  • Patent number: 8967221
Abstract: There is described a method for applying foil material (200) onto successive sheets (S), especially sheets for the production of securities, such as banknotes. In a first step, individual sheets (S) are transported in succession along a sheet transport path. In a second step, at least one continuous band of foil material (200) is applied onto the individual sheets (S) along a direction substantially parallel to a direction of displacement (A) of the individual sheets, thereby forming a continuous flow of sheets linked to one another by the said at least one continuous band of foil material (200). In a third step, the said at least one continuous band of foil material (200) is cut by means of a laser beam (L) such that the continuous flow of sheets is again separated into individual sheets (S) with portions of foil material (200*) remaining on the sheet.

  • Patent number: 8944130
Abstract: An exemplary package-sealing method and system involves sealing a package with adhesive tape such that a pull cord is sandwiched between the tape and the package. A tape head includes a roll of tape and a pull cord spool, and a collar guide that helps position the pull cord between the tape's sides. Forward and rear applying rollers press leading and trailing edges of the tape, respectively, against the package being sealed. A tape blade and a pull cord blade secured to a cutting arm sever the pull cord before severing the tape, leaving a pull tab that extends out from beneath the tape when the package is sealed. The pull tab allows a user to conveniently unseal the package by grasping the pull cord and pulling thereon to separate the tape from the package without using sharp objects, enhancing user safety and reducing accidental damage to packages.

Abstract: A system and method for automated application of adhesive, buffer, and/or liner to I-joists, whereby a controlled amount of adhesive, glue, buffer material, and/or a protective liner, are successively applied to the exposed flange of an I-joist. An air-activated side pressure wheel first pushes one flange of an I-joist against an opposing friction-reduced straight edge, then at least one adhesive/glue head extrudes adhesive and/or buffer material onto the opposing exposed flange of the I-joist. An overhead liner applicator may then place a protective liner upon the applied adhesive and/or buffer material. An applicator roller bearing and a pressure roller bearing press the adhesive/buffer/liner to the desired mil thickness, after which the liner applicator cuts the protective liner according to the cut pattern instructions received from a controller. A cooler can be used to cool the adhesive/buffer before release liner application.
