Patent number: 7870972Abstract: The Sliding Safety Hinge Assembly (SSHA) minimizes the degree of personal injury or discomfort that could result from accidental closure of the lid of a box, i.e. “toy box”, by pinching a finger between the lid and box, particularly as the obstruction approaches the side or rear of the box near the hinge. A traditional hinge attached to the lid and rear of box carcass provides a fixed pivot point such that a severe pinch point exists due to the leverage of the lid. The SSHA reduces this potential by a sliding design such that the hinge element normally fastened to the rear of the box is rather installed on a slide assembly allowing free sliding motion in the vertical plane at the rear of the box. The SSHA assembly would include a slide, pivot and counter weight device to reduce the weight of the lid.Type: GrantFiled: March 11, 2008Date of Patent: January 18, 2011Inventor: Dennis James Elefante

Publication number: 20100050380Abstract: A hinge structure for a lid of an in-vehicle console box includes a storage box having an opening, a lid having a front end and a rear end, and a hinge member having a rotation axis. The hinge member is disposed between the storage box and the lid so the lid rotates around the rotation axis to open and close the opening. A slide mechanism is located between the lid and the hinge member so the lid can move in the directions of the front end and the rear end in relation to the hinge member when opening and closing the lid. A converting mechanism converts a turning force for rotating the lid around the rotation axis to a linear force for sliding the lid in the directions of the front end and rear end so the lid moves in the direction of the rear end when being opened, and in the direction of the front end when being closed.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 29, 2009Publication date: March 4, 2010Applicant: MORIROKU TECHNOLOGY COMPANY, LTD.Inventors: Yuji Fujiwara, Yukihiro Sanma

Patent number: 7591044Abstract: A hinge for furniture of the “frame” type comprises a base portion to be mounted to the frame of the piece of furniture and a portion for fastening to the furniture door and articulated on the base portion. The base portion comprises a lower element intended for fastening to the furniture frame, and an upper element supporting the articulation to the portion fastening the hinge to the door. The lower and upper elements are connected to each other for mutual-sliding movement in a direction longitudinal to the hinge, means for controlled adjustment of the sliding movement being present close to one end of the base portion. The two base elements are made of cut-out sheet metal and means for sliding constraint in the adjustment direction are present between them, said means comprising half-punched pins projecting from side walls of one of the two elements for sliding fitting into corresponding slots in the other element.Type: GrantFiled: October 20, 2005Date of Patent: September 22, 2009Inventor: Carlo Migli
