  • Patent number: 7810539
Abstract: Tools for compacting composite parts are disclosed. These tools are used while layers of composite material, such as tows or laminae, are being deposited onto a fabricating surface, such as a mold or other forming tool. The compacting tool is typically divided into a series of narrow segments, each segment able to advance or retreat individually so as to conform to the surface of a composite part being formed. Pressurized fluid, such as air or hydraulic fluid, or non-pressurized internal bladders with incompressible fluid, are used to evenly apply pressure to the segments in order to compact the material with which the tool and the segments are in contact. The compacting tool thus helps eliminate voids and helps the material conform to the desired shape on the forming tool.

  • Publication number: 20100236723
Abstract: A display pack for a consumer product is made of two sheets of corrugated cardboard and a clear plastic container with a flat insertion portion sandwiched between the cardboard sheets. The two cardboard sheets are adhered together in a peripheral area of the package by a heat-sensitive adhesive, and the corrugations of the cardboard sheets are crushed and flattened in the peripheral area. To seal the package, the peripheral area of the two cardboard sheets is subject to sufficient pressure to crush the corrugations inside the cardboard sheets and flatten them in that area. Heat is applied to the outer side of the cardboard sheets in the peripheral area and conducted to the adhesive material between the two sheets to activate the adhesive material. A sealer machine with a heated sealing press or parallel sets of heated rollers may be used to carry out the sealing process.

  • Publication number: 20080251190
Abstract: A printing machine contains a transfer unit for transferring a transfer layer onto a print carrier in a transfer nip. The printing machine further has at least one applicator unit for applying an adhesive to the print carrier. The applicator unit precedes the transfer unit, and the transfer layer is detached from the carrier film in the transfer unit in the regions in which adhesive is applied. By printing units being converted into transfer units or applicator units, the functionality of the printing unit for a printing operation is lost. If the applicator device and the transfer device are located in this order on an impression cylinder of a printing unit, the applied adhesive is not predried sufficiently. To overcome these disadvantages, the transfer unit is a further processing unit and has at least one further processing device which follows the transfer nip and which acts on the print carrier.

  • Patent number: 7213628
Abstract: Photosensitive material includes a support, and a photosensitive layer overlaid thereon and containing resin. A photosensitive layer laminator transfers the photosensitive layer from the photosensitive material to a glass substrate. In the photosensitive layer laminator, heat/pressure rollers apply the photosensitive layer to a transfer region on the substrate with heat and pressure. A photosensitive material feeder transports first and second photosensitive materials to the substrate set at the heat/pressure rollers. The first and second photosensitive materials have a width smaller than a width of the transfer region, and are disposed to extend along one another. Furthermore, a tension adjuster adjusts tension applied to the first and second photosensitive materials in an upstream direction from the heat/pressure rollers.

  • Patent number: 7204290
Abstract: A cover peeling machine includes a pair of rolls. The roll has an almost conical shape. Both of the rolls are rotated in a reverse direction. The direction of the rotation is an inward direction as seen from above. A golf ball is put close to a tip of the roll. In the vicinity of the tip, a distance between a nip of the roll and the golf ball is short. Therefore, a clip portion formed on the golf ball can be easily bitten between the rolls. With the rotation of the roll, a cover is peeled from a core. A groove formed on a surface of the roll can prevent the roll and the cover from slipping. After the removal, the cover and the core are recycled respectively.

Abstract: A transfer device for adhering a transferable material to a target substrate is disclosed. The transfer device includes a supply of transfer substrate. The transfer substrate has a carrying surface and an adhesive-type transferable material provided on the carrying surface. A pressure applicator member has an engaging surface with a release characteristic and is positioned in pressure applying relation adjacent the carrying surface of the transfer substrate. The target substrate may be passed between the transfer substrate and the pressure applicator member so that the adhesive is transferred to the target substrate. The transfer device also includes a take-up roll for winding up spent portions of the transfer substrate from which the transferable material has been transferred to the target substrate.

  • Patent number: 7082979
Abstract: A heat sealing wheel assembly of a shrink wrap machine reduces thermoplastic film waste during the side cutting and sealing process. The relative diameters of the heat wheel and heating hub of the heat sealing wheel assembly are configured to create an annular region towards the outer circumference of the heat wheel. This creates a space to permit closer engagement of the gripping mechanism for grasping and guiding the edge of thermoplastic film next to the point of contact of the opposing heat wheel edges, and avoids the obstruction normally caused by the heating hub. The closer gripping engagement reduces the amount of film that must extend out from the point of sealing contact of the heat wheels, resulting in less waste during the side sealing process.
