  • Patent number: 6234944
Abstract: A storage bag formed from a thermoplastic film includes a pad secured to the inside bottom thereof. The pad is disposed adjacent the bag material at or near the bottom by one or more strips of material extending across the pad. Each strip has an intermediate portion extending over the pad and two opposed portions each affixed on opposite sides of the intermediate portion to the bag material. If a single strip is used to secure the pad, the single strip has a sufficiently narrow width that the pad extends preferably beyond the strip on opposite sides of the intermediate portion. If two strips are used to secure the pad, each strip is disposed at a spacing to the other in extending over the pad. Thus, in either case at least part of the pad is exposed and uncovered by the strips of material.

  • Patent number: 6235142
Abstract: A method of making a multi-layer laminated shingle, in which a sheet of roofing material is cut into four strips, namely a shim strip, a first narrow tooth strip, a wide tooth strip, and a second narrow tooth strip, all dovetailing with each other. The shim is then laminated below the wide tooth strip to produce a first lamination. The first lamination is slit lengthwise along its center to produce two half first lamination strips. Each half first lamination strip is then laminated below a narrow tooth strip to produce two three layer lamination strips which are cross-cut into shingles. This enables production of a three layer laminated shingle simply and efficiently. In a modified method, two shim strips are used, one at each side of the sheet of roofing material, each being laminated below the wide tooth strip to produce a first lamination as before.

  • Patent number: 6217691
Abstract: A fibrous insulation media is formed from a non-woven mat of thermoplastic fibers having a mean diameter of less than about 15 microns. Preferably, when used as an acoustical insulation, the media is formed of fibers having a mean diameter of less than about 13 microns; the media has a density of less than about 60 Kg/m3; and the media has a Fraiser air permeability of less than 75 cubic feet per minute per square foot of surface area. The media has first and second major surfaces and a fibrous core with at least one of the major surfaces having an integral skin thereon. The skin is formed by melting fibers at and immediately adjacent the major surface of the mat formed into the media to form a thermoplastic melt layer which is subsequently solidified into a skin on the major surface of the mat. The thermoplastic fibers of the mat are point bonded together at spaced apart locations to increase the integrity of the mat.

  • Patent number: 6171432
Abstract: A novel method for manufacturing a layer of a laminated, disposable absorbent product, such as a fluid-permeable cover layer, an absorbent core layer or a fluid-impervious backing layer thereof, with a comparatively small amount of waste matter. The method comprises the steps of longitudinally cutting a continuous web of starting material according to a cyclic pattern constructed with line segments corresponding to the edge contour of the disposable absorbent product. The cutting operation divides the continuous web in two strips, each strip having a patterned longitudinal edge whose outline corresponds to the cyclic pattern. The strips are crossed and joined to one another in a parallel and in a phase relationship to form a compound web having longitudinal edges producing repeatedly the edge contour of the disposable absorbent product.

Abstract: A method is provided for applying segments of sheet material to articles by adhering leading and trailing ends of the label segments to the articles. The method further includes forming a plurality of perforations in the label segments in the vicinity of the ends as the segments are formed. • Patent number: 6017408
Abstract: Smearing of indicia (30,36) or deterioration of a label may be eliminated in a label form that provides protection for the imaging (30,36) in a construction that includes a sheet of transparent face stock (12), a layer of transparent pressure sensitive adhesive (14) on one side of the face stock sheet (12) and a sheet of transparent release liner (10) releasably adhered to the one side of the face stock sheet (12) by the adhesive (14). A die cut (18) is located in the release liner sheet (10) and defines a first removable frame section (20) and a second label defining section (22). The first section (20) surrounds the second section (22) so that when removed, a pattern of the adhesive (14) will be exposed. Reverse image printing (30) is disposed on the release liner second section (22).

  • Patent number: 5976299
Abstract: A method for making a non-peelable, sterilizable receptacle having a low particulate count for receiving articles for storage in pharmaceutical intermediate processing. This method involves providing a continuous first web of polyolefin film, providing a continuous second porous web of spun-bonded polyolefin film. The webs are advanced through cleaning processes that include an anti-static device, an ultrasonic vibrating device and a vacuum device. The two clean webs are then brought together and passed into the heat sealing section. The webs are heated welded together by forming continuous seams on the webs to form an open pouch. The seams are made by applying opposing platens at a pressure between about 30 to about 40 psi to both the webs and a heat welding element at a temperature of about 330.degree. to about 380.degree. F. against only the first web. This causes the first web to melt into the pores of the second web.

  • Patent number: 5972153
Abstract: A method for manufacturing labels and for applying each of the labels to an end wall of a cigarette packet. The method includes separating the labels from a continuous web moving in a horizontal direction with the width of the web parallel to a vertical plane. Only one side of the web is provided with printed areas for a succession of the labels, and severance cuts are provided in the web to form the labels between the areas. Separation of the labels occurs at the cuts. After the labels are separated, they are continuously transported by a suction conveyor belt moving in a vertical plane substantially parallel to the vertical plane of the web. The labels are held separated from each other by negative pressure from the belt which acts on the printed side. Glue is applied to the print-free side of the labels on the belt by a phased and non-contact application of at least on row of successive glue spots extending along the longitudinal dimension of the label. Then the labels are applied to the packets.

Abstract: A method and arrangement in winding of a web, in particular a paper or board web, in which the web is wound onto a first roll spool to form a first roll. When the first roll is complete, first and second edges of a material strip having a set length in a running direction of the web are attached to the web at first and second fixing points, respectively, at a location before the web is wound about the first roll spool such that the length of the web between the first and second fixing points is less than the length of the material strip. The first and second edges of the material strip extend in a direction substantially transverse to a running direction of the web.
