Abstract: A disposable toothbrush which includes a tubular housing forming a handle and a telescopically slidable brush head carrier mounted in the housing. The brush head carrier includes a brush head with tapered plastic bristles which have a central cup position therein to receive dentifrice. The brush head is pivoted to the carrier and forms a closure for the end of the tubular housing when in retracted position. A wedge-shaped member on the brush head retains it in optimum brushing position. A retaining projection on the brush head retains the brush head in optimum brushing position and a latch structure retains the carrier in extended relation to the tubular housing. The brush head includes a removable bristle assembly to enable multiple use cycles of the toothbrush.

Abstract: A hairbrush includes a shell having a bottom plate with perforations through which bristles may extend. A bristled plate is provided within the shell and arranged so that the bristles may extend through the perforations. A lever may be manipulated to restrain the bristled plate so that the bristles extend through the perforation or to retract the bristled plate so that the bristles are contained within the shell.

Abstract: A cosmetic applicator such as a lipbrush is provided with an actuator which includes a tab part locating in and extending outwardly of a slot formed in an applicator barrel. By the sliding of the tab between opposite extreme ends of the slot, a lipbrush element is retracted or extended from within the barrel.

Abstract: A disposable toothbrush for travelers, guests of business establishments, and others who need an inexpensive throwaway toothbrush. The toothbrush includes a handle which is folded in the shape of a small angular hollow book. A neck is integrally attached to the handle and folded thereon. A head with bristles is integrally attached to the top of the neck. When the head with bristles and neck are folded inside the hollow handle a compact inexpensive toothbrush is provided.

Abstract: A cosmetic applicator embodies two cosmetic applicator elements in a single barrel housing. One applicator element is slidably extendable from retracted position in the housing to extended use position wherein it is extended axially a distance from an opening at one end of the housing. The other applicator element rotatably is axially extended from retracted position in the housing to use position. The operating means by which each element is extended are located in the housing in such manner that the operating means associated with the said other element lies nested in the operating means associated with the first applicator element when that element is retracted. Thus, the length of the housing can be shortened and still accommodate both operating means since they occupy a common length extend in the housing. One applicator element can be a lipbrush and the other an eyeliner.

Abstract: A travel case for a tooth brush having a various shaped cases, rigidly attached to the case is a brush handle clip, the brush handle clip consisting of two opposing semi-rigid jaws with the entry side of each jaw rounded creating a narrow catch which opens to an open cavity, a bumper affixed to the case such that the bumper keeps the tooth brush from contacting the case in two directions, one surface of the bumper has a concave shape and the bumper is aligned with the centerline of the two jaws of the clip.

Abstract: A thin wall, U-shaped in cross-section, elongated cover is shaped to fit over the bristles and the bristle end of a toothbrush for covering and protecting the bristles. The free ends of the legs defining the U-shape of the cover, are provided with engaging formations for frictionally engaging the sides of the bristle carrying portion of the brush handle. The cover is formed of a springy plastic material so that the bristle carrying portion is resiliently clamped between the engaging formations of the legs. Thus, the cover may be manually applied upon and removed from the brush and will be tightly held upon the brush by the springy clamping action and the frictional engagement of the cover legs.

Abstract: A protective cap which is adapted to cover the bristles of a toothbrush grips around the handle adjacent the bristles and surrounds the portion of the handle supporting the bristles while covering the bristles. The new cap extends mainly on one side of the handle except for the neck portion which grips the handle adjacent the bristle and which can be released by angularly moving the cap relative to the handle. The cap is provided with peripheral apertures for allowing ventilation of the bristles.

Abstract: A toothbrush holder for training the bristles of a toothbrush into a preferred shape utilizes a pair of opposed cam surfaces to urge a pair of rigid compression members against the sides of the mass of bristles along a line at a predetermined height on the bristles. The resultant bristle structure is maintained by repeated storage of the brush in the holder between use.

Abstract: A brush includes a housing unit and a bristle plate disposed within the housing unit. The bristle plate has a plurality of parallel bristle elements projecting downward therefrom. A guide unit guides the bristle elements to move through the bristle holes of the housing unit. A resilient unit biases the bristle plate to move upward in the housing unit, so as to retract the bristle elements into the housing unit. A bristle-pushing member includes a generally inverted U-shaped body riding on the bristle plate, a rotating shaft provided on the body and journalled in the housing unit, a rotary lever connected securely to an end of the body, and a push lever connected securely to the other end of the body. Rotation of the rotary lever moves the bristle elements between an extension position and a retraction position.

