Both of the first and second tape application heads have hollow inner cores which communicate with a source of negative air pressure to draw a vacuum in each tape application head which causes a strip of wire tape to adhere to the outer surfaces of the application heads. One of the application heads is brought into contact with a plurality of wires guided across the head, while the second application head rotates around a common axis shared by the two heads, whereby each of the first and second application heads generally oppose each other and apply the strip of tape to the wires.

Then silicone release material is applied in a second strip on the second face of the web of label material so that the second strip is adjacent, but spaced from, the first strip and substantially parallel to it, a line of demarcation (about 1-25 mm wide) provided between the first and second strips, and each strip is at least about one inch wide. Then the label material is folded (e.g. plow folded while on a Webtron press) about the line of demarcation so that the first and second strips come into face-to-face contact with each other.

After spraying and drying, all solvents are removed by air circulating in an oven. The thus-sprayed fabric is then passed through apparatus which simultaneously heats and compresses the fabric to greatly reduce its thickness to form a sheet in which the entrained metal particles are brought into intimate contact with each other, thereby to impart conductivity to the fabric sheet.

The chassis from which the unitary disposable garment is manufactured, has four elasticized ear flaps; each ear flap is elasticized by securing an elastomeric element thereto and mechanically stretching the ear flap and the elastomeric element such that the ear flap is elastically extensible in the direction of initial stretching. The front portion of the chassis is then joined to the rear portion of the chassis on each side of the disposable garment by a seam.

A tie can be fastened around the compacted, pleated sheet to hold the pleats in a gathered state. The tied sheet is removed from between the plates and ends of the gathered pleats are fanned out on at least on side of the tie. Apparatus for pleating the sheet and compressing the pleats is disclosed.

    Abstract: A method for forming a strong and flexible bond between two plastic fabric layers requires the controlled use of an ultrasonic welding apparatus. Control of the time ultrasonic energy is delivered to the two overlapped plastic fabric layers, and of the pressure placed upon those layers during that time, is exercised to ensure that no melting of the yarns from which the two fabric layers are woven occurs. Rather, the yarns are softened by the application of ultrasonic energy, and are compressed together between the horn and an anvil to force them to adhere to one another. After the ultrasonic energy is turned off, compression is maintained while the overlapped plastic fabric layers cool and harden. A strong, flexible bond, suitable for operation as a seam for an endless belt, is obtained.

A first series of patches of a hot melt type pressure sensitive adhesive are applied to one side of a double-sided release strip. The release strip is then placed against the central portion of the absorbent article so that the first adhesive patches bond to the central portion. A second series of patches of the adhesive are applied to the other side of the double-sided release strip and tabs are folded over the central portion so that the second adhesive patches bond to the tabs. Since the release strip has been coated with a release agent, such as silicone, on both of its sides, the first and second patches of adhesive bond to the central portion and the tabs, respectively, with greater tenacity than they did to the release strip. When the user removes the release strip prior to use, the first and second adhesive patches remain on the central portion and the tabs.

    Abstract: Pile weatherstripping having rows of pile sandwiching a fin is fabricated so as to precisely locate the height of the fin with respect to the height of the pile. A travelling endless band receives webs providing the fins on opposite sides thereof with the edge of each web, which defines the height of the fin, precisely positioned on a side of the band and the other edge overhanging the edges of the band. Alignment of the webs on the band is provided either by an aligning fixture or by coining the webs to provide lines of indentations which index the webs at the edges of the band. The yarn which forms the pile is wound around the webs and the band and serves to wrap the overhanging portions of the webs around the band, or a guide may be used to facilitate wrapping of the webs around the band, prior to winding of the yarn. Backing strips are attached, as by ultrasonic welding, along the edges of the band. Then the yarn is slit without cutting into the webs.

    Abstract: A closing method for a multi-sided paperboard carton includes sealing a cover with side edge extensions to corresponding side flanges defined by fold lines on the paperboard carton during continuous feeding of the carton along the feed path. The side flanges of the carton body are bent downward during continuous feed movement with a force sufficient to cause the flanges to fold and remain free and below a plane passing through the fold line when released. The cover is placed on the carton to lie substantially in a plane and with the edge extensions overlying the flanges. A hot air stream is directed into the half-V gap presented between each flange and associated cover side edge extension to activate an adhesive coating and the flanges are pressed against the cover for sealing. The carton is carried through the bending stage in a die having an open bottom cavity and forming blades on its side edges that engage the fold line between the side flanges and the carton side panels from below.

The process comprises the steps of applying a first adhesive component, which is preferably a cyanate ester and an epoxy, to a first group of peaks and applying a second adhesive component, which is preferably the epoxy and a catalyst, to a second group of peaks. The structure is then stacked so that the first adhesive component on the first group of peaks comes into contact with the second adhesive component on the second group of peaks, thereby mixing the components to bond the half-cell structure together and form the honeycomb core.

Next, one removes a portion of the ends of the support core without removing the paint-roller pad extending over the support core to leave a paint roller with an unsupported free pad end that is folded over the end of the core of the paint roller to provide full corner painting abilities. Manufacturing costs are saved since anti-warpage backing sheets need not be face laminated to substantial areas of the folder sheet. Also, the plastic envelope sold to the user before lamination is not bowed in contrast to the prior art envelope. A security folder which is difficult to compromise, using carbonless paper, is also disclosed.

    Abstract: A method of making a support sheet-containing plastic film pocket for use in files. A continuous thin-film tubular material formed continuously by synthetic resin inflation molding is folded at opposite sides thereof into a flat tubular sheet consisting of an upper thin-film sheet and a lower thin-film sheet. The upper thin-film sheet is cut centrally along the length thereof. Two halves of the cut upper thin-film sheet are opened, and support sheets are inserted between respective opened halves of the upper thin-film sheet and corresponding portions of the lower thin-film sheet. Cut edge portions of the upper thin-film sheet are tacked to the lower thin-film sheet. Then, the thin-film tubular material, with support sheets inserted therein, is cut to a predetermined size of a target plastic film pocket. One end resulting from this cutting is welded. Again, the cut edge portions of the upper thin-film sheet or portions adjacent thereto are welded to at least the lower thin-film sheet.
