  • Patent number: 8944130
Abstract: An exemplary package-sealing method and system involves sealing a package with adhesive tape such that a pull cord is sandwiched between the tape and the package. A tape head includes a roll of tape and a pull cord spool, and a collar guide that helps position the pull cord between the tape's sides. Forward and rear applying rollers press leading and trailing edges of the tape, respectively, against the package being sealed. A tape blade and a pull cord blade secured to a cutting arm sever the pull cord before severing the tape, leaving a pull tab that extends out from beneath the tape when the package is sealed. The pull tab allows a user to conveniently unseal the package by grasping the pull cord and pulling thereon to separate the tape from the package without using sharp objects, enhancing user safety and reducing accidental damage to packages.

Abstract: A method for producing an analysis tape for fluid samples, in particular body fluids, is proposed. The method comprises providing a laminate tape having a laminate carrier tape and at least one diagnostic functional layer, and cutting the laminate tape in such a way that a diagnostic auxiliary label arises; transferring the diagnostic auxiliary label to a vacuum roller; and transferring the diagnostic auxiliary label to a carrier tape. In general, at least one vacuum roller is used for the transfer of the diagnostic auxiliary label to the carrier tape. The cutting of the diagnostic functional layer is effected in such a way that a free end of the diagnostic functional layer is lifted off from the laminate carrier tape by guiding the laminate carrier tape around a cutting edge with a small radius, wherein the diagnostic functional layer is cut at a predetermined distance from the lifted off free end by means of a cutting device.

  • Publication number: 20140374002
Abstract: A method and apparatus for cutting and sealing a moving length of a fabric by heating, sealing, and finally cutting the fabric in a linear process to form an even, fused edge. The fabric undergoes a sequence of manipulations efficacious for cutting and sealing the fabric to a desired pattern and edge width. The method and apparatus help to minimize frayed edges on the fabric by bonding and fusing the fibers prior to cutting. The fabric is initially drawn through the apparatus in a predetermined pattern, such as a window blind. A heating portion directs a hot gas onto a section of the fiber desired for creating the edges. The heated section is compressed under a seal, which helps fuse perpendicular and parallel cross sections of fibers. The newly sealed section is then immediately cut with a cutting portion to form at least one fused edge.

An air-activated side pressure wheel first pushes one flange of an I-joist against an opposing friction-reduced straight edge, then at least one adhesive/glue head extrudes adhesive and/or buffer material onto the opposing exposed flange of the I-joist. An overhead liner applicator may then place a protective liner upon the applied adhesive and/or buffer material.
