Abstract: A method of fabricating shell purfling strips having sufficient flexibility to be placed within a curved configuration. The shell purfling strips may be placed, as a single unit, in curved channels which require the strip to bend. The flexibility results from a laminated structure comprising a layer of binding material overlain by an organic shell layer, with a bonding agent attaching the layers together. The organic shell layer comprises a plurality of precisely placed breaks along its length. The binding material retains the individual fragments of the shell layer in the strip, but because the binding material comprises a flexible material, such as rubber, the layer of binding material is sufficiently flexible to allow the purfling strip to flex longitudinally and transversely. The shell purfling strips may be attached in parallel relationship to other perfling components allowing installation as a unit.

Abstract: Disclosed are building board manufacturing techniques that minimize the build-up of slurry on associated forming equipment and also produce panels with enhanced physical properties. The methods involve applying a dissolvable film laminate to one or more fiber mats at the outset of the forming process. In the un-dissolved state, the film acts as a containment envelope for the gypsum slurry and any free floating glass fibers. During subsequent curing, the film is dissolved by vaporized water. In its dissolved state, the film is liquefied and coats the fibers of the underlying mat. This results in a building board with improved physical properties.

Abstract: A method for contamination-free docking of a first at least partially flexible receptacle to a second at least partially flexible receptacle. The receptacles include, at least in part, films having outer sides that can be solidly welded, and inner sides can be detachably welded. According to the described system, a solid connection between the receptacles is produced outside the detachably welded inner sides in order to create a channel between the receptacles. The channel is opened by loosening the connection between the inner sides.

Abstract: A heatable package bag includes two sheets of outer film, a plurality of projections, a plurality of guiding channels and a plurality of pre-breakage portions, where the two sheets of outer film includes a plurality of inner surfaces, a storage space is formed among the plurality of inner surfaces, adapted to receive an article; the plurality of projections is positioned on the plurality of inner surfaces, adapted to support the surface of the article; the guiding channels are positioned among the projections, the air in the storage space flows along the guiding channels; and the pre-breakage portions are positioned on the guiding channels. The air in the storage space is expanded to compress the two sheets of outer film during heating, and the plurality of pre-breakage portions is broken, allowing the air to flow out of the storage space via the plurality of pre-breakage portions.

Abstract: The present invention describes an improved side-sealing machine for use with heat sealable films. Briefly, a cutting and sealing element is located between a set of cooperating guide and alignment members. The downstream guide and alignment member also includes a compression mechanism. This compression mechanism serves to compress the seal created upstream, and to draw the heat away from the film. In some embodiments, the downstream guide and alignment member also serves to separate the film into a surplus portion and a remaining portion, where only the remaining portion is subjected to compression.

Abstract: A product and process for producing heat-transfers having a contrasting-color 3D appearance comprising a printed layer of woven fabric substrate adhered to a colorfast textile substrate. The woven fabric substrate includes a top substrate printed with a design logo. The underlying substrate is a solid color. The design logo/is engraved away in patterned designs using a galvanometric laser to reveal the contrasting substrate in desired areas, giving a layered embroidery 3D visual effect. These heat activated appliqués of the present invention are particularly suitable for use in forming decorations for apparel, bags and home furnishings. Their soft tactile hand feel does not cause discomfort to the wearer. The resulting product has superior care and durability characteristics, is more wash fast and can be ironed, and has superior appearance characteristics to other types of heat transfer appliqués. The heat transfer capability of the appliquéallows for fast customization of finished garments.

Abstract: Methods, apparatus and systems for collecting thin tissue samples for imaging. Thin tissue sections may be cut from tissue samples using a microtome-quality knife. In one example, tissue samples are mounted to a substrate that is rotated such that thin tissue sections are acquired via lathing. Collection of thin tissue sections may be facilitated by a conveyor belt. Thin tissue sections may be mounted to a thin substrate (e.g., by adhering thin tissue sections to a thin substrate via a roller mechanism) that may be imaged, for example, by an electron beam (e.g., in an electron microscope). This tissue sections may be strengthened before cutting via a blockface thinfilm deposition technique and/or a blockface taping technique. An automated reel-to-reel imaging technique may be employed for collected/mounted tissue sections to facilitate random-access imaging of tissue sections and maintaining a comprehensive library including a large volume of samples.

Abstract: A movable punch punches a plate piece from an original material sheet. The punched plate piece is rotated relative to and laminated onto another plate piece. A plurality of projections are formed on the outer circumference of each plate piece. The movable punch has a plurality of projection forming blades, the number of which is greater than the number of the projections of the plate pieces. Prior to the punching of the plate piece by means of the movable punch, blank holes for nullifying the formation of the projections are formed in the original material sheet at positions that correspond to projection forming blades. Further, as the punching of the plate pieces from the original material sheet progresses, the positions of the blank holes are changed.
