  • Patent number: 8944130
Abstract: An exemplary package-sealing method and system involves sealing a package with adhesive tape such that a pull cord is sandwiched between the tape and the package. A tape head includes a roll of tape and a pull cord spool, and a collar guide that helps position the pull cord between the tape's sides. Forward and rear applying rollers press leading and trailing edges of the tape, respectively, against the package being sealed. A tape blade and a pull cord blade secured to a cutting arm sever the pull cord before severing the tape, leaving a pull tab that extends out from beneath the tape when the package is sealed. The pull tab allows a user to conveniently unseal the package by grasping the pull cord and pulling thereon to separate the tape from the package without using sharp objects, enhancing user safety and reducing accidental damage to packages.

  • Patent number: 5932064
Abstract: As tape drawer rollers are driven for intermittent rotation, a continuous tape is intermittently fed along a tape traveling path with a leading end portion of the tape inserted through a ring at a tape folding section. When the continuous tape has been fed by a predetermined length, the feeding of the tape is stopped and then the lower end portion of the tape inserted through the ring is bent about the ring by a first bending member. Then a cutting device severs a predetermined length of tape strip off the continuous tape, whereupon the an upper half of the severed tape strip is bent about the ring by a second bending member, thus providing a folded tape strip having a laminate portion. Finally the folded tape strip is discharged out of a machine after part of its laminate portion is fused by a fusing device.

  • Patent number: 5614042
Abstract: The present invention discloses a tape binding device winding a tape piece having an adhesive surface on one side around an electric wire bundle to bundle it. In the device, a pair of arms having a holding surface are lowered while holding the tape piece cut into a predetermined length on the holding surface. As it is lowered, free ends of both arms are lowered to both sides separated by a top portion of the electric wire bundle. At the time of lowering, after winding the tape piece by pressing it around a surface of the electric wire bundle, the free ends of both arms make adhesive surfaces of both ends of the tape piece under the electric wire bundle to adhere each other and are clipped between them, thereby laminating adhesive surfaces each other.

  • Patent number: 4976803
Abstract: This invention relates to a pressing station for metal foil sheets applied around the top and neck of bottles. By means of bell-shaped pressing elements which can be axially lowered toward the bottle top, the foil sheets are firmly applied to the top and neck of the bottle. The pressing elements corresponding to each receiving position of the delivery star wheel are each supported by a crank. By means of a three-dimensional drive mechanism, each crank and thus also each pressing element can be lowered to the top of a bottle. To prevent collisions in the overlapping area of the rotational paths of the turntable and the delivery star wheel, each crank is coupled with another drive mechanism, which engages the crank. The cams of the two cam drive mechanisms are designed so that the pressing element is in its raised inside position in the vicinity of the turntable, and in its lowered, outside position in a portion of the area between the turntable and the delivery of the delivery star wheel.

The bottles and conveyor pass between a continuously moving set of retractable, electrical heat-seal bars and vacuum label handling heads. The vacuum heads receive individual labels from a strip supply of labels and carry the labels into position opposite a bottle on the conveyor. The label is folded about the bottle and the opposed heat-seal bar is advanced into contact with the overlapped edges of the label and held there for a time sufficient to complete the full height heat seal of the label. The heat bar is contoured to the same shape as the external profile of the container over the label height.

  • Patent number: 4750966
Abstract: The apparatus comprises an application roller pair which rolls an adhesive tape in a U-shaped manner about the rim of a shaped sheet metal part. The adhesive tape is located initially on a carrier ribbon and is drawn jointly with the former off a storage reel by means of conveyor rollers. After its separation from the carrier tape, the adhesive tape is guided via a loose pre-folding roller to the application roller pair, and the carrier ribbon is led off. The application rollers are pivotable about axes extending parallel with the shafts of the application rollers, and are arranged at the same time resiliently displaceably together with the pre-folding roller in the direction of the shafts. The longitudinal section of the pre-folding roller is concave or V-shaped and is additionally supported, displaceably in the direction of the shafts of the application rollers, by means of softer springs, so that they can follow continuously the edge of the metal sheet and urge the adhesive tape against this edge.

Abstract: Tubing typically produced by an extruder is advanced to coiling apparatus and is cut to predetermined lengths. The automated apparatus includes a plurality of spindles arranged at spaced intervals about a turret, which is indexed to position each spindle to: receive, clamp and coil the last cut length of tubing; advance the coiled length of tubing to a taping station, where the spindle so advanced is rotated for application of tape at diametrically opposed locations, and advance the spindle to an ejection location, where the spindle ejects the taped coil of tubing. The taper advances a pressure-sensitive tape strip, strips a protective strip from the tape and applies the tape to the applicator surfaces of a jaw assembly which swing together causing the tape to envelope the coiled tubing and presses the ends of the pressure-sensitive tape strip together to complete the taping function. The jaws of the jaw assembly are then separated, and the jaw assembly is withdrawn from the coiled tubing.
