Patent number: 11802430Abstract: The present invention is a novel hinge design that allows unique operation of the lid for a container, box, storage chest, ice chest or similar item. In addition to the lid being able to flip up on two hinges as is traditional, the present invention allows the lid to swivel to one side or the other, while remaining in the horizontal plane. This is accomplished, in the exemplary embodiment, by means of two inventive ball-and-socket hinges each of which can have its ball disengaged from its socket. If one ball-and-socket hinge is thus disengaged, the lid is then free to rotate horizontally around the other ball-and-socket hinge, thereby swiveling the lid to one side and effectively opening the box or container. The lid, when opened in this fashion, is amply supported by the end of the box over which it sits, and can act as a table or flat surface for organizing items as they are transferred to or from the box or container.Type: GrantFiled: February 28, 2022Date of Patent: October 31, 2023Inventor: Richard William Schofield

Patent number: 7685678Abstract: Disclosed is a refrigerator having a height-adjustable door. The body of the refrigerator has at least one storage space having a front opening. The door is coupled to the body so as to cover/uncover the storage space, and a hinge hole is formed on the bottom surface of the door. A hinge frame is fixed to a front surface of a lower portion of the body and has a hinge shaft inserted into the hinge hole so as to rotatably support the door. The hinge shaft is covered with a hinge bush, a part of which is inserted into the hinge hole. The hinge bush has a flange portion on its lower end for supporting the bottom surface of the door. A height adjustment screw is screw-coupled to a screw hole of the hinge frame so as to travel vertically. The upper end of the height adjustment screw abuts the bottom surface of the hinge bush so that, when rotated, the height adjustment screw lifts/lowers the hinge bush, in order to adjust the height of the door.Type: GrantFiled: April 19, 2006Date of Patent: March 30, 2010Assignee: LG Electronics Inc.Inventors: Sun Nam Moon, Myung Soo Kim

Patent number: 7653967Abstract: The invention disclosed provides a compact hinge capable of a vertical, a horizontal, and an overlay adjustment, comprised of a cup portion and a hinge arm with one end pivotably connected to the cup portion and the other end slideably connected to a fastener plate. The fastener plate further comprises a first semi-planar surface for contact with a cabinet frame and a second semi-planar surface for slideable engagement with the hinge arm to accomplish the horizontal adjustment. The first and second semi-planar surfaces are interconnected by a deformable hinge section that allows for an elastically resilient connection at one end and an adjusting screw at the other end for a horizontally arcing movement relative to each resulting in an overlay adjustment. The fastener plate further comprises an elongated aperture in the first semi-planar surface through which the vertical adjustment is accomplished.Type: GrantFiled: May 4, 2007Date of Patent: February 2, 2010Assignee: Hardware Resources, Inc.Inventors: Mark Jeffrey Lowe, Udhaya Bhaskar Nallamottu

Patent number: 7603746Abstract: A three-way adjustable butt hinge for a door is adjusted vertically in a door frame by inserting an allen wrench in a vertical adjustment screw at the top of the hinge pin. Turning the wrench moves the screw in either direction, pushes on the hinge pin and raises or lowers the door as necessary. A pin has an eccentric shaft with upper and lower sections offset on parallel axes. Lateral adjustments are effected by loosening a side-mounted set screw and turning the eccentric shaft as necessary to move the door either in or out or side to side in the frame. The lateral set screw holds the hinge pin integral with the sash hinge. The door is removed from the frame by simply lifting the door sash hinge and pin from the complementary pin receiver on the frame hinge.Type: GrantFiled: September 20, 2002Date of Patent: October 20, 2009Assignee: G-U Hardware, Inc.Inventors: Julius von Resch, Jan M.