Abstract: A retractable brush includes a hollow casing combined by a lower cover drilled with a bristles holes therein and an upper cover, a bristle base slidably held in the casing having a plurality of bristles formed on the base extendible outwardly from the lower cover for combining and brushing use, and a bristle extender having a push button slidably held in the upper cover which is depressed to push the brittle base downwardly in order to extend the bristles outwardly until being locked on the upper cover and upon a disengagement of the push button from the upper cover, the bristles will be retracted into the casing as restored by a restoring spring. Upon the extending of the bristles for combing or brushing operation, a water stream may also be applied through the hollow casing, the bristles holes to spray onto the hairs as being combed or brushed.

Abstract: In a hair curling rod having retractable bristles passing through apertures in a cylindrical body for winding up the hair and a device for directing a stream of heated air through the outlet apertures, the bristles or prongs are retractable independency on the temperature of the heated air stream. Preferably, the bristles are secured at one thereof to a movable support controlled by a temperature dependent element of a shape-memory alloy situated in the stream of heated air to expand or contract in response to predetermined temperatures.

Abstract: This invention relates to the field of oral hygiene. One embodiment comprises a spring clamp adapted for removable affixation to the bristles of a toothbrush, after it has been used, in a crucial region proximal the free ends of the brush bristles. A discovery and identification of the crucial area is claimed. A preferred embodiment is so designed that the impact area of the clamp on the brush is approximately 1/4 distance down from the free ends of the bristles. The clamp causes the bristles to be closely juxtaposed throughout the clamped area, while the bristles above the clamped area are permitted to flare outward, while the lower portion of the bristles below the clamp line form into a wedge-like configurtation, both of which shapes tend to move in opposite direction during the brushing action providing a resilient base of support for the flared upper portion.

Abstract: An external shell as herein a support for a cosmetic applicator element slidable between a retracted position and an extended position for use of the element. The support is connected to a first rack which extends parallel with the axis of the shell but which is offset in relation to this axis. The first rack meshes with a pinion free for rotation about a pin fixed to the external shell and extending substantially perpedicular to the axis of the shell. The pinion meshes with a second rack parallel to the first but diametrically opposed relative thereto in relation thereto the pin. The second rack is solid with a sleeve which is slidable in the shell and in which the support is slidable. The cosmetic element is, in its retracted position, entirely accommodated within the sleeve and in its position for use, projects at least partially out from the sleeve.

Abstract: The present invention entails a dual brush assembly specifically designed for cleaning both iron and wood type golf club heads. A small housing structure is provided and within that housing structure a pair of brushes are movably mounted. One brush is a relatively hard brush designed for brushing and cleaning the head of an iron type golf club. The other brush is a relatively soft brush and specifically designed for cleaning the head of a wood type golf club.

Abstract: An interdental toothbrush has a handle made from a mixture of a thermoplastic elastomer and a general purpose polypropylene. A twisted wire brush projects from the handle in axial alignment therewith. The toothbrush can be held within a loosely clasped fist, with one end of the brush held between a thumb and an index finger. By manipulating the thumb and index finger, the angle at which the brush projects may be changed at will. In this way, the insertion of the brush in more difficult to reach spaces in or around teeth is more easily performed.

Abstract: A body member has a lint brush projecting from one side thereof and a shoe polishing brush projecting from the other side thereof. Both brushes are enclosed by identical covers that are latched to the body member. The covers each have a projection at one end thereof that requires that the covers be mounted on the body member with these projections at opposite ends of the body member. The latches which secure the covers to the body members indicate which cover will be removed by which latch and comprise cantilevered fingers formed integral with the body member.

Abstract: A retractable brush in which the bristles can be retracted inside the brush body or extended therefrom by means of a bristle mounting member which is reciprocable inside the brush body and is movable between a retracted or extended position by means of a positional support member. The bristle mounting member is held in a preferred position by a locking means which automatically engages the positional support member when the bristles are extended. The positional support member is disposed such that the brush can be held and is readily actuable by one hand.

