Abstract: A tape of insulating material, provided with a binder, is fixed to an elongated, rectangular electrical conductor in a longitudinal direction thereof, the tape being brought into contact with a first side of the conductor before the other portions of the tape are folded around the conductor with the use of endless belts movable transversely to the longitudinal direction of the conductor for bringing the other portions of the tape in contact with at least two other adjacent sides of the conductor.
Abstract: In apparatus for application of a tape of insulating material provided with a heat fixing binder to a substantially elongated rectangular electrical conductor in the longitudinal direction thereof, the conductor is heated, a portion of the tape is contacted with the first side of the conductor and other portions of the tape are successively contacted with other respective sides of the conductor. The successive contacting stations after the first contacting station each include apparatus for folding a portion of the tape about an edge of the conductor and then contacting a portion of the tape with a side of the conductor including that edge. The conductor may be additionally heated after several folding and contacting operations, and pressure may be applied to the conductor and tape after the tape has been completely fixed to the conductor.
Abstract: A method of welding a row of interconnected thermoplastic coupling elements for slide fasteners at opposed leg portions of each coupling element with the use of an ultrasonic horn. The method comprises: pressing the opposed leg portions of the coupling elements against the ultrasonic horn on its opposite sides during the coupling elements are being fed at constant speed; concurrently with this pressing step, fusing the opposed leg portions of the coupling elements at their confronting inner surfaces by ultrasonically vibrating the ultrasonic horn in a direction parallel to the confronting inner surfaces; and pressing the opposed leg portions of the coupling elements, after the latter is disengaged from the ultrasonic horn, against each other so as to be united at the confronting inner surfaces that have been fused. An apparatus for carrying the above method into practice efficiently and accurately is also disclosed.
Abstract: The wrapping of articles of indefinite length, particularly cable by locating wrapping material along and parallel to a facing surface of the article and wrapping the material around the article while substantially avoiding frictional contact between material and article. With the wrapping material loosely applied, binding material is applied to cause the wrapping material to tightly surround the article. A forming die for performing the operation, has an arcuate orifice extension connected to the die orifice for guiding an overlapping edge of wrapping material. Apparatus is included which has at least one die. Where more than one die is used, the positional relationship of the dies is determined to prevent the frictional contact between material and article during wrapping.
Abstract: Method and apparatus for forming sheet material into continuous structural shapes, particularly adaptable to the forming and joining of reinforced plastic sheet material, wherein the material is heated, formed, joined, consolidated, and cooled in a continuous process.

Abstract: Untwisted synthetic resin string comprising two rolled portions each spiral in cross section and formed by inwardly rolling toward each other the opposite side edges of a strip of thermoplastic resin film stretched at least longitudinally thereof. The rolled portions extend longitudinally of the string in parallel with each other and are partially adhered together longitudinally thereof. Also disclosed are an apparatus for manufacturing the untwisted string from a strip of thermoplastic resin stretched at least longitudinally thereof and another apparatus for manufacturing an untwisted string having a single rolled portion from like resin strip.
Abstract: Apparatus for forming the edges of mineral fiber blankets during their advance along a processing path. Guide means having surfaces shaped to continuously direct feathered or ragged longitudinal edges of an uncured mat of mineral fibers as it is introduced to forming apparatus causes a gathering of the fibers to control the uniformity of the density of the edge portion of the mass. The guide can comprise surfaces extending radially outward at the effective ends of a pressure roll cooperating with a rotatable mandrel in the formation of tubes of fiber mat. The first surface encountered by an advancing blanket raises the feathered edge. The raised edge is turned inward toward the major body portion of the blanket by a second surface. A third surface parallels the path of advance to establish the desired margin and maintain that margin as the blanket is compacted in its major face.
