Having Plural Hinge Axes (e.g., Multiple Pintle) Patents (Class 16/366)
  • Patent number: 5937483
Abstract: An enveloping hinge system and method for use on storage boxes, fishing tackle boxes, tool boxes and the like is disclosed. The enveloping hinge system and method comprise four identical links, each with a male end and a female end. Each said end is provided with a pivot point for joining to the next link, as well as providing a rotational axis on the order of 90.degree.. When open, the invention generally provides a flat surface for which to access the contents of said storage box. When closed, the invention generally provides a closed shape in which the bottom surface of each storage unit provides an outer surface of a 360.degree. shape to allow for storage and transportation requirements.

  • Patent number: 5898977
Abstract: A supporting bracket for windows which can be used on any side of a window and which can be mounted using existing central mount installation tooling is disclosed. The supporting bracket uses dual sided containment of the vent bar end for preventing sash play and uses camming surfaces to allow for immediate sash pull in which prevents weather-strip problems and prevents the supporting bracket from binding during an opening operation. In some embodiments, an end cap engages opposite sides of a symmetric vent bar end. In another embodiment, a pin attached to the vent bar is engaged on opposite sides by a track formed within the main track of the supporting bracket. In all embodiments, the vent bar and the link pivotally connecting the vent bar to the track are prevented from moving in a direction opposite the direction of opening during an opening operation. The arms of the supporting bracket may have fully rounded edges for preventing binding between adjacent arms during load.

  • Patent number: 5873149
Abstract: A hinge assembly includes an upper hinge section having a circumferential wall structure and a top plate and a lower hinge section having a circumferential wall structure and a bottom plate, the upper and lower hinge sections fitting together to form a single cylindrical hinge structure. A hinge bracket includes a generally flat plate and upper and lower bracket cylinders mounted thereto, the hinge bracket operative to pivotably connect the upper and lower hinge sections. The upper and lower bracket cylinders are arranged on the plate such that when the lower bracket cylinder is pivoted about a lower hinge pin mounted in the lower hinge section, rotational movement of the hinge bracket is restricted by contact of the hinge plate with a forward edge of the lower hinge section. The hinge assembly may be mounted on the frame of the vehicle and to the tilt-forward hood of the vehicle to permit freer access to the engine compartment of the vehicle than that previously available in the prior art.

  • Patent number: 5282293
Abstract: A 180.degree. concealed hinge includes two pivots which are advantageously arranged to provide a deterministic opening sequence. The hinge comprises a frame leaf member and a door leaf member which are pivotally connected to a mounting leaf member. In one embodiment of the invention, the deterministic opening sequence is obtained by employing a loose fit pivot and a friction fit pivot. The deterministic opening sequence is such that rotation occurs first about the loose fit pivot from a closed position to an approximately 90.degree. open position when an opening rotational force is applied to the door leaf member. Upon reaching the 90.degree. open position, further rotation about the loose fit pivot is prevented by a unique stop arrangement. Then, rotation can occur about the friction fit pivot for an additional 90.degree.. Further rotation about the friction fit pivot is prevented by also employing another unique stop arrangement.

  • Patent number: 5199592
Abstract: A container having an opening in a sidewall coverable by a hinged gate is described. The hinge for the gate is made by mating two, preferably identical, hinge bodies to thereby insert posts on the hinge into sockets residing, respectively, in the gate and sidewall. The hinge rotates with respect to the gate about a first axis, and rotates with respect to the sidewall about a second spaced parallel axis. The gate, in the opened position, lies flat against the sidewall and is entirely clear from the opening. The gate is latched in its closed position by a clip structure which passes through a first lip of the gate, then through a lip of the sidewall, then through a second lip of the gate.

  • Patent number: 5158503
Abstract: A double-pivot door hinge is disclosed that is particularly suited for household appliances such as refrigerators or microwave ovens. The hinge arrangement allows the appliance door to be opened a full 180 degrees from its closed position without coming into contact with a flush mounted wall such as an abutting kitchen cabinet. The hinge has a first pivot pin and a stop arrangement which allows a door to be swung outwardly until a 90-degree position is reached whereby the stop arrangement is engaged. Upon further outward movement, the assembly shifts to a second hinge pin until a 180-degree position is reached. The movement from the 90-degree position to a 180-degree position requires the overcoming of a spring force of the hinge arrangement.

Abstract: A hinge for use in serving carts to secure a pivotable door to the housing of the cart has a first pintle mounted in lugs provided in one vertical marginal portion of a sidewall forming part of the housing of a cart, a second pintle mounted in lugs extending from one vertical marginal portion of the door, and leaves which have holes or bores for both pintles and alternate with the lugs. At least one of the pintles is non-rotatably connected to the respective lugs or to the leaves. If the second pintle is non-rotatably connected to the leaves, it is pivotable with the leaves between a closed position and a position in whichis it coplanar with the sidewall carrying the first pintle, thereupon with the leaves to a position at right angles to and outwardly adjacent the sidewall, and thereafter to a fully open position which it reaches by pivoting about the axis of the second pintle and relative to the leaves. The sidewall and the door shield the leaves and the pintles in each position of the door.