Abstract: A brush in which the individual bristles are arranged in clusters so that the bristles are parallel to one another and perpendicular to the brush body for improved gathering and aligning of hair without damage thereto. One embodiment also has a casing having a panel with a plurality of openings extending therethrough, a cradle member positioned within the casing carrying a plurality of elongate support members with thread-like monofilament bristles attached thereto. Each of the bristles extends into one of the openings in the panel in a close-fitting relationship. The embodiment also includes means to retract the bristles into the casing through the openings whereby the close fitting relationship between the openings and the monofilament bristles exert a scraping action to the bristles to clean them of any foreign matter adhering thereto.

Abstract: A cleaning implement for cleaning the bottom of a boat while the boat remains in the water comprising an elongate handle provided at one end with a buoyant cleaning head presenting a cleaning structure for contacting the bottom of the boat, when the cleaning head is submerged beneath the boat, so that the boat bottom can be cleaned by movement of the cleaning head over the boat bottom as a result of manipulation of the handle. The cleaning head may comprise a hollow stock into which water may be introduced to adjust the buoyancy of the cleaning head. The hollow stock may be provided with detachable cleaning devices which may be stored in the hollow stock when the implement is not in use.

Abstract: An adjustable brush is disclosed which includes a hollow cylindrical housing having a main channel coaxial with the cylindrical axis thereof and opening onto a working end of the housing. The brush further includes a plurality of filamentary bristles slideably mounted in the channel of the housing for projecting a workpiece contacting end out from the working end of the housing. The brush further includes a selectively adjustable bristle retaining mechanism mounted on the housing and mechanically engaging the plurality of bristles, for retaining the contacting end of the bristles at selected projecting positions with respect to the working end of the housing. In this manner, the contacting end of the bristles can be renewed by selectively adjusting the bristle retaining mechanism and cutting the bristles to the desired shape.

Abstract: A brush device comprising a plurality of tubular units arranged in alignment and a cap to construct a column externally sealed by a sealing coat. The front end of each unit is provided with a brush head, and the portion around the brush head and the rear end of each unit respectively form the male part and female part of a socket joint, the male part being slightly longer than the female part, thus forming a slot at the junction of two adjacent units radially extending around the periphery of the column, which slot provides a guide to facilitate one to make a cut around this portion to remove an exhausted unit.

Abstract: A compact hair brush particularly suitable for traveling. A flat housing is provided with a plurality of rows of transversely mounted bristles. Each row of bristles is individually mounted on a pivoted bar. A longitudinal operating rod pivotally connects to each bar above the pivot point. Longitudinal movement of the bar causes a 90.degree. pivotal movement of the bars. A manually engageable portion of the rod extends out of the housing for operating the rod. After the housing is opened to expose the bristles, the rod is operated to pivot the bars and cause the bristles to stand up in vertical operating position. The brush is now ready for use. Reversely, the rod is operated to pivot the bars and cause the bristles to lie flat in the housing. This permits closing the substantially flat housing. The construction lends itself to many variations in the housing. The manually engageable rod may be positioned in various portions of the housing depending on the design used.

Abstract: A self-cleaning brush comprises a body member having a hollow interior compartment and an anterior wall provided with a number of spaced apertures through which the bristles of the brush can project. A bristle supporting member, including a brush head to which the bristles are affixed, is located within the hollow compartment and has a brush head operating member attached to its upper surface which projects through an opening in a posterior wall. The brush head operating member is movable reciprocably within the hollow compartment from a first position, in which the bristles project through registering apertures in the anterior wall, to a second position, where the bristles are fully retracted within the brush body. The retraction of the bristles through the apertures in the anterior wall allows for easy removal of hair or debris from the bristles. The brush head operating member may be locked in any desired position by means of a reciprocable lever member which extends from the brush body.

The illustrated display card has a foldable tab extending into a hanger hole in the handle.

