Patent number: 6612356Abstract: A back-up pad is provided over an anvil surface of a back-up plate, and between the anvil surface and a sealing surface of a sealing die, in an apparatus for forming seals between layers of film material. The back-up pad has a slip layer on one side thereof and a firm polymeric support layer on an opposite side thereof, the slip layer opposing the sealing face of the die so that the layers of film material pass between the sealing die and the back-up pad during seal formation. The polymeric support layer may have a Shore-A hardness of at least 10 at 20° C. and a dynamic loss tangent of less than 0.1 from 20° C. to 80° C. An example of a support layer is a polycarbonate pad, and an example of slip layer is a glass cloth coated with Teflon™. The back-up pad is particularly useful for forming lap seals in relatively thick film materials, such as laminated films having multi-layered films laminated together.Type: GrantFiled: April 10, 2001Date of Patent: September 2, 2003Assignee: ExxonMobil Oil CorporationInventors: Dan-Cheng Kong, Richard A. Patent number: 6554042Abstract: A foil applicator for evenly applying an adhesive backed foil to edges or pieces of stained glass. The applicator includes guide members which direct a foil strip from a foil spool through an adjustable grasping roller mechanism and past a horizontal, raised planar table where foil is applied manually to the edges of glass pieces, nuggets, or jewels.Type: GrantFiled: August 3, 2001Date of Patent: April 29, 2003Inventors: Kenneth G. Publication number: 20020003027Abstract: A fabric for use in an architectural covering device includes a plurality of elongated vanes preferably of tubular configuration having a pair of flaps extending longitudinally along the entire length of the vane. A continuous face sheet material has elongated folds at spaced intervals that are secured along the flaps of the vanes so as to pivotally connect the vanes to the face sheet material at predetermined spaced intervals. The fabric is adapted to be supported with an operational system in an architectural opening so that if the vanes are suspended vertically they are slidably movable laterally of the window opening and pivotally movable about vertical longitudinal axes to extend and retract as well as open and close the covering. An apparatus and method for forming the fabric is also disclosed as well as systems for finishing the endmost vanes in the fabric.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 18, 2000Publication date: January 10, 2002Inventors: Paul G. Patent number: 6328725Abstract: The invention relates to a method of producing reclosable absorbent garments, in particular absorbent pants, and to the absorbent garments obtainable by said method. Starting from a continuous web (1) of absorbent articles attached side-by-side and with a line of weakening (6) arranged between adjacent articles, a first strip (8) comprising releasably attachable material is applied across the line (6) at one edge (25) of the web. A second strip of flexible material is also applied across the line (6) at the other edge (26) of the web. The web is then folded longitudinally to form a series of closed, joined adjacent articles. The adjacent articles are then partially separated at said line (6) but without rupturing said strips (8, 13), so as to provide a free zone (15) between said strips (8, 13) and the adjacent separated edges of each article. The strips (8, 13) are then joined together across the free zone (15) to form a plurality of joined garments.Type: GrantFiled: June 22, 1998Date of Patent: December 11, 2001Assignee: SCA Hygiene Products ABInventor: Ingemar Fernfors
