Abstract: A method of manufacture involves the following steps: extruding a first zipper strip comprising a first zipper flange and a first closure profile; extruding a second zipper strip comprising a second zipper flange and a second closure profile that is interlockable with the first closure profile; interlocking the first and second closure profiles; and welding the first and second zipper flanges together in a first zone and welding the first and second closure profiles together in a second zone by applying energy to both zones in one operation or in separate operations. A generally T-shaped zone of fusion is formed. The second zone forms the top of the T shape, while the first zone forms the stem of the T shape. The first zone forms respective flange seals, while the second zone forms either back-to-back preseals or back-to-back slider end stops when the zipper is cut, depending on whether the zipper is sliderless or slider-actuated.

Abstract: An apparatus is arranged to successively make plastic bags each of which has a shape of circumference. The apparatus comprises web feeding means by which a web material is intermittently fed for a length along a longitudinal feeding path. The web material comprises two or more layers of plastic film. Web cutting means is disposed along the feeding path. The web cutting means has a shape corresponding completely or incompletely to the shape of circumference of plastic bag so that the web material can be cut into the shape of circumference of plastic bag by the web cutting means whenever the web material is intermittently fed and temporarily stopped, to successively make the plastic bags with a waste kept continuous. The web cutting means comprises partially cutting means. The plastic bag has an upstream edge along which the web material is partially cut by the partially cutting means so that the plastic bag can be kept connected with the waste at the upstream edge of plastic bag.

  • Patent number: 6769467
Abstract: Disclosed is an embosser for producing matte finish photographs from a glossy finish photograph. The embosser receives a sheet of glossy prints as generated by an inkjet printer with a clear laminate over the print to protect the inkjet generated photographic image. Pressure and embossing rollers biased to spaced apart positions within the embosser are selectively operable to move one against the other to create a nip through which the laminated print passes. At the option of an operator the laminated print may be allowed to pass between the spaced apart rollers undisturbed thereby generating a glossy photograph. At the option of the operator the rollers are moved one against the other to create the nip so that passage of the print now results in an embossment of the lamination thereby producing a matte finish photograph. Also disclosed is a method for alternatively generating a glossy or matte finish print and a matte finished print wherein the matte finish is formed in situ.

  • Patent number: 6390167
Abstract: In a method and an apparatus for manufacturing multi-layered hygiene products, a starting material web (2) is transported from one or more supply stations (4) to one or more processing stations (3) in which the starting material is cut, shaped, laminated, folded, etc. so as to form the finished hygiene products. The processing stations (3) are arranged on a processing plane (12), while the supply stations (4) are arranged on a supply plane (13), wherein these two planes are respective parallel vertical planes that are horizontally spaced apart from each other. The physical separation of the supply stations from the processing stations allows an effective noise shielding of the processing stations and the use of larger supply rolls in the supply stations, as well as improved accessibility of the equipment.

Abstract: A system for embossing and crimping a plurality of sheet material web layers, including a first, second and third roll. The first roll including at least one element extending radially therefrom. The second roll has a resilient surface that engages the element to form a first nip therebetween. The third roll has a non-resilient surface that engages the element to form a second nip therebetween. In a preferred embodiment, the first roll includes at least a first and second element extending radially therefrom, with the first element having a greater radial height than the second element, which avoids contact with the third roll. The layers of sheet material web are embossed by the first and second elements as they are passed through the first nip, and are crimped together by the first element as they are passed through the second nip. In a preferred embodiment, the first roll includes a plurality of first and second elements arranged in a pattern.

  • Patent number: 6354352
Abstract: In a method for simultaneously welding to one another the layers of several pairs of thermoplastic foils arranged in a stack, a primary heat energy source is positioned between two pairs of thermoplastic foils, and welding heat energy is supplied to the two pairs via the primary heat energy source. The press for performing this method has two pressing elements for applying pressure to the stack of n pairs of layers of thermoplastic foils. The two pressing elements are positioned at opposite ends of the stack and force the layers of the pairs of thermoplastic foils toward one another. A stacked arrangement of n−1 flat, bar-shaped heating elements is aligned with the two pressing elements. Between two adjacent heating elements a respective pair of thermoplastic foils is received such that the pairs of thermoplastic foils alternate with the heating elements. The stacked arrangement of the heating elements is arranged in a plane that is perpendicular to the planes of the thermoplastic foils.
