  • Patent number: 6406582
Abstract: A method for applying a pattern onto a support for a sign utilizes a foil comprising a pattern layer and a carrier layer with an adhesive layer uniting them. The pattern is cut out in the pattern layer of the foil by using a controlled cutting device, after which the foil is placed on a laminating table in an application device. A traverse is passed in controlled manner over the foil placed on the laminating table, and a self-adhesive transfer film supplied from a roll over and around a rotatably journalled press roll of a press device, is applied under pressure on the foil. The carrier layer and spill of the pattern layer are removed and the pattern parts remaining are brought into contact with the support, with the adhesive layer of the pattern parts now exposed. The press roll is then again passed over the transfer film, pattern parts and support so that the pattern parts are transferred permanently to the support, after which the transfer film is removed from the support.

Abstract: A method of applying an image to the surface of a wax candle is described, comprising applying the image to a film which is removably attached to a transfer material, wherein the film is a flexible, shape-conforming material which does not exhibit structural rigidity, and applying the film to the surface of the candle. The method can further comprise submerging the candle and applied film into molten wax, e.g. having a melting temperature which is about the same as or lower than the melting temperature of the candle to which the film is applied. Candles made by the method of the invention are also described.

  • Patent number: 6395119
Abstract: A transfer sheet is used for transferring an image formed by electrostatic copying to a backing of textile fabric or other porous material. The transfer sheet is composed of a plain paper substrate having no release treatment or coating applied thereto, and a transfer coating of thermoplastic polymeric film material bonded to the substrate. Transfer of the image is accomplished using only the single transfer sheet. The plain paper substrate securely retains the polymeric film coating during electrostatic imprinting and avoids contamination of the copier/printer. The image can be transferred to a textile backing by applying heat of about 160° C. and 200° C. and pressure of about 50 psi for a duration of about 5 to 10 seconds, and results in a high-quality image transfer that leaves the fabric weave open to breathe. The plain paper substrate is removed after image transfer by peeling it away from the backing while still hot.

Abstract: The method of transferring a sublimable dyestuff art image onto the curved outer surface of a billiard ball. The spherically shaped polyester billiard ball is initially molded with at least one recess having a first predetermined configuration formed in its curved outer surface. The first predetermined configuration would be either that of a heart or a spade such as found in a deck of cards and. the billiard ball would be made of material having a color that is not white. A plug made of styrene polyester resin heat cured material is then inserted into the recess. A plug would have the same first predetermined configuration. The surface of the plug must be receptive to sublimable dyestuff. The plug is then heat cured in the recess thereby providing a billiard with a substantially spherical outer surface. In the meantime a first lithographic art image has been formed on an auxiliary carrier web and the lithographic art image is made of sublimable dyestuff.
