Rotary Patents (Class 15/230)
  • Patent number: 8082618
Abstract: A cloth-type vehicle laundering implement includes a support mechanism consisting of a rotatable drive shaft and a plurality of generally parallel, adjacently arranged spacers mounted on the support mechanism. Each of the plurality of spacers includes a first face and a second face. The implement includes a plurality of individual circular fabric disk elements disposed between the first face of one of the plurality of spacers and the second face of another of the plurality of spacers. Each of the plurality of individual circular fabric disk elements extends outwardly beyond the spacers. Each of the individual circular fabric disk elements consists of a single piece of non-woven material having an inner diameter and an outer diameter. The inner diameter is retained in a single plane by a securing mechanism such that more material is located adjacent the inner diameter than the outer diameter to provide a more rigid element.

Abstract: A composite pad includes an outer pad portion having a surface with a firmness, stiffness or abrasiveness, and an inner pad portion disposed on or in the outer pad portion, the inner pad portion having a surface with a firmness, stiffness or abrasiveness which is greater than that of the outer pad surface. The backside of the composite pad preferably includes a hook-and-loop or other mechanism for attachment to a tool such as an orbital polisher. The inner portion may used to remove larger scratches left from sand paper (or other abrasives) then, without removing the pad, the polisher tool may be tilted relative to the surface enabling the outer portion to buff the area and remove any swirl marks. The surface of the inner pad may be raised relative to the surface of the outer pad, flush or recessed. In the preferred embodiments the various pad portions are made of foam material such as polyurethane.

  • Patent number: 7906051
Abstract: Selected surfaces of a cellular polymeric foam surface finishing pad are heated to cause the surface cells to partially collapse or to fully collapse and glaze over. The selected surfaces may be the planar pad faces or may be formed in one or more depressions formed in the planar faces. The areas of partially collapsed cell structures in the operating face of the pad provide a slow down in the rate of polish or compound absorption, increasing the effectiveness of the finishing process. The fully collapsed cell glazed surface on the rear attachment face of the pad prevents the migration of moisture through the pad to the pad attachment mechanism.

Abstract: A composite paint roller is provided for improving ease of cleaning, manufacture and adaptability of the same. The roller comprises an elongate cylindrical core, a sheath, and first and second end caps. The sheath is removably mountable about and frictionally engageable to the core. The core defines a core length and opposing open ends. The sheath defines an axial length and opposing sheath ends. The axial length of the sheath is greater than the core length with the opposing sheath ends being foldable and axially insertable into the opposing open ends to produce a radial compression of the sheath adjacent the opposing open ends. The radial compression creates opposing beveled ends of the roller. The first and second end caps each are attachable to the opposing open ends to secure the opposing sheath ends within the opposing open ends.

  • Publication number: 20100125966
Abstract: A floor care disk for a floor care machine such as a floor polishing machine includes a floor care pad mounted on a drive plate. The drive plate includes a stiff disk element and tongue-like tabs connected flexibly to a radially outer portion or rim of the disk element, and extending radially inwardly toward a radially inner portion or hub of the disk element. The radially inner free ends of the tongue-like tabs are free to flexibly deflect away from the plane of the disk element. The pad is mounted on the tabs and on the radially outer portion of the disk element. During rotational operation of the floor care disk, due to the arising centrifugal force acting on the center of mass of the rotating pad and tongue-like tabs, the pad and the tongue-like tabs are flexibly deflected away from the disk element and toward the floor surface, thereby deflecting the pad into osculating contact with the floor surface.

Abstract: A power operated brush or buff and method includes a plurality of brush or buff rolls mounted on a drive arbor. End caps provide a torque connection between the ends of the outermost rolls and the drive arbor while a bridge ring provides a torque connection between the adjoining ends of the rolls. The rolls, end caps and bridge rings are formed of a plastic material for ease of assembly and disassembly. The rolls are extruded with an interior spline while the end caps and bridge rings are provided with a short exterior spline section to form the torque connection.

  • Patent number: 6651286
Abstract: A quick disconnect hub which is secured to the motor drive shaft receives a high pitch threaded pad driver disk to which a burnishing pad is mounted. The hub includes a conically tapered surface, as does the driver disk for centering. A spring-loaded locking pin extends between the burnishing motor and selectively locks the drive hub against rotation for removal of the driver disk by rotating approximately one or two times, thus allowing the removal of the pad driver from the motor and allowing the centered mounting of the burnishing pad to the driver remote from the machine. In a preferred embodiment of the invention, an interlock switch is coupled to the spring-loaded locking pin such that, when the hub is locked against rotation for removal of the driver disk, the switch prevents inadvertent activation of the motor when the hub is locked.

Abstract: Provided is an inexpensive roller brush for painting, which has good paint holdability and good paint releasability and of which the brush face is smooth and homogeneous. Using the roller brush, the painted face is good and its quality is high. The roller brush is fabricated by covering a paint-impervious roll core with a paint holder of a fibrous circular material that contains conjugate fibers comprising a high-melting-point polymer component A and a low-melting-point polymer component B. In this, the fibrous circular material contains thermal-fusing conjugate fibers and at least a part of the fibers are fused to form a porous structure.

Abstract: A buffing pad assembly having a right pad, a left pad, a disk securing the two pads together, and an elongated member for releasably attaching the buffing pad to the drive shaft of a buffing motor is disclosed. Each pad has a central aperture. The disk has a connector located in the center thereof. The connector has an opening therethrough. The right and left pads are secured to first and second faces, respectively, of the disk so that the apertures and opening are aligned when the buffing pad is assembled. The elongated member has a body, a head, and an indented area separating the head and the body. The head fits through either of the apertures and through the opening of the connector. The elongated member also has an open end which may be secured to the spindle of a buffing motor.

Abstract: An elongated pile sub-assembly having a support beam for attachment to a plurality of yarn bundles. Each of the yarn bundles attached to the beam have a pile end and a root end for anchoring the elongated pile sub-assembly. The root ends can also entangle its loose fibers for added anchoring support of the elongated pile sub-assembly. A guide assembly is used to form a rooted tuftstring article such as a brush or flooring article therefrom. The elongated pile sub-assembly may be used alone to make a brush or a pile or bristle surface structure such as a floor covering, a wall covering or an automotive component, or may be arranged with other elongated pile articles and attached to a backing substrate, as when used to make up a pile or bristle surface structure. A brush or pile surface structure may be fabricated from an elongated pile sub-assembly alone, or from the pile sub-assembly together with a brush body member or a backing substrate.
