  • Patent number: 5204036
Abstract: A method for molding articles, particularly tires, of different diameters/circumferences including a plurality of pitches defining a mold cavity, the pitches having transverse faces in generally face-to-face abutment in a closed position of the mold cavity, and at least several of the pitches being of different lengthwise sizes. The pitches in the closed position of the mold cavity defining a predetermined mold configuration which includes portions at angles to the length of the article molded in the mold cavity. The mold configuration matches lengthwise across all of the transverse faces irrespective of the location of the pitches relative to each other and irrespective of the number of the pitches. The latter arrangement permits articles, such as new or retread tires, of different lengths but of the generally same predetermined mold configuration to be molded in a single mold.

  • Patent number: 4892129
Abstract: A tire unit consisting of a coreless air tire (4), containing a reinforcing ply (7), and a rim (3), the edges (8, 10) of which are permanently connected to one another solely by bonding. The part of the tire edge (8) containing the reinforcing ply is bonded to the latter only on one side of the rim. The rim edge (10) has an undercut (28) in which the tire edge (8) contains an annular reinforcement (29). A main bonding zone (23, 37) is provided in the undercut or adjacent to it on the outside. In the main bonding zone, the tangential angle (25) to the axis (1) is at no point (24) smaller than at each point which lies closer to the tire side wall (6) or smaller than the angle (20) at which the tire side wall (6) runs clear of the rim under all normal loading conditions. Moreover, a process is proposed for producing such a tire unit.

  • Patent number: 4828470
Abstract: A tire retreading tube for use with a tire retreading rim formed from a pair of axially-adjacent rim sections, one of said sections having a cutout for the reception of the valve stem extending from the tube body and being formed with threads adjacent the tube. The tube has an extension of generally cylindrical form through which the stem extends, so that the extension surrounds the portion of the stem adjacent the tube, and functions as a spacer element and is effective to limit movement of the stem and the tube relatively to the rim section. Suitably, the spacer element threadedly engages the stem adjacent the tube, has a body which essentially fills the cutout circumferentially, and has end flanges to overlie the adjacent faces of the rim section with which it is to be associated.

  • Patent number: 4798640
Abstract: A repaired elastomer article having a cut or crack entirely therethrough. A treating agent is located about the cut portion on the inner surface of the article and an amine curable polymer or prepolymer layer resides over said treating agent. A cured elastomeric patch resides over said curable polymer. Since the amine curable polymer cures at ambient temperatures, the repair of the elastomer article can occur on site. The invention is especially useful in the repair of tires.

  • Patent number: 4598749
Abstract: A vehicle tire with traction-improving devices, wherein the basic tire has a plurality of uniformly spaced apart cross grooves running essentially from sidewall to sidewall. Each groove is fitted with an inflatable bag or bladder which, when uninflated, retracts within the circle of the road-engaging surface of the tread. An annular manifold is affixed to at least one sidewall and is connected by conduits to the cross members. This manifold has a valved air inlet which may be used to pressurize the cross members via the manifold and thus to project the inflated members radially beyond the circle of the tread so that they engage the road surface. Depressurizing the manifold of course causes the members to retract. Each cross member is equipped with some form of traction-improving substance, structure or the like to enhance road grippability, especially in slippery road conditions.

  • Patent number: 4569709
Abstract: This invention relates to a method for applying a tread to a tire, whereby around a toroidal tire a layer of non-vulcanized rubber is applied, which will form the tread area of the tire after vulcanization in the vulcanization press; and whereby the thus prepared tire is vulcanized in vulcanization press. According to the invention, before the vulcanization of the thus prepared tire in a vulcanization press, portions of the layer of non-vulcanized rubber are removed by peeling or by forming peels of non-vulcanized rubber, so that the shape of the peeled tire is adapted to the shape of the vulcanization press. The invention also relates to a machine for carrying out the method according to the invention.
