Abstract: An adhesive strip can adhere to objects and to a surface such as a surface in a vehicle passenger compartment to support the object within reach of the passengers. The adhesive strip is removable from the surface and provides a mechanism for folding the adhesive back so that the adhesive is covered and not free to attach unintentionally to objects or surfaces after removal from the initial surface. A method for using the strip allows the strip to be used to adhere objects to surfaces and then avoid adhering unintentionally after removal to other objects and surfaces. A method for making the adhesive strips is provided. A device for making the adhesive strips is provided.

  • Patent number: 7842021
Abstract: Absorbent articles with waist seals are disclosed. The seals are formed from folded stacks, discrete segments, or pleated material arranged to provide a resiliently compressible seal that can be located at one or more locations within the absorbent article, e.g., along a central portion of the rear waist region of a diaper. The seals may be constructed from relatively thin materials that (through folding, stacking, pleating, etc.) can provide a resiliently compressible seal that is thick enough and appropriately shaped to conform to the wearer's anatomy well enough to provide the desired sealing. At the same, time, the continuous web material used to form the seal is preferably thin enough to be economically delivered to the manufacturing line in roll form. The seals may be provided in the form of compressed seals that expand when one or more openings are formed in a sealed cavity containing compressed resilient material.

Abstract: The present invention provides a process wherein a rotary knife or die, with one or more cutting edges, turns against and in coordination with a corresponding cylinder to create preferably trapezoidal ears. Ear material is slit into two lanes, one for a left side of a diaper and the other for a right side of a diaper. Fastening tapes are applied to both the right and the left ear webs. The ear material is then die cut with a nested pattern on a synchronized vacuum anvil. The resulting discrete ear pieces however, due to the trapezoidal pattern of the ears, alternate between a correct orientation and an incorrect (reversed) orientation. The reversed ear is required to be rotated 180° into the correct orientation such that the ears and associated tape present a left ear and a right ear on the diaper.

Abstract: An elastically stretchable disposable wearing article has a front waist region, a rear waist region and a crotch region. This wearing article is formed with a first elastic zone, a second elastic zone and third elastic zones respectively exhibiting stretch stress adjusted to be decreased in this order. An elastically stretchable web is continuously fed in a machine direction, formed with pairs of slits in desired patterns so that two slits constituting each of the pairs may be symmetrically laid about a transversely middle zone of the web and then folded in a cross direction orthogonal to the machine direction so that the web may be alternately overlapped on itself about the transversely middle zone to form the wearing article.

Abstract: In a process for making disposable diapers, a first web is continuously fed in its longitudinal direction. Tape fastener members extending in the longitudinal direction are fed to the first web so as to straddle respective lines corresponding to the side edges of the respective backsheets. Each of the tape fastener members has its longitudinally opposite end portions folded in a Z-shape or an inverted Z-shape. Top sections of these Z-shape and inverted Z-shape are coated on their undersides with a first self adhesive and bottom sections of these Z-shape and inverted Z-shape are coated on their undersides with a second self-adhesive. The tape fastener member is bonded to the first web by means of the second self-adhesive. The first web and the tape fastener members are simultaneously cut along the lines.

  • Patent number: 7056403
Abstract: An apparatus for applying weft yarns in a cross direction to warp yarns assembled on a beam in parallel aligned relationship and having an adhesive scrim thereon includes a supply roll of the warp yarns on such a beam which are fed downstream of the apparatus by first laying the warp yarns onto a transfer belt to reduce the tension in the yarns and controlling them for application of the weft yarns. A transfer belt and warp yarns are first folded between folding bars into a cylindrical configuration where they are formed around the perimeter of an elongated mandrel having a heated section at its upstream end and a cooling section at its downstream end. The adhesive scrim is softened as the warp yarns pass over the heated section of the mandrel and shortly thereafter, weft yarns are wrapped around the warp yarns and the supporting transfer belt within a rotating tube having a plurality of longitudinally and circumferentially spaced spools of weft yarn disposed on its outer surface.

Abstract: A method of manufacturing a disposable undergarment includes moving a web of body panel material in a longitudinal machine direction and cutting the web of body panel material along the longitudinal machine direction to thereby form a rear body panel web and a front body panel web each having a maximum rise and a minimum rise respectively. The maximum rise of each of the rear and front body panel webs is greater than the minimum rise of a corresponding one of the rear and front body panel webs. The method further includes shifting at least one of the rear and front body panel webs in the longitudinal machine direction and thereby aligning the maximum rises of the rear and front body panel webs. The method further includes separating the rear and front body panels in a lateral cross direction, such that the maximum rises of each of the rear and front body panel webs are spaced apart in the lateral cross direction and form a gap therebetween in a non-overlapping relationship.

  • Patent number: 6843873
Abstract: The present invention relates to a gelatinous composite article. The article has a first and a second heat formable and heat reversible gelatinous elastomer material, a first permeable layer, and a control gap. Each of the gelatinous materials is a three-dimensional shape having an upper side, a base side and at least one connecting side. The first connecting side and the second connecting side are adjacent to each other so the first and second materials are essentially side-by-side within the same horizontal plane. The first permeable layer has a top side and a bottom side. The top side attaches to the first and second connecting side. The control gap is interspaced between the bottom side of the first permeable layer. This gap degrades the rigidity between each connecting side and provides an equivalent structural property throughout the article.
