  • Patent number: 8440042
Abstract: A method of fabricating shell purfling strips having sufficient flexibility to be placed within a curved configuration. The shell purfling strips may be placed, as a single unit, in curved channels which require the strip to bend. The flexibility results from a laminated structure comprising a layer of binding material overlain by an organic shell layer, with a bonding agent attaching the layers together. The organic shell layer comprises a plurality of precisely placed breaks along its length. The binding material retains the individual fragments of the shell layer in the strip, but because the binding material comprises a flexible material, such as rubber, the layer of binding material is sufficiently flexible to allow the purfling strip to flex longitudinally and transversely. The shell purfling strips may be attached in parallel relationship to other perfling components allowing installation as a unit.

  • Patent number: 6565689
Abstract: A method for producing the conveyor assembly is also provided. A plurality of layers of reinforcing material are arranged in overlapping relation. A binding material such as thermoset urethane is deposited on the reinforcing material to bind the reinforcing materials together, thereby forming a composite material. A gripping material is deposited on the composite material, forming a gripping layer. The combined gripping layer and composite material are cured so that the gripping layer permanently bonds to the composite material. The combined gripping layer and composite material are then cut into a plurality of belt links, such that the gripping layer of each belt link is coextensive with the upper surface of the belt link. The belt links are then assembled to produce a link belt having a gripping surface formed from the gripping layers of the individual belt links.

Abstract: A process for manufacturing three-dimensionally shaped polymeric sheets and laminates with color-matched digitally printed full color ink jet images. A flexible thermoformable polymeric baseweb is placed in an ink jet printer and a solvent-based (non-aqueous) digital printing ink is applied directly to the baseweb, in the absence of an ink receptive layer on the baseweb, to form a decorative pattern in multiple colors in a single pass through the printer. The finished product can be thermoformed or injection molded to a three-dimensional shape. A protective topcoat can be laminated to the digitally printed sheet prior to the thermoforming and/or injection molding step. A process for making color-matched products comprises producing a software-driven image of a pattern on a screen representing a standard color print pattern; evaluating and adjusting the standard displayed on the screen using software-driven image related adjustments for hue, contrast, lightness/darkness, etc.

  • Patent number: 6444079
Abstract: A process and an apparatus for producing endless laminated veneer boards from a veneer-panel strand comprising veneer panels laid together in a plurality of layers by means of gluing and compression in a heated, continuously operating press. The veneer-panel strand is run through a preliminary press with a preheating device before it enters the press. The layers of glue applied to the veneer panels and/or the veneer panels for the center or a central-layer strand have a higher moisture content than the layers of glue and/or the veneer panels for the outer layers or the cover-layer strands. The veneer panels are each then assembled to give an upper and a lower cover-layer strand and, if required, a central-layer strand, and are combined to give a veneer-panel strand.

Abstract: A transverse fiber web includes a base stabilizing layer, a fiber layer and a second stabilizing layer. A longitudinal fiber web with sides that are substantially parallel to the fibers is cut into web parts, which are then reassembled to form the transverse fiber web. The fibers of the transverse fiber web form angle with a longitudinal direction of the transverse fiber web that is greater than 0°. The material selected for the base stabilizing layer can absorb tensile forces in the longitudinal direction of the transverse fiber web to increase the stability of the transverse fiber web during manufacture. The wed parts used in the assembly of the transverse fiber web can be complementary shaped to interlock with each other, or can overlap to permit flexible assembly of the transverse fiber web.

  • Patent number: 6346163
Abstract: An integral sheet member is produced by repeating the steps of feeding a predetermined amount of sheet material to a conveyor from a feed position on one side of the conveyor, cutting the sheet material to form a preceding strip which is transferred by the conveyor, and joining a leading end of a successive strip to a trailing end of the preceding strip. According to the invention, the preceding sheet strip has a transfer path which is branched into at least two directions, thereby forming at least two types of preceding strips. The leading end of the succeeding strip is joined to the trailing end of the preceding strip of a selected type, thereby allowing at least two kinds of sheet members to be produced continuously and highly efficiently, with an improved manufacturing flexibility.
