned decorative and artistic products produced thereby which are incorporatable into articles of manufacture. The process creates relief designs by angle cutting, at predetermined and variable cut-angles and predetermined and variable cut-widths. The decorative cut-out piece, cut from a base piece, is one-directionally removable and one-directionally insertable into the aperture created when the piece is cut from the base piece. The cut-out piece inserts into the corresponding aperture a distance which is determined by a combination of cut-angle and cut-width. The maximum cut-angle and the maximum cut-width is limited by the thickness of the base piece. The cut width is substantially equal to the saw blade cut width or the width of the cut produced by any appropiate cutting device.
