  • Patent number: 5520234
Abstract: An assembly for decorating the top of a window. Generally, the assembly includes a pair of linear members with side panels attached at each end. The side panels have integral mounting posts being received by slots in the linear members. Optionally, the linear members are attached to the side panels with discrete couplings that are received by both the side panels and the linear members. A fabric covering is applied over the assembly and attached to the rear of the assembly by use of glue. Optionally, the fabric covering is attached via a mechanical fastening system located on the rear of the assembly. Mounting brackets are used to secure the window top decorating assembly directly to the wall surrounding the window or, if a window covering unit is in place, to the headrail of the window covering unit.

  • Patent number: 5515901
Abstract: A fascia assembly for folding doors particularly for bifold doors, uses an elongated fascia element spanning the doorway in which the doors are installed, the element being freely suspended by a hinge from a support mounted to the top of the doorway adjacent a track, which guides the door during its folding movement, for swinging movement about an axis parallel to the track so that it may pass above the tops of the doors. The fascia element has sufficient vertical extent to span from the top of the doorway to and beyond the tops of the doors, and is mounted to that side of the doors facing the direction in which they open. As the doors open, the fascia element can swing upwards out of the way of the doors. Conveniently, both the fascia element and the support are elongated elements of constant cross-section and the hinge is formed by interlocking edge portions of these two elements.

  • Patent number: 5505245
Abstract: A foam cornice window treatment which is mountable on a curtain rod assembly including one or more flat, slat-like members. The foam cornice is formed of resilient foam material and includes a front non-planar surface which meets a rear, planar surface. One or more channels are formed on the rear face of the cornice for engagement with the slot(s) of the curtain rod assembly. The cornice includes a pair of rear slots formed on the rear face into which edges of a fabric covering may be tucked. Because of the resiliency of the foam body, the slots will open to receive the fabric edges, but will resiliently spring back to grip the fabric edges and hold them in place. A slot may also be formed on the front face of the cornice so that an intermediate portion of the fabric covering may be tucked thereinto to create a puffy, decorative effect.

  • Patent number: 5152331
Abstract: The no-sew window treatment of the invention comprises a form of semi-soft foam which is covered by fabric through a wrap and tuck process. The form incorporates a straight slit cut into an exterior surface running along its entire length. The form additionally incorporates a cross-shaped slot running through its center, also along its entire length. The fabric employed is wrapped around the form, cut to the length desired, and its ends are then fitted into the straight slit; the sides of the fabric are then tucked into the cross-shaped slot. Because of the semi-soft characteristics of the foam, and the close-fit force exerted on the ends and sides of the fabric, the result is to provide a form which holds the fabric in place--yet, one which is easy to install, cover and assemble (even by the purchaser) and without the need for any sewing to give a customized look.

  • Patent number: 5086822
Abstract: An above-window arch treatment has a series of rectangular slats glued to one another and to a valence so as to form a "peacock's tail". The arch treatment is fabricated by a method which fixes an odd-number of slats about a pivot bolt passing through front and rear valences. The slats are alternated to the right and left of the pivot bolt. The slat most rearward, i.e., immediately adjoining the back valence, is moved perpendicular to the valences. The slats on the right hand side of the perpendicualr slat are sequentially joined to the perpendicular slat and then to each other. Likewise, the slats on the left-hand side of the perpendicular slat are sequentially joined to the perpendicular slat and then to each other unitl the desired arch form is achieved. • Patent number: 4726409
Abstract: An exterior roll-up shutter consists of positioning strips that can be mounted on an outside wall on or next to the reveals and of a housing that rests against the strips. The housing is constituted of side walls, a floor, a rear and front wall, and a ceiling. The housing accommodates the shaft and panels of the shutter itself. It has a shutter exit extending along its floor in alignment with guide channels in the positioning strips. The shutter also consists of the paneled shutter itself, which is accommodated in the housing. To facilitate both installation of an exterior roll-up shutter of the same overall type and replacement of the paneled shutter itself, each positioning strip, which consists of a length of section with a shutter offset that is accessible from inside the window aperture, has an accommodation that extends along the whole strip. The accommodation is accessible from the weather side.

  • Patent number: 4662421
Abstract: A universal valance assembly is disclosed. In one embodiment, the valance assembly is mountable on headrails of inverted channel cross-section, such as is commonly used for hanging vertical blinds. In another embodiment, the valance assembly is mountable on a headrail of channel cross-section, such as is used for hanging horizontal blinds of varying width. In either case, the valance assembly comprises a groover face element for holding decorative material, and groover return elements which are mounted at opposite ends of the groover face elements by means of corners which join the groover elements at substantially right angles. In the case of headrails of inverted channel cross-section, the assembled groover elements, making up the valance assembly, are mounted on the headrail with one or more groover-receiving brackets, provided with rearwardly-extending arms and a clip mounted adjacent a remote end of the rearwardly-extending arm for engaging exterior grooves defined in the walls of the headrail.

  • Patent number: 4520608
Abstract: A structural assembly, more particularly for a shower partition, comprising a sectional rail having, in one of its outer surfaces, an undercut first channel of which the sides form two lateral grooves. Inserted into this channel, is a facing panel, a resilient connecting element being provided for retention and engagement in the grooves. In order to obtain a structural assembly of small depth, together with reliable and rapid attachment, the facing panel is provided with a longitudinal second channel extending in the direction of its longitudinal axis and undercut along the channel sides to form grooves. The connecting element is arranged at least partly in the second groove where it is held by the undercut second grooves. The connecting element has a lateral projection which extends into one of the first grooves of the sectional rail. Projecting into the other groove of the sectional rail is either a shoulder of the facing panel or a second lateral projection of the connecting element.
