  • Patent number: 9981456
Abstract: Apparatus and methods for creating multi-layered lightly-laminated provide films with increased or maintained strength. An increased level of strength is achieved by bonding adjacent layers of the multi-layer film together in a manner that the bond strength of the laminated layers is less than a strength of a weakest tear resistance of the individual first and second film layers. The inventors have surprisingly found that such a configuration of light bonding provides increased and unexpected strength properties to the multi-layer film as compared to a monolayer film of equal thickness or a multi-layer film in which the plurality of layers are tightly bonded together.

Abstract: An elastic composite formed from a lightweight nonwoven facing that has a low degree of strength in the cross-machine direction (“CD”) is provided. Through selective control over certain parameters of the materials employed in the composite and the formation process, the present inventors have discovered that such low strength and lightweight facings may be readily laminated to an elastic film without significantly damaging their integrity. For example, in one embodiment, the elastic film may possess a multi-layered construction that includes an elastomeric elastic layer positioned adjacent to a strength-enhancing thermoplastic layer. The polymer content and thickness of the thermoplastic layer are generally selected to impart additional strength and integrity to the film. Likewise, the polymer content of the elastic layer may also be selected so that the film possesses a sufficient tack for adhering to the facing.

Solidification of the polymeric layers is augmented by strip temperature during continuous-in-line travel; final dual-surface finishing provides for complete bonding of the polymeric layers on both metallic surfaces.

Abstract: Method steps and apparatus combinations for continuous in-line polymeric coating of rigid corrosion-protected flat-rolled sheet metal continuous-strip substrate utilizing a thermoplastic polymeric material having adhesive characteristics, capable of molten thin-film extrusion for chemical-bonding with an activated-surface of the flat-rolled sheet metal substrate, and substantially-simultaneously bonding with a solid-film polymeric material, establishing a work-product embodiment with multiple-polymer-layers traveling with the single activated surface; and, on which the solid polymeric film is selected to provide strength, hardness and other desired surface mechanical properties which also provide for external surface coloration, design, weather-proofing, and fabricating capabilities. A second embodiment provides dual-surface multiple-polymeric layer coating carried on by activating and polymeric coating one surface, at a time, of rigid corrosion-protected flat-rolled sheet metal continuous strip substrate.

Abstract: Web constructions with severed elongate strands located on at least one surface are described. The severed elongate strands are attached to one or both major surfaces of a web and may be arranged in rows and columns. The elongate strands may be formed by extruding continuous strands onto a web construction, followed by selective attachment of the strands to the web at intervals. After attachment, the elongate strands may be severed at locations between the points of attachment. The severed elongate strands may be used as fastening elements on a web backing. When used as fastening elements, the webs may be used in, e.g., garments (gowns diapers, training pants, etc.), bedding, etc. Other uses may also be envisioned for the webs with severed elongate strands, e.g., personal care products (skin debridement articles, etc.), abrasive articles, polishing articles, filters constructions (where, e.g., the severed elongate strands serve as filtering elements and/or spacers), etc.

The method according to the invention provides that the pipe (5) is extruded and the individual dripping elements (4) are bound therein by consecutively feeding the dripping elements (4) inside the pipe through the extruding head (1). The speed of the dripping elements (4) is higher than that of the pipe upon extrusion at least in the area of first contact between the pipe and the dripping elements (4). The invention also relates to a plant for implementing said method.
