The adhesive coated substrate is easily removable from the contact surface by manually lifting it therefrom. The adhesive permits readherence of the adhesive coated substrate to the same or different free contact surfaces. An adhesive coated paper substrate will readhere many times to free paper contact surface. The preferred gelled adhesive product is formed of an aqueous dispersion of components which include a rubber such as natural rubber latex component, a friction reducing agent, a tackifier, an antioxidant, a gelling agent and surfactant.

    Abstract: An anticorrosion and high shear resistant pipewrap system is described wherein a pipe surface is first coated with a primer comprised of natural rubber, resins, and a metal oxide activator dispersed in an organic solvent. The primer-coated pipe is then overlaid with an adhesive-coated polyolefin tape, the adhesive comprising a butyl-based rubber, tackifying agent and a cross-linking agent, p-quinone dioxime. The cross linking agent functions in the presence of an organo-titanate-treated metal oxide, being a catalyst such as lead dioxide, or the like, that results in high rates of cross linking in both the primer coating, the adhesive coating and the primer/adhesive interface zone. Minimal creep of the described anti-corrosion protective coating is noted in high shear stress environments.

    Abstract: Two preformed materials such as paper, fabrics, glass, sheet metal, at least one of which is pervious to water vapor, are joined together with a solvent-free adhesive based on a latex of a rubbery polymer. The latex is one which is stabilized with an emulsifier which forms water-insoluble compounds with zinc or cadmium ions. Included in the adhesive formulation is an ammonium or amine salt gelling agent for the latex, a zinc or cadmium ion donor compound and sufficient ammonia or a compound which releases ammonia to provide a pH of above 8 to the adhesive formulation. A surface of at least one of the preformed materials is coated with the adhesive and then contacted with a surface of the other material and held in such contact while heating to gel the latex and evaporate the water from the intersurface layer of adhesive.

    Abstract: A vulcanizing agent for rubber is incorporated into a polymer which is substantially noncrosslinkable by the agent but which is fusible with rubber upon milling. The resulting polymeric mixture and a vulcanizable rubber are formed into strips which are joined together along the lengths thereof to form an elongated, two-component tape wherein the rubber vulcanizing agent is carried in the nonreactive polymer. Sections of the tape can be milled to produce a vulcanizable compound by blending the polymeric component with the rubber component, thus obviating any need for separate addition of a rubber vulcanizing agent. The tape can be wound on a reel and stored until the need for blending arises. Premature reaction of the vulcanizing agent with the rubber is prevented since it is bound within the noncrosslinkable polymer.
