  • Patent number: 4819298
Abstract: Self-closing hinge for hanging the free leaf of a two-leaf corner cabinet door on the leaf that is hung on the carcase of the cabinet. The hinge has two members, one associated with each of the door leaves, which can turn by about 90.degree. on hinge pins passing through aligned bores provided in the area of the meeting edges of the door leaves, from the position at approximately right angles to one another when the corner cabinet is closed to a position in which they are aligned substantially parallel to one another when the corner cabinet is open. The hinge members are coupled together by an elongated, strap-like connecting element which is pivotally fastened to the one member and is mounted so as to be longitudinally displaceable on the other member. This strap-like connecting element acts on the one hand as a door stop which prevents the door leaves from turning relative to one another beyond a given angle, and on the other hand it forms part of a self-closing mechanism acting when the door is closed.

  • Patent number: 4727622
Abstract: The hinge is particularly adapted to permit a relatively thick door to be swung open without interference from the surrounding door mounting frame. A pair of arms pivotally connect the door to the frame, with the inner end of one of the arms being mounted on pin means having an axis about which the door rotates. Through the provision of various embodiments of connecting means and guide means, the pin means connecting the inner arm to the body travels in an arcuate, outward path when the door is opened, thereby moving the plane of the entire door outwardly to permit the room necessary to accommodate essentially full opening of the door. The pin means, during its arcuate movement, is guided by various forms of guide means to precisely define the arcuate path of travel.

  • Patent number: 4719665
Abstract: A double pivot hinge for vehicle doors includes a hinge arm pivotally interconnecting door and vehicle mounted hinge butts. A first and second latch means are alternately movable between latched and unlatched positions to either latch the hinge arm to the door mounted hinge butt for movement of the door and hinge arm as a unit to the 90.degree. open position or to latch the hinge arm to the vehicle mounted hinge butt for movement of the door relative to the hinge arm between 90.degree. and 180.degree. open positions. A detent means detents the first latch means in unlatched position during movement of the door between 90.degree. and 180.degree. open positions. The detent means is automatically released as the door moves from the 180.degree. position to a position immediately adjacent the 90.degree. open position to permit uninterrupted closing movement of the door.

  • Patent number: 4685681
Abstract: An array of plate-like elements is retained by endless filaments looped on the elements to form migrating hinges between individual elements and other elements adjoining same. Grooves are formed in the surfaces of each plate, the grooves being in two groups, with the members of each group being mutually parallel, and the grooves of each surface being in overlying registration. The filaments lie within the grooves in a selected pattern, with filaments forming anchor points at plate sides at which the filament wraps around the side of the plate to enter a groove from the other group of grooves on the opposite side of the plate, and hinge points at plate sides where the filament passes from one plate to an abutting plate, proceeding from one surface to the opposite surface in doing so. Manipulation of the resulting array allows two such plates to rotate mutually about an axis defined by hinge points lying on their abutting sides.

The front and rear surfaces of each element are provided with grooves, the grooves being divided in two groups, with grooves of each group running parallel with one another. The filaments lie within the grooves and are not attached to the elements. The filaments are arranged upon the elements so that each filament, upon reaching a lateral side of an element, is led into a groove on the opposite surface of the array. If the lateral side lies at the outmost edge of the array, the grooves are of different direction, while at lateral sides forming a line of contact, the grooves run in the same direction. • Patent number: 4389748
Abstract: A new and novel concealed door hinge is disclosed and includes three pivot points, all of which are hidden when the door is closed. The device includes a substantially right angle interior leaf secured to the cabinet and a cup-like external leaf secured within a recess in the door. A forcing member is pivotally connected to one of the surfaces of the interior leaf and a pivoting member is pivotally connected to another surface of the internal leaf and to the external leaf. In one embodiment of the invention, when closing the door, a cam-like structure within the external leaf moves the forcing member to urge the pivoting member toward the door opening and, consequently, causes the entire hinge assembly to close. In another embodiment of the invention, the pivot point between the forcing member and the interior leaf is slidingly positioned with respect to the interior leaf. This embodiment also includes an axle which interconnects the forcing member and the pivoting member.

  • Patent number: 4369937
Abstract: A latching system for an infrared suppression device, which reduces the iared signature of the exhaust of a gas turbine engine, employs a two-point hinge for supporting and swivelling the IR suppressor and for permitting the IR suppressor to be translated forward and backward a substantial distance in order to complete the latching operation. Guide pins entering guide holes and held in firm engagement therebetween by retractable hooks engaging loops, support the forward end of the suppressor to the aft end of the gas turbine engine while resisting lateral and twisting displacement of the suppressor when it is latched in place.

  • Patent number: 4352222
Abstract: A hinge with a snap-in mechanism is activated by a spring. The spring is housed in a bush-like member pivotally mounted on a hinge axle of the hinge arm. There are two hinge links that connect the hinge arm with the hinge casing. The bush-like member presses on one hinge link when the hinge is in its closed position but rests mainly or completely on the hinge axle of the hinge link when the hinge is in its open position.

  • Patent number: 4351555
Abstract: The present invention relates to a foldable panel for an automotive vehicle in which two plates are interconnected via hinge pins each having two parallel spindles which are respectively rotatably received in cylindrical envelopes formed in reinforcing members fixedly attached to the plates. The arrangement allows the two plates to be folded together in a manner that the upper layer of the panel is always smoothly folded with a single fold without the tendency of multiple folding induced by normal hinges and can be unfolded to a flat bulge free configuration across the line of folding.
