Patent number: 5769984Abstract: One aspect of the invention comprises a method of assembling an optical pellicle including a pellicle frame and a pellicle membrane in which adhesive is first applied to the pellicle frame, and then solvent in the adhesive is permitted to evaporate. Solvent is then applied to the adhesive on the pellicle frame, and the pellicle membrane is mounted onto the adhesive on the pellicle frame. Normally the step in which solvent is permitted to evaporate involves baking the frame with the adhesive thereon at an elevated temperature. Also, it is normal that as soon as the solvent is applied to the adhesive on the pellicle frame, once the adhesive feels tacky, the pellicle membrane is mounted in place. An additional step to this process involves generation of heat in the pellicle membrane and the adhesive after the membrane is mounted to the adhesive on the pellicle frame, to further bond the membrane to the frame.Type: GrantFiled: February 10, 1997Date of Patent: June 23, 1998Assignee: Micro Lithography, Inc.Inventors: Yung-Tsai Yen, Qoang Rung Bih

Patent number: 5741383Abstract: This invention relates to a process for bonding a vehicle window to a vehicle flange comprising the sequential steps of:a) applying a liquid masking composition to a vehicle flange,b) painting the vehicle, and drying or curing the liquid masking composition sufficiently to form a strippable mask;c) removing the mask from the flange; andd) adhesively bonding the vehicle window to the vehicle flange. Such a masking process advantageously eliminates the need for the use of solvent-based primers normally used to prime a painted vehicle flange, and provides a mask which is more easily applied and removed from the flange than masking means which initially comprise a solid substance.Type: GrantFiled: August 18, 1992Date of Patent: April 21, 1998Assignee: Essex Specialty Products, Inc.Inventor: Andrew R. Patent number: 5704173Abstract: A flush-mounted articulated window assembly for use in a vehicle, the window assembly adapted to be mounted in a window opening such that, when closed, it is generally flush with the exterior surface of the vehicle. The window assembly includes a transparent sheet with at least one window-mounting member bonded by two separate adhesives to an inner surface of the sheet. The mounting member includes projections which space the mounting member from the inner sheet surface, and/or perforations which allow air and moisture to reach the space provided between the mounting member and the inner sheet surface. A first adhesive temporarily fixtures the mounting member to the sheet. A second adhesive permanently bonds the mounting member to the inner sheet surface. The bond created is sufficiently strong such that application of a load sufficient to cause a failure results in a failure other than in the adhesion of the adhesive to the mounting member and the panel.Type: GrantFiled: June 6, 1996Date of Patent: January 6, 1998Assignee: Donnelly CorporationInventors: R. Patent number: 5645667Abstract: A method is utilized in which, when approaching the corner, a nozzle is rotated from a position with a nozzle slot positioned essentially transversely with respect to the longitudinal direction of the edge strip section in the direction of a position with a nozzle slot positioned in parallel to the median line of the corner area and, during the subsequent removal from the corner, continuously in the direction of a position with a nozzle slot positioned essentially transversely to the longitudinal direction of the present edge strip section. As a result, an edge strip, which has no interruptions and is acute-angled in the corner areas conforming to the surface, can be applied in one operation. The method can be employed, for example, in applying an adhesive bead to a vehicle window pane to be glued into a vehicle body opening.Type: GrantFiled: February 2, 1996Date of Patent: July 8, 1997Assignee: Mercedes-Benz AGInventor: Michael Kusen