Abstract: A phonograph record cleaner having a pair of soft pile covered projections extending downwardly from a cleaner body with a still brush and a soft brush also extending downwardly between the projections. During cleaning of a record, the cleaner is oriented so that the stiffer brush precedes the softer brush, and the pile covered projections properly locate the ends of the brush bristles relative to the record surface. The stiffer bristles are longer than the softer bristles, while the softer bristles of the shorter length are more densely packed than the stiffer bristles. Indicia on the cleaner body allows the cleaner to be hand held and properly oriented during use. Both of the brushes project downwardly through openings in a hollow lower member of the cleaner body and have retainers that limit the downward movement through the openings.

Abstract: The invention relates to a disposable toothbrush device having two elements. The first element comprises a brushing member including (i) a brushing head having flexible bristles therein, (ii) a shaft carrying the brushing head at one end thereof, (iii) an attachment means affixed to the remaining end of said shaft remote from the brushing head, and (iv) a plurality of ribs provided on the shaft adjacent the brushing head for reinforcement of shaft to render the shaft relatively rigid with respect to the bristles. Abstract: An adjustable sleeve for artists' paint brush adapted to adjust the effective length of the hair or bristles. The adjustable sleeve is tubular at its tip to contain the hair or bristles and which is split above the tip to provide a spring biased grip upon the brush ferrule. The adjustable sleeve is tapered in substantial conformity with the taper of the ferrule and it is longitudinally adjustable relative to the ferrule to vary the effective length of the hair or bristles.

Abstract: A lineal slide retractable grooming brush consisting of a brush housing provided with a plurality of bristle openings in the bottom thereof and having a slide actuator control peg access slot along each side thereof. A bristle brush back plate member having a plurality of downwardly extending bristles is provided within the housing so that the bristles are in register with the bristle openings in the bottom of the brush housing. The bristle brush back plate member is provided with cam follower pins extending outwardly from each side thereof. A U-shaped slide actuator is slidably mounted within the brush housing so as to straddle the bristle brush back plate member in such a manner that the cam follower pins thereof slidably engage ramped cam grooves provided in the inside surface of the side walls of the slide actuator. The slide actuator is provided with control pegs which extend outwardly from the sides thereof through the control peg access slots provided in the sides of the brush housing.

Abstract: There is provided a collapsible brush structure comprised of a body portion, a bristle bed movable in the longitudinal direction of the body, a plurality of bristles being set in the bristle bed, and means for moving the bristle bed between first and second positions whereby the bristles are in an erect condition and a flattened condition respectively. A feature of the structure is the provision of rotatable guide means through which the bristles pass, the guide means functioning to clean the bristles whenever they are moved from the erect condition to the flattened condition. The brush structure is a very compact one and can easily be carried in a pocket of the user.

Abstract: This invention relates to retractable brushes, of the general type having bristles which can be retracted into the casing of the brush, or moved outwardly from the casing into the position at which the bristles are used. Wiping flaps are provided on a retractable brush to engage and wipe the bristles as they are extended and retracted through the openings in the front wall of the brush. The wiping flaps may take the form of a thin membrane extending across each of the openings and formed with slits. The brush may be arranged to be extended and retracted by producing relative rotation between the front and rear members of the brush. To assist in securing the front and rear members together, a detent connection may be provided between one of the members and an axial post connected to the other member. Detent elements may also be provided between the front member and cam members which are provided on the rear member.

Abstract: A combined toothbrush whistle having a bristle portion and a shaft with a cover adapted to fit over the slide relative to the shaft. The cover has an opening in the cover wall for producing musical notes and a sheath located at one end of the cover for covering the bristle portion.

Abstract: This invention relates to an accessory for a tooth brush, which is intended to be attached to the head of the tooth brush when not in use, so as to cooperate with the bristles to deflect them towards each other from a splayed-apart condition. In one embodiment, the accessory is formed from a plastics material, and includes a channel member defining a longitudinally extending channel dimensioned to receive at least the bristles of the tooth brush head. The inner side surfaces of the channel, which may be convergent, cooperate with at least the regions of the bristles adjacent the tips thereof to press them together.

A scraper element is disposed in the space between the mandrel and the outer surface of the base. The outer portion of the base houses the scraper blade. A reamer extends from and above the base and a cap is provided removably connected to the base and covers the reamer. The cap has a ribbed surface to provide a friction surface which is engaged by the hand for operating the scraper. The base is ribbed and provides a friction surface for the hand when the cap is removed, for performing a reaming operation.
