Patent number: 6971433Abstract: An automatically extendible and retractable awning includes an awning sheet mounted along one edge to a support structure and at an opposite edge to a roll bar about which it can be selectively wrapped. Each end of the roll bar is supported by a scissors type support structure allowing the awning to be extended and retracted in a simple but effective manner while allowing considerable space for movement of individuals around the awning.Type: GrantFiled: August 20, 2003Date of Patent: December 6, 2005Assignee: Carefree/Scott Fetzer CompanyInventors: Robert Wagner, Garret Mauldin

Patent number: 6276424Abstract: An awning includes a roller assembly having a torsion spring, a canopy connected between a wall the roller assembly, and a pair of “four-bar” arm assemblies supporting opposite ends of the roller assembly. The arm assemblies move the roller assembly between a retracted position and an extended position, where the torsion spring biases the roller assembly toward the retracted position. Each arm assembly includes a vertically extending base arm secured to the wall, a bottom arm having a first end pivotally connected to the base arm, an extended arm having a first end pivotally connected to the bottom arm and a second end supporting the roller assembly, and a top arm having a first end pivotally connected to the base arm and a second end pivotally connected to the extended arm. Each arm assembly also includes a force producing member extending between the base arm and the bottom or top arm to move the arm assembly toward the extended position.Type: GrantFiled: March 7, 2000Date of Patent: August 21, 2001Assignee: White Consolidated Industries, Inc.Inventor: Sydney W. Frey, Jr.

The base arm has a telescoping extension so that the effective length of the base arm is variable.Type: GrantFiled: August 20, 1998Date of Patent: August 1, 2000Assignee: White Consolidated Industries, Inc.Inventor: Sydney W. Patent number: 5259432Abstract: A support frame for a moveable awning having horizontally spaced, cantilevered, extruded tubular frames having curved sections connected to the outer ends thereof and to the upper ends of horizontally spaced vertically extending, extruded tubular uprights. The extruded cantilevered frames, curved sections and extruded uprights all have an elliptical configuration in cross-section which are contiguous. The leading edge of the awning is connected to a trolley assembly having rollers engaging the exterior surfaces of the cantilevered frames, curved sections and uprights. By this construction and arrangement a continuous, smooth track is provided between the roof portion and wall portion to facilitate the extension of the awning and the retraction thereof to the stored position. Each curved section is of one-piece construction made of plastic and bendable when heated to obtain the proper curvature between the sloped cantilevered frames and the uprights.Type: GrantFiled: November 29, 1991Date of Patent: November 9, 1993Assignees: Remo C. Patent number: 4819707Abstract: A slide latch mechanism for use in a retractable awning wherein a rafter arm has one end adapted to slide along a support arm includes a pocket at the upper end of the support arm into which the slide member can be received to temporarily retain the slide member at the upper end of a support arm. The slide member retained in this manner, prevents an inadvertent collapse of the awning.Type: GrantFiled: May 11, 1987Date of Patent: April 11, 1989Assignee: Carefree/Scott Fetzer CompanyInventors: Carl C. Patent number: 4727897Abstract: A stabilizing bracket automatically secures a rolled awning of a recreational vehicle, and automatically releases the awning for its unrolled deployment. The bracket prevents the rolled awning from sagging and rattling against the sidewall of the vehicle during travel. The bracket is comprised of a mounting base pivotably interconnected to an extension arm and mounting head. A trough-like holding panel of circular cylindric contour is positioned atop the mounting head and adapted to receive the rolled awning.Type: GrantFiled: November 12, 1986Date of Patent: March 1, 1988Inventor: Randolph T. Watts

Patent number: 4724882Abstract: An adjustable awning structure which can be assembled for use or disassembled for shipping and storage has two sides. The size of one or both sides of the canvas can be adjusted. The supporting angle of one or both sides of the canavas can also be adjusted. After being disassembled, the whole structure can be reduced to a small bundle for shipping and storage. The awning finds particular use for a user who travels quite often. Moreover, since the structure has a considerable supporting strength, the size of the canvas can be suitably varied, if necessary.Type: GrantFiled: October 27, 1986Date of Patent: February 16, 1988Inventor: Jeng-Horng Wang
