  • Patent number: 5957391
Abstract: A self cleaning drip irrigation hose comprising an elongated strip of plastic film folded longitudinally to form first and second overlapping longitudinal margins. A first longitudinal bead partially seals the overlapping margin. A second longitudinal bead outboard of the first bead partially seals the overlapping margins. The first and second beads have a repeating longitudinal pattern that forms a flow regulating channel and opposing inlets spaced along the length of the first and second beads. Outlets from the flow regulating channel to the exterior of the hose are spaced from the inlets to create a pressure drop across the flow regulating channel. A third longitudinal bead outboard of the second bead completely seals the overlapping margin. The second and third beads form a water access channel to the inlets in the second bead such that the inlets in the first bead when plugged are back flushed by water flow through the inlets in the second bead.

  • Patent number: 5137057
Abstract: A flexible duct adapted to be suspended from a support and method of making same. The duct comprises a conduit of heat-sealable plastic film having a longitudinally extending fin on the conduit for suspending the conduit. The fin comprises first and second face-to-face layers of heat sealable film. The fin includes spaced apart reinforced regions which are adapted for engagement with fasteners for suspending the conduit. The reinforced regions comprise portions of the first and second layers which are heat-sealed together. According to the method, a duct is made from an elongate tube of flexible heat sealable material. The sidewall of the tube is joined to itself along a longitudinal line to define a first relatively larger tube forming a longitudinally extending conduit, and a second relatively smaller tube forming a longitudinally extending double-walled fin for suspending the duct.

  • Patent number: 5123984
Abstract: In a high speed method and apparatus for forming inlet and/or outlet ports in drip irrigation hose, the surface of one margin of a continuous length of plastic film is deformed without puncturing at periodic intervals along its length corresponding to the locations of the inlet and/or outlet ports to form protrusions from the film surface. Thereafter, the protrusions are severed from the film to form the ports. The remainder of the hose is made in a conventional fashion. Preferably, the film surface is deformed by directing the film through the nip of pair of rotating wheels. On the surface of one of the wheels is a series of blunt projections sized, shaped and positioned to correspond to the ports being formed. The protrusions are severed by the edge of a knife across which the film is directed.

  • Patent number: 4950345
Abstract: A back-up pad is provided over an anvil surface of a back-up plate, and between the anvil surface and a sealing surface of a sealing die, in an apparatus for forming seals between layers of film material. The back-up pad has a slip surface on one side thereof and a spring surface on an opposite side thereof, the slip surface opposing the sealing face of the die so that the layers of film material pass between the sealing die and the back-up pad during seal formation. The spring surface is comprised of a plurality of outwardly extending resilient spring loops that act against the back-up plate during seal formation, the spring loops resiliently urging the layers of film material against the sealing face to effect seal formation between the film layers while cushioning the film layers to prevent damage to the film layers due to drag between layers and the die face.

  • Patent number: 4929409
Abstract: Method in manufacturing a heat insulated tube includes a tube (17) for conducting fluid and a sheath (12) enclosing said tube, a heat insulating material (15) being disposed between the fluid tube and the sheath. The sheath is being extruded in an angle extruder die (10) while the fluid tube and the heat insulating material enclosing said tube are being fed axially through the angle extruder die as the sheath is being extruded around the heat insulating material. Then the sheath (12) extruded from the angle extruder die is kept spaced from the heat insulating material (15) enclosing the fluid tube (17), over an initial length of the axial movement thereof up to chains of chill molds (13) for imparting to the sheath a corrugated shape by forming the sheath against the chains of chill molds under the influence of negative pressure. The invention also relates to a device in extruders having an angle extruder die (10) for the manufacture of the heat insulated tube.

  • Patent number: 4904323
Abstract: Making jacketed pipe using metal strip coated with a plastic coating compatible with the jacket material. After the strip is formed into tube by turning over longitudinal edges of the strip, the jacketing material is then extruded onto the tube under an extrusion pressure insufficient to cause tube collapse. This is conveniently done by the known "tubing" process. Subsequent to the extrusion step, the jacket material is subjected to radial inward pressure also insufficient to cause tube collapse. This pressure reduces the outside diameter of the jacket and presses it against the coating on the tube. The inward pressure step is performed while residual heat from extrusion remains at the inner surface of the jacket to fuse the jacket to the plastic coating. Inward pressure is preferably applied by a polishing die.

  • Patent number: 4869765
Abstract: A process is disclosed for the production of bobbins suitable for use in voice coils. A bobbin tape is gradually rolled into a cylindrical shape around a mandrel having a circular cross-section while feeding the bobbin tape along the longitudinal axis of the mandrel, whereby both longitudinal edges of the bobbin tape are brought into an opposing relationship. Plural shape-retaining tapes are caused to adhere on the thus-rolled bobbin tape at intervals equal to the length of each of the bobbins without covering coil-winding portions, so that both longitudinal edges of the bobbin tape are maintained in the opposing relationship. The resultant bobbin tape is then cut at intervals equal to the length of each of the bobbins from the leading end of the bobbin tape while leaving at least one shape-retaining tape on the side of the trailing end of the bobbin tape. The cutting may also be performed at intervals equal to the total length of plural ones of the bobbins to provide continuous bobbin stocks.

  • Patent number: 4834822
Abstract: Of two edges (14, 16) to be joined together of a multilayer foil, the inner edge (16) is obliquely trimmed in the longitudinal direction prior to the pressing together in such a way that the layer (6) located remote from the surfaces (10, 12) to be pressed together protrudes beyond the other layers. If the two layers (14, 16) are pressed together during the welding operation by means of two tool elements, not shown, then the inner layer (6) of the inner edge (16) overflows so as to form one uninterrupted layer with the inner layer (6) of the outer edge (14). When the foil is used as packaging material, in particular as a tubular liner for a packaging tube, it is assured that the product to be packaged will come into contact only with the inner layer (6), so that an undesirable reaction with one of the other layers is avoided.
