  • Patent number: 4245452
Abstract: A method and apparatus are disclosed for wrapping an object in a sheet. A retainer formed with a slot is moved along a work path. A piece of sheet is supplied across the opening of the slot; then the object is inserted into the slot and pushes the sheet to the back of the slot against the retainer, with the edges of the sheet sticking out between the object and the edges of the slot, with part of the surface of the object being free; then a pressure plate is placed adjacent to the free surface, the outward facing surface of this plate being smooth; then first one, and then the other, protruding edge of the sheet is wrapped round the object and over the pressure plate by an embracing arm, so that the edges of the sheet overlap; then these edges are joined by a joiner bearing against the smooth part of the pressure plate; and then the wrapped object is discharged from the retainer.

  • Patent number: 4208234
Abstract: An apparatus is disclosed for successively applying hosiery or the like articles with a label having pressure sensitive adhesive applied to one side thereof. The label comprises a cut and scored blank of paperboard or the like which is divided into sub-panels for forming an article suspending upper hook portion and an article enveloping lower banding portion. The apparatus comprises means for sequentially separating the labels from a carrier web and means for forming, at two separate forming stations, the article suspending upper portions and the article enveloping lower portions of the labels. The operation of the apparatus is controlled by an operator who places hosiery or the like articles on a partially formed label at the second forming station. Upon removal of a banded pair of hosiery or the like from the machine, the apparatus is reactivated to deliver additional labels to the first and second forming stations.

  • Patent number: 4084306
Abstract: An apparatus for transporting and wrapping pipe insulation comprising a frame and a pair of arms mounted on the frame for swinging movement about a longitudinal axis. A row of longitudinally spaced vacuum pads is suspended and on each arm a pair of transversly spaced rows of longitudinally spaced vacuum pads are suspended on the arms inwardly of the first-mentioned rows on said arms. Vacuum can be selectively supplied to the rows of vacuum pads. Means are provided for swinging the arms toward and away from one another whereby when the arms are extended and the vacuum pads are brought into engagement with a generally flat piece of insulation, the insulation is engaged and may be lifted and transported by manipulating the frame to bring the insulation adjacent a length of pipe and the arms may thereafter be swung inwardly to wrap the insulation about the length of pipe.

  • Patent number: 4055859
Abstract: The invention relates to a machine for and method of handling sheet material for forming, for example, bib aprons in a simple and economical way. Sheets of material are automatically directed along a feed path to a folding station at which a string or strip is formed into a "V" shape in spaced juxtaposition above the sheet material. Opposed corners of the sheet material are folded over legs of the "V" and the apex of the "V" is thereafter severed to form neck tie elements.

  • Patent number: 4052240
Abstract: An improved box taping device of the type which propels a box past a tape applying head. The device includes means for holding a portion of the tape transverse of the box path so that it will engage the leading surface of the box and subsequently be applied along the top surface of the box as the box is propelled through the device. The device also includes means adapted to extend a U-shaped length of the tape along the trailing surface of the box after the box is taped along its top surface. During such movement one extended portion of the U-shaped length of tape is adhered to the trailing surface of the box. The extended portions of the U-shaped length of tape are separated after they extend entirely across the path and the portion not adhered to the box is retained in that position transverse of the path so that the device is ready to tape another box moved along the path.

  • Patent number: 4045274
Abstract: The method of surface treatment of wooden panels which comprises drawing off carrier strips or sheets impregnated with hardenable synthetic resin from supply rollers, and laying the strips onto the top and bottom surfaces of the panel. The sheets are attached to the panel along the edges thereof by heat-bonding, using a heated tool which presses the strip to the corner formed by the intersection of the surface of the wooden panel with the perpendicular side edges thereof. The wooden panel, with carrier sheets attached thereto along its edges, is then placed in a heated press, where the sheets are pressed and heat-bonded to the surfaces of the panel.

  • Patent number: 4035224
Abstract: A method and an apparatus for forming a top assembly for desks, tables, credenzas and similar items having a core and an outer layer of a thin hard laminated plastic sheet adhered to the core. The thin hard laminated plastic sheet covers the top surface of the core and is wrapped around the side and end walls and undersurface edges thereof. The laminated plastic sheet is unbroken by seams or rims along the side and end edges of the top assembly. In forming the top assembly, a one-piece thin hard laminated plastic sheet is adhered by cement to the top surface of the core and is positioned so that side and end portions of the laminated plastic sheet extend beyond the side and end edges of the top surface. A selected extending side or end portion of the laminated plastic sheet is heated to soften it and make it pliable.
