Abstract: A process for producing hollow fiber-reinforced components includes impregnating fibers with an impregnating material, preorienting the impregnated fibers, passing the pre-oriented fibers through a heated extrusion die to cure the impregnating material and to form a hollow profile and detaching segments from the hollow profile. The process further includes placing a separating film between the impregnated fibers at one position of the hollow profile prior to curing. The separating film prevents the fibers from bonding as the impregnating material is cured. A segment produced in this way is swung open at the position of the separating film. A subassembly is positioned inside the swung-open segment and then adjacent portions of the segment are permanently bonded together.

  • Patent number: 8404308
Abstract: An improved process for manufacture of polymer coated composite substrates is described. a coated composite substrate is prepared in the press by applying a layer of a primer coating composition to the surface of a compressible mat comprising fibers and/or particles and a resin binder. The primer coating composition is formulated preferably as a fast setting polymer latex capable of forming a chemically crosslinked polymer matrix when applied to the surface of a compressible mat. a thermosetting top coat composition can be applied directly over the wet primer coating composition before heat-processing the mat to improve surface quality and release characteristics. Compressing and heating the coated mat produces a primed composite substrate directly out of the press.

  • Patent number: 8398804
Abstract: A method of wash-durably bonding integrated textile emblems such as patches, emblems, labels and cut textile parts to another textile article by laminating a pressure sensitive acrylic polymer adhesive to the back surface of the textile emblem. The acrylic polymer adhesive has a storage modulus that is greater than a loss modulus throughout a frequency range of from 0.1885 Hz to 628 Hz where bonding and debonding are expected to occur, and is devoid of any cross linking additives or reagents. The integrated textile emblem with laminated pressure sensitive acrylic polymer adhesive has improved adhesion to low-to-high energy surfaces, is not water soluble and is of adequate thickness to provide a wash-durable textile-to-textile bond capable of seaming or permanently attaching items such as textile panels, appliqué bearing text, numbers, logos and other indicia for the apparel, accessory and other industries.
